First semi final about to start on BBC3.

sensesworkingovertime Tue 14-May-13 20:10:45

Love the name, thought I was more of a Sweep fan myself....seriously.....Eurovision.......are you kidding me? I just love it! My DH is even worse and will be glued to the semi finals now, mostly for the scantily clad dolly birds!

T'was obviously better in the old days when GB had at least some chance of winning, all this political voting has gone OTT.

I have absolutely loved Jedward's last two attempts rather than GBs thought I have to say. When I think of all the soppy tripe that has won for Ireland, esp in the 80's and Jedward don't get a look in, scandalous!

Can't wait to see which dummies are hosting either, that's one of the most entertaining bits. Roll on Saturday evening..........

ILikeToClean Tue 14-May-13 20:21:39

We love it too, it's so bad it's great! Will be sitting as a family on Saturday night with wine (obviously me and DH, not DDs!) and junk to eat as is now the family tradition on Eurovision night - we all select a country to support too - can't wait!!

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:22:52

My DH says thanks he had forgot it was on

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:24:17

I'm watching through my fingers from behind the sofa grin.

I haven't even heard the Irish song. Does anyone know when it is on?

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:24:41

I rather liked the choir boys at the start - they should win, imo.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:24:57

I just remembered it's the semi's! Will record it to watch later (Dh will watch the main event, but anything else is pushing it!)grin

I'm watching, I haven't missed a eurovision in 25 years. Me and the kids are having our annual eurovision party on saturday night while dh has his annual COD night upstairs out of the way not loving any of the semi final songs so far.

Irish song is on 13th, unlucky for some.

ceramicunicorn Tue 14-May-13 20:26:35

Aww one of the Croatian chaps is teeny tiny. You need height to pull off that amount of embroidery.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:27:41

This one looks like Shakira.

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:28:09

Been sent here after posting in the wrong place blush

OP here

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:28:14

That was a bit "four tenors"-ish hmm

This is a bit TOTP circa 1970, with slightly better hair.

ceramicunicorn Tue 14-May-13 20:29:14

That Dane playing the whistle is rather lovely.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:29:40

Sorry Bogey, I just hate it when there are two threads, as I can't cope with flipping from thread to thread.

And anyway, this is in the right place [slight ocd emoticon]

<avoids the wrath of Trills>

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:29:42

i'm now watching on the laptop.

We weren't going to bother with it this year- going on a Star trek meet up Saturday, supposedly.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:30:27

RTE have managed to get an ad break in hmm

I will flip to BBC3.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:31:58

watch it on Eurovision TV, MAryZ

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:32:45

sad no Grannies this year.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:33:38

The grannies were brilliant last year

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:34:51

They were. Great British bake off, meets Russian grannies. With Singing. This one is a bit meh. Sorry, Russia.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:35:31

It's interesting that these are mostly in English, with non-national singers.

I don't think we stretch to Eurovision TV here, clara.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:35:46

(I really wasn't going to watch it yet- knew I'd get sucked in)grin

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:36:28

Lots of power ballads, or is that just me?

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:36:29

I loved the grannies too!

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:36:53

Not too impressed with that one.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:37:18

have you gone to There is link there.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:37:23

Another power ballad?

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:37:40

A giant!!

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:37:47

Right, C&P'd my OP as you lazy buggers wont read it grin

"Just seen the Semi's are on tonight and the info says "with Uk representative Bonnie makes Joan Rivers look like a natural beauty Tyler"

I thought we got automatic inclusion in the final because we are one of the founding countries that pays the most money to take part, so why is she there? Or have the rules changed?

I am normally excited to a very childish extent by Eurovision but I lost interest as soon as they wheel out BT this year!"

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:37:58

I'm blaming DH he's the Eurovision addict

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:38:43

Nice focus on her crotch are.

Camera work is a bit crap?

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:39:29

Not sure- maybe they have changed the rules because we keep sending shit acts to keep us on our toes!

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:39:30

I thought they also sang the automatic qualifiers as well?

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:40:54

<ignores Bogey, just to annoy her>

Is Bonnie Tyler better or worse than old Humperdinky, or the toad for that matter? The UK seems to have a never-ending supply of aged has-beens, whereas Ireland has a never-ending supply of young hopefuls who actually want to do well, poor things sad.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:41:03

I don't ever remember seeing the automatic qualifiers before Clara. Could be wrong though

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:41:20

We do get automatic inclusion, all the acts are there for the week before the final to do soundchecks, rehersals and interviews. Our song is crap this year again should fit right in judging by the rest of the songs so far. The giant was cool though, he should have done the song.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:42:35

Dustin the Turkey

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:42:35

Toad = Andrew Lloyd-Weber, obvs.

All women this year. Rather like a poor American Idol heat.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:42:35

Anything is better than Humperdink Maryz grin

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:42:46

Netherlands have a bit of a dirge.

Birds falling from the rooftops out of the sky like raindrops?

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:43:20

Missy- I'd have voted for the singing Giant.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:43:22

It makes me a tad stabby. And I haven't had any wine to dull the pain.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:43:44

This one is boring me

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:44:12

<props open eyes with matchsticks>

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:44:24

If i was hit by raining birds, it wouldn't be singing.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:44:57

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:44:58

Fucking Englebert ....... who the effing jeff is in charge of choosing the crap we send? Atleast when we chose them by the voting system and we sent crap, we knew it was because 90% of the voters were taking the piss and so was testament to our sense of humour!

WOOHOO finally a song worthy of the eurovision grin the giant should join the spacemen.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:46:16

True Bogey

Well at least this is different hmm

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:46:16

I think Englebert went down well with all the radio 2 listeners. Bonnie, too, probably.

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:46:23

What in the name of buggery fuck is that?! Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong on acid?! grin

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:46:30

Right, this is a new low. It rