Aegon Championships - Queens 10-16 June Yay!

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 08:19:58

This is the official thread for the Queens tennis unless someone has already set one up in which case this can fade into oblivion

This is the first tournament of the grass court season grin. Today we can expect 4 times Queens champion Leyton Hewitt as well as a couple of Brits playing. Andy Murray, who is the top seed, has a bye into round 2. We also have Tsonga playing in both the singles and doubles (with Mahut).

And we're back on the beeb so no annoying ad breaks jumping in and disturbing our tennis watching drooling over the players at change of ends So only 5 hours to go until it's starts grin

Mama1980 Mon 10-Jun-13 09:05:33

Marking my place smile

LadyClariceCannockMonty Mon 10-Jun-13 10:32:09

Marking place! A bit busy this week to watch much, but I'm there (and here) in spirit smile

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 10:34:19

I've just realised we are away this weekend so there will need to be some serious negotiation if I am going to be able to stay in the holiday cottage to watch the final whilst everyone else goes out for the day I guess it will depend on whether Murray makes the final.

Chubfuddler Mon 10-Jun-13 10:53:29

Marking place.

Come on Andy!

Raahh Mon 10-Jun-13 11:07:38

Hoping I get to watch, but first day back at school and dd1 has been sent home illsad.

Hewitt and Dimitrov both due to play today. Think this may be Hewitt's last year on tour- I do like Hewitt, and he has been such a worthy champion at Queens.

And I know it's been Aegon for a while, but I still think of it as the Stella Artois tournament!grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies Mon 10-Jun-13 11:09:20

Yay!

Queens is such a lovely tournament, and yes Raahh I will always think of it as the Stella Artois! I'm always surprised when everything is blue instead of red smile

Raahh Mon 10-Jun-13 11:28:25

Ali- exactly! all wrong. Just like seeing Wimbledon decorated all pinky/purple at the Olympicsgrin

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 11:51:14

Has Hewitt had any decent results in the last couple of years? It feels like he should probably have retired gracefully a couple of years ago.

Chubfuddler Mon 10-Jun-13 11:53:03

He's only 31 - I googled him last night I thought he was much older. I suppose he was very young when he had his glory days.

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 11:53:41

Raahh what is it with your sickly family trying to prevent you watching the tennis? You know what, I think they are just attention seekers missing your company smile

I hope your daughter feels better soon so you can get back to watching the tennis

Raahh Mon 10-Jun-13 12:09:17

Witt I KNOW!!! grin

Poor DD1, she is very rarely ill at all, and is devastated because it was the first day of football club today, and she had new boots and everythingsad
She's fast asleep, bless her. sadly, dd2 is not

Hewitt was very young when he first appeared, and I loved him because he was very Agassi-like- a baseliner who still managed to play well on grass. I know he had hip injurys/surgery, he just seemed to not quite live up to his early stuff.
But yes- he does seem to have been around forever!

janey223 Mon 10-Jun-13 12:22:37

worst week of the year around here can't bloody move and can't even get into the pub

Chubfuddler Mon 10-Jun-13 12:25:50

No one is going to feel sorry for you if you live in Kensington.

IreneR Mon 10-Jun-13 13:19:21

Fed fan that I am, I'll be following the action in Halle, so thanks for this thread. It will allow me to keep up with Queens in a very enjoyable way.

(very funny about Kensington, Chubfuddler.)

marjproops Mon 10-Jun-13 17:01:29

always wanted to go there but can never find out how to/where to/how much tickets and stuff.

soooooo good to see the grass courts again. and yy still stella artois to me too. even bought a small bottle of it to -hic-shelebrate grin.

well done Dan Evans, comisos to Wardy he had it in the bag and did a wawrinka at the end hmm.
looking forward to Lleyton, yes he HAS been around forever. feel sorry hes had so many injuries. but agree maybe he should do a Roddick and call it a day and go out on a not so high.

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 17:05:35

Another one to whom it is Stella Artois.

There seems to be lots of slipping today. It's a shame Ward lost just now when he was in a winning position twice.

I'm rooting for Russell in this match - I've never warmed to Hewitt.

Chubfuddler Mon 10-Jun-13 17:13:50

I went to this on a corporate jolly back before the recession. It was ace we drank so much champagne.

marjproops Mon 10-Jun-13 19:31:25

Andy doesnt play till wednesday, he has a bye.

not ever sure what to think of that, wouldnt he need to get as much pre-GS parctice in as he can? same with the other top players.

must admit i was never really a fan but i miss Andy Roddick! he was good last year and his post match interview about liking the Wurzels was hilarious!

LadyBeagleEyes Mon 10-Jun-13 19:44:33

I hope Andy has recovered from his injury. Not a time to be going into Wimbledon, especially with Rafa back and on form.

noddyholder Mon 10-Jun-13 19:46:39

I was surprised to switch tv on and see this today! I thought I had had my tennis fix with The French Now this I will get nothing done this month

MultumInParvo Mon 10-Jun-13 19:48:40

My DH was there today. He is now prostrate on the sofa snoring.

TheDoctrineOfAllan Mon 10-Jun-13 19:57:30

Yay! Queens!

Witt Mon 10-Jun-13 20:51:32

noddyholder We are being spoilt with tennis at the moment.

I can't understand why they give some players byes instead of inviting a couple of extra wildcards to play.

Chubfuddler Mon 10-Jun-13 21:23:14

I suppose they want to guarantee some of the big names will be there and get through, making the event attractive to the corporate sponsors and hospitality sorts, especially as nadal and federer have snubbed queens for Halle I didn't get all this from google oh no.

noddyholder Tue 11-Jun-13 11:59:48

AH bloody rain

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 13:43:43

Well, after ending up being sent by the gp to A and E yesterday afternoon, as Dd1 has a bad kidney infection, I am finally able to watch some tennisgrin Maybe.

Chubfuddler Tue 11-Jun-13 14:27:27

Poor dd.

Has play resumed?

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 14:39:01

I'm not sure- they are showing Dmitrov/Sela,and the new golden boy looks like he's about to lose (if it's livegrin)

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 14:41:48

(which it isn't)-annoyingly, there is no indication onscreen that it's a replay. hmm
it's no good missing a day

FarleyD Tue 11-Jun-13 15:21:01

Poor lad, I'm sure he hit himself on his head with his racquet, not on the ground. That Dimitrov looks like dd's boyfriend!

FarleyD Tue 11-Jun-13 15:25:52

I'm talking about Bedene. Commentators are not listening to me - keep speculating how he's hurt his head.

FarleyD Tue 11-Jun-13 15:32:45

Oh rain again.

marjproops Tue 11-Jun-13 18:27:52

shriekapoves quiet when Watchching tennis!

ooh, Delpotro AND Cilic! strawberries and cream!! will eat them both!

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 18:42:19

I like Del Potro- he was very unlucky at the Olympics against Federer. He is soooo tall though!

marjproops Tue 11-Jun-13 18:56:29

Im having very unpure thoughts atm about biting his bum!! especially when hes on THIS side of the tv screen and bending over grin.

cant believe hes so young tho, i thought he was in his at least late 20's.

marjproops Tue 11-Jun-13 18:57:52

but the best bum action (sorry to lower the tone hmm), and im not THAT way inclined had to be Zina Garrison, when she was receiving serve and her bum used to do that little wiggle jsut before she hit the ball!

Chubfuddler Tue 11-Jun-13 19:03:44

Is it a bit sad that I like the way the queens coverage is hidden on the red button? It is isnt it. It's like a secret channel.

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 19:09:32

grin @ secret channel.

Has it gone off now? confused

Chubfuddler Tue 11-Jun-13 19:19:59

No unless I'm watching highlights and haven't realised. It's entirely possible.

marjproops Tue 11-Jun-13 19:21:54

oh bless, that was sporting of Malisse being so concerned when Delpo fell.

had a scare then, hope Del hasnt damaged his wist.

there there, Ill kiss it better!!

Raahh Tue 11-Jun-13 19:26:35

it vanished off my red button- and now it's come backconfusedgrin

marjproops Tue 11-Jun-13 19:29:45

i love the red button during Wimbly, they show the legends matches...well, the legends and pat cash grin.

even if Murrays in the final or whatever ill watch Bahrami/Leconte and the rest.

Chubfuddler Tue 11-Jun-13 20:23:02

I'm watching the Paul bettany Wimbeldon film for the nth time

Alibabaandthe40nappies Tue 11-Jun-13 21:00:28

I haven't managed to watch a single shot yet. Must try harder tomorrow! grin

Chub I love that film

Chubfuddler Tue 11-Jun-13 21:05:17

We're on the final. I love Paul bettany. I think he should be married to me. Just the small issue of Jennifer Connolly.

FarleyD Tue 11-Jun-13 21:38:42

Ds3 misread Del Potro as "Del Potato", made me giggle, and henceforth, that shall be his name. Glad he won.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Wed 12-Jun-13 10:19:47

Oi, Chub, hands off Bettany! I've loved him long time. I've watched all his films, including the dross like the Da Vinci Code and Wimbledon, and the Iron Man films even though only his voice is in them grin.

Chubfuddler Wed 12-Jun-13 11:03:30

Wimbledon isn't dross! Well it is obviously but it's quality dross, I would say the best of the Richard Curtis love-affair-with-upper-middle-class-England type rom coms (I admit the competition is not stiff).

LadyClariceCannockMonty Wed 12-Jun-13 11:15:29

Sorry chub but you're wrong grin. I don't like the Richard Curtis production-line films much, but I would have to admit that they're of a better quality than Wimbledon.

None of them have a scene of Bettany in a steam room, though, obviously, so even though they're better they're not as popular with me. grin

FarleyD Wed 12-Jun-13 11:43:55

Morning all, anyone watching Hewitt and Dimitrov? I know I said this yesterday, but Dimitrov looks a lot like Dd's boyfriend. Not sure who I want to win this match. Not a big Hewitt fan, but can't deny he's good. On other hand, so is Dimitrov.

FarleyD Wed 12-Jun-13 12:10:28

Ok, now that Dimitrov is losing I've decided I want him to win.

FarleyD Wed 12-Jun-13 12:18:53

Oh dear. Down and out.

FarleyD Wed 12-Jun-13 12:28:18

That poor ball girl, think it's very unfair for the camera to focus on her for so long. She's probably going to be reallly embarrassed about the whole Dimitrov thing in a couple of years and there'll be all that footage of her looking heartbroken!

Raahh Wed 12-Jun-13 13:05:06

humph.

Only just got in,and have missed the Hewitt/Dimitrov match.

Hewitt really does seem to like Queensgrin - shame about Dimitrov, hopefully he'll have a good run at Wimbledon.
Berdych isn't messing about, then.grin

Raahh Wed 12-Jun-13 14:40:00

Bet Mahut is hoping he can repeat last year- iirc he beat Murray at Queens, in the same round.
Still not able to watch today.sad

Witt Wed 12-Jun-13 15:11:29

How come I get home just in time for a rain break! Typical. Any exciting matches this morning?

FarleyD Wed 12-Jun-13 15:23:00

Not really Witt, Hewitt dispatched Dimitrov in two sets, and only saw first set of Berdych/guy whose name I can't remember, but Berdych won it 6-1.

Witt Wed 12-Jun-13 15:44:29

I don't feel so bad for going out this morning then smile I wish this rain would hurry up and disappear or that they would replay some decent tennis rather than have this chat between Sue Barker and Andrew Castle and someone.

DevlinMaccabee Wed 12-Jun-13 17:15:00

Got excited and settled down for a bit of Murray and then possibly Tsonga and then the bloody rain came again - typical!

gailforce1 Wed 12-Jun-13 17:16:59

No live tennis so looking at the lovely weather we had in 2008! Does anyone else watch these replays or do you just go away and do something else until the live tennis starts again?

DevlinMaccabee Wed 12-Jun-13 17:23:52

Am liking watching a younger Rafa though....

marjproops Wed 12-Jun-13 17:47:04

every time theres a rain break they seem to show the Delpo/malisse match over and over again.

on BBC AND eurosport.

worse than when winbledon show yet again the macenroe/borg match over and over again!

purpleprincess Wed 12-Jun-13 17:53:24

Yes def enjoying younger Rafa..... Those arms wink think 2008 may have been the first year I errrr 'noticed' him IYKWIM. however now he wears slightly different shorts you can see his legs bit more not that I'm looking

Witt Thu 13-Jun-13 08:42:37

Is the tennis starting any earlier today because of all the rain yesterday? Although looking out of the window we may be lucky if we get any play today sad

Raahh Thu 13-Jun-13 14:02:03

The rain appears to have moved northsad

Been out, so hope to see a bit of the Del Potro match before the school run.

Chubfuddler Thu 13-Jun-13 14:11:26

Go Andy!

FarleyD Thu 13-Jun-13 14:51:41

Hi. Dan Evans being somewhat outplayed by Del Potato.

FarleyD Thu 13-Jun-13 15:07:36

All over for Dan sad. Do like El Potato though.

Chubfuddler Thu 13-Jun-13 18:11:24

Anyone watching the second Murray match? It's on the red button. 4-1 up in second set

Witt Thu 13-Jun-13 18:25:31

Just watched the last game. Looked like a confident win.

marjproops Thu 13-Jun-13 18:32:33

well done hewitt. looking good. well done double whammy andy.

tsonga....eventually!!

Chubfuddler Thu 13-Jun-13 18:41:23

Murray very confident. Fingers crossed doesn't appear to be in any discomfort at all. He's become considerably more beefcake in the last couple of years hasn't he?

Ahem.

So who is left - murray, tsonga, Hewitt, and who else?

FarleyD Fri 14-Jun-13 15:14:50

Anyone watching?

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 15:44:53

just got in from a rain sodden school run- looks like Del Potro has had a fightback grin

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 15:48:43

But Hewitt can still produce some lovely stuff.

Hope we get to see Tsonga before any rain comes ( thoughit looks quite nice down there).

FarleyD Fri 14-Jun-13 15:56:20

Is it raining with you Raahh? We have sun here. Del Potato has become my new favourite, I've decided he reminds me of dh (although considerably younger)

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 16:21:12

It is raining cats and dogs here in sunny South Manchestergrin

I like Del Potato, but I've always had a soft spot for Hewitt. He may even have a chance against Cilic.

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 16:26:07

yay! Go Lleyton! and his gorgeous little boy!

Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 17:53:14

Did Hewitt win? Queens has always been his natural territory for some reason.

Pull your finger put andy.

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 18:03:39

He did, he played well. Looked tiny next to Del Potato.

Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 18:07:17

Oh brilliant. How are they coming at the draw, is murray facing a Hewitt semi?

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 18:09:09

Hewitt/Murray would meet in the final. but Tsonga is going to beat Murray in the semi grin

Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 18:10:49

No he's not. I love tsonga but nope.

marjproops Fri 14-Jun-13 18:11:21

Oh how cute is Lleytons little boy? out there on the practice court with his tennis racquet.

LOVE Delpo but well done Hewitt that was impressive play.

and well done Cilic (yummy too!) like Berdych but hes turning into another 'rafa' toucher...should call him Berd-itch! whats with the willy pulling?

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 18:11:29
Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 18:11:40

Oh come on andy. Shut him down.

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 18:12:38

I'm definitely team Tsongagrin

trixymalixy Fri 14-Jun-13 18:12:39

Go Andy!!!!

Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 18:13:08

Brill. Semi tomorrow.

Chubfuddler Fri 14-Jun-13 18:23:22

Ooh tsonga. He is yum.

Raahh Fri 14-Jun-13 19:22:17

I really like Tsonga- however I hate the silly dance he doesgrin

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 13:33:15

It's raining sad but its quite nice up here-- temperamental British weather-- smile

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 16:19:06

grrr- the weather is annoying. At this rate, neither match will get finished.sad

Mama1980 Sat 15-Jun-13 16:34:17

Agree that tsonga is yummy grin
Rain is getting very annoying now....

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 16:57:22

Anyway, well done to Federer for getting to the Halle final.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 17:34:39

I don't think there's going to be any tennis today

sad

marjproops Sat 15-Jun-13 17:37:43

if theres any they should put both on at same time on centre and number one courts.

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 18:00:23

hmm

seems they are doing that, marj- but why should Murray/Tsonga get to play on centre, when surely Cilic/Hewitt started there?

DevlinMaccabee Sat 15-Jun-13 18:04:06

It does seem a bit unfair that Hewitt and Cilic have been moved but I'm just glad that I get to watch some tennis tonight!

marjproops Sat 15-Jun-13 18:05:44

have they started again? gaaaah! DCs watching the awful DAnis house and i cant change it yet. (she doesnt own the tv rights but shes autistic and me changing it now would set off a meltdown!)

Thats not fair if Hewiit and cilic have been changed, as you said Raahh, 1- they started match there and 2-Cilic is defending champ so he should have first dibs anyway!!

but any tennis better than no tennis and the 4 obv want to get these semis over and done with

marjproops Sat 15-Jun-13 18:07:51

are they showing both matches? one on the red button at least, or have they gone murray mad?

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 18:15:28

They are showing the Tsonga match only, I think. Yep-as defending champion, Cilic should be shown some respect, surely?

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 18:17:06

I'm not a Murray fan, but I do like to see glimpses of Lendl. grin

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 18:33:30

Cilic might be online?

Come on andy!

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 18:44:38

Sort it out andy.

Ooh yum tsonga with shirt off

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 18:44:44

ooh, Tsonga is stripping<shallow>

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 18:44:58

grin

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 19:11:26

Well this could be going a lot better couldn't it?

How's Hewitt?

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 19:12:12

This isn't good at all

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 19:18:30

Has Ivan llendl had bad Botox? His face never moves.

Ashoething Sat 15-Jun-13 19:19:18

Andy will not win Wimbledon this year.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 19:26:18

WTF I do not want to watch brazil play football. I don't give a fuck about football.

Raahh Sat 15-Jun-13 19:56:42

Cilic has won.

Am verysad about Tsonga.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 19:59:12

Sorry. Am delighted.

marjproops Sat 15-Jun-13 20:00:50

all 4 deserved to be in the final. all played well.

but looking forward to Murray and Cilic.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 20:01:40

This should be andy's final on past form.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 20:02:41

Of course tsonga played well. Very very well considering the disparity in rankings, he gave murray a really hard time. But I am really pleased.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 16:24:40

Missed most of this due to father's day stuff. Listened to bits on the radio. Good fight back by Cilic-Murray definitely rattled.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 17:02:54

And congratulations to Federer, Halle champion.

Startail Sun 16-Jun-13 17:10:51

Good to hear Feds is in form.

envy Queens have shadows

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 17:19:30

oh flip.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 17:20:13

oh well, at least the crowd will get a 3 setter in the sunshine.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 17:21:18

Samuel L Jackson - I love him.

Startail Sun 16-Jun-13 18:13:32

Well done Murry!
I can shout for you today, if you are playing Fed or Rafa it may be a different matter, sorry.

thistlelicker Sun 16-Jun-13 18:14:36

Go Murray! Can't wait for Wimbledon !

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:16:06

well done Andy. comiz Marin, love you, you're gorgeous!

oh bless murray, hes made me cry yet again being so emotional about Ross Hutchins!

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:16:56

was funny tho when they showed the bit when he fell and he said about the 'groin' and the camera went to Kim!!! grin

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:20:16

Really looking forward to Wimbledon- can't believe it's been nearly a year.

Murraylover Sun 16-Jun-13 18:25:13

Bojo's up next...on the tennis bbc1

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:30:21

I love Lendl. Such a fab player.

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:32:47

Lendls brilliant isnt he? hes so droll. he reminds me of the comic Rich Hall, all droll face yet hilarious!

this next match is gonna be good! bringing a laugh and a lump to my throat at the same time.

Oh Lendl, you should be on the stage grin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:34:55

the Chzecks (sp) against the Brits! this should be a treat.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:36:02

Oh, Rich hall is my absolute favourite comedian- his documentaries about films are genius, and very funny.

With 5 daughters,I bet Lendl needs a great sense of humour.grin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:43:33

Lendls on fire!

Tims sounding like Ferrer with that mic on so loud!!

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:43:46

Is Judy tweeting?grin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:44:01

Ooh, Berdychs looking yummy today grin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:44:46

its Andy sounding like Ferrer! thought it was Tim.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:48:36

ooh-Judy, that was rudegrin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 18:51:51

Ross Hutchins should be sitting courtside with Judy and the rest! blessim.

what a lovely thing of these guys to do for him and all those with the illness.

yep, think I may add Berdych to my ''list''. grin

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 18:56:58

grin @ that body shot!

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 19:37:04

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 19:37:44

hope Branson does a good donation too, he can afford it!!!! im sure he has.

Not sure he is, castle the twat was just joking apparently

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 19:39:45

twat indeed. Now Andy will feel he HAS to give something now!

but Ross is his best friend so im sure he will anyway.

Bet Andy does gift it. Probably without fanfare too.

LetUsPrey Sun 16-Jun-13 19:40:26

I think the LTA are giving £10 for every ace served during the tournament.

Eddie's playing again grin <shallow>

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:40:59

Castle is a twat twit.

pmsl @Jimmy in his Federer shirt.(not a Jimmy Carr fan really, but he does a fair amount for charidee).

mirren3 Sun 16-Jun-13 19:47:00

Think we should donate if Andrew castle shuts up! Totally ruining this.

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:48:17

I loathe Andrew Castle- shit player, shitter presenter.

Me too, ever since he did that chicken dance on scd. Twat!

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:50:12

Andrew Castle, we have concluded is a twat

grin

marjproops Sun 16-Jun-13 19:52:11

another not-fan of Castle. limelight grabbing twat. always about him.

agree about the chicken dance and the grumpiness on that programme about when they where in the icy land thing!

Go Ross and ANdy!!!!

Raahh Sun 16-Jun-13 19:52:15

Go Ross!!

LetUsPrey Sun 16-Jun-13 19:52:22

LetUsPrey Sun 16-Jun-13 19:53:19

oh well done Baltacha, shes won the title at Nottingham, jsut read on eurosport news.

LetUsPrey Sun 16-Jun-13 22:56:34

Andy Murray has apparently donated his prize money to the Rally Against Cancer fund. What a star! smile

FarleyD Sun 16-Jun-13 22:57:41

Enjoyed all tennis today, esp as I have my biggest boy home again! Love Lendl - so funny when they asked him what Andy's chances at Wimbledon were, and he replied "None, he may not even get there" (or words to that effect)!

And with you all on the Andrew Castle thing, wish someone had confiscated his microphone.

See you all a week tomorrow smile

FarleyD Sun 16-Jun-13 22:58:33

Has he LetUs? That is brill.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Mon 17-Jun-13 09:38:16

Hi all. Saw bugger all of the tennis due to a combo of work and the bad weather sad

V pleased for Andy!

Is there any coverage online of the charity match, does anyone know? I can't see it on iPlayer. Eddie Redmayne, eh? Was he any good?

marjproops Mon 17-Jun-13 09:50:17

Eddie Redmayne LOOKED good. thats all Ill say grin.

i dont know about the charity match online but try the eurosport website, they may have something? they were showing it too.

if you do get it be aware of the twattiness of ndrew Castle, as you can see from these posts!!!

LadyClariceCannockMonty Mon 17-Jun-13 09:53:25

Thanks marjproops!

Believe me, I'm well aware of what a prize fuckface Andrew Castle is ... <<tennis-watching veteran>>. Unfortunately he gets everywhere. You just have to put up with him by turning the sound down

marjproops Mon 17-Jun-13 12:03:57

yea, from day 1 hes been one!

Witt Tue 18-Jun-13 16:28:17

I've been away without wifi at the weekend and I missed this thread.

Have we got an Eastbourne one going yet?

Raahh Tue 18-Jun-13 16:58:29

not sure if there is an Eastbourne one.
Laura has won her match though.

DD1 has rebelled and taken over the tv remote nowgrin

marjproops Tue 18-Jun-13 19:10:35

how come ANdy got glory for Queens yet Baltacha won title at Nottingham and barely made the news?

Witt Wed 19-Jun-13 08:19:02

marjproops The same reason there is a half-naked Andy on the cover of most magazines this week - because the media are bigging up putting too much pressure on our perceived only chance at a wimbledon title. I'd love Heather or Laura to win the women's before Andy wins the men's.

Witt Wed 19-Jun-13 16:33:05

Since when is on court coaching allowed in tournaments?

marjproops Wed 19-Jun-13 17:19:38

witt its allowed in some tournaments, such as the davies cup and fed cup.

Witt Thu 20-Jun-13 07:57:12

I knew it was allowed in Davis Cup, just surprised to see it happening on the main circuit.

marjproops Thu 20-Jun-13 18:05:07

skysports 2 tonight 7pm ATP tour uncovered theyll be highlighting the chaaity match at Queens last week!

Raahh Thu 20-Jun-13 18:50:04

Did anyone see this on the BBC sports website. Yet more evidence (as if it were neededgrin) of the fact Andrew Castle is indeed, a twat.

apology to David Lloyd

marjproops Thu 20-Jun-13 19:06:48

do i dare???????

a question. they were talking today that theres not much hope for the next player coming up after Murray...Ward/Evans and the like.

but kids cant afford to play/compete (oh go away castle-ATP tour uncovered on in background!)/afford all the stuff, and the LTA just seem to put more (pat) cash grin into facilities and ticket prices yet the players cant get anywhere...

all these people moaning theres no one follwing Andy yet they cant asfford it. why dont they help more?

marjproops Thu 20-Jun-13 19:21:46

ooh, how gorgeous is Marin Cilic? gets more gorj by the day!!!

magimedi Fri 21-Jun-13 08:42:33

We have been given a pair of tickets to watch the semi finals at Eastbourne today!!

I am SO excited!!!!

Raahh Fri 21-Jun-13 09:01:49

magi- enjoy, hope the weather stays dry!

For years I used to go to a pre-Wimbledon tournament in Didsbury, saw loads of players there-Edberg won a couple of times, and was where Sampras won his first grass tourny- Sadly, it no longer takes place. Used to be one of the highlights of my year!

magimedi Fri 21-Jun-13 21:00:39

It was great & there was only about 5 mins of rain. Bloody freezing, however.

Very 'intimate' court - you are so close to the players - it was just fab.

Roll on Monday & wimbledon - will only be seeing that on TV however.

FarleyD Fri 21-Jun-13 21:20:36

Glad you enjoyed magi, who did you see? My friend went to The Boodles yesterday, she said it was fab. Have registered interest on-line for next year!

magimedi Fri 21-Jun-13 22:45:40

I saw:

Jamie Hampton win over Wozniaki

Vesnina win over Wickmayer

Lopez beat Dodig

Siomon beat Seppi.

The Hamton/Wozniaki match was great - very up & down & three great sets.

Raahh Sun 23-Jun-13 18:43:13

I am very excited about another excuse to sit on my bum for a fortnight Wimbledon.

I will dust off my Wimby namechange asap.grin

testing
grin

Argh! I've just remembered I've agreed to work extra days over the next two weeks. My only day off is Friday but weeks.

Both weeks! Rookie mistake!

nooooo- rubbish! The end of the first week does throw up some good stuff, though- and weather permitting the following Friday should be mens semi final day.

Need to stock up onAldi Pimmsgrin

GameSetAndMatch Sun 23-Jun-13 19:18:00

Okay I'm ready too with a namechange!

We need a brand new thread. Exclusively for the big W. Who's going to start it?

And weekends, I'm not that keen at work!!
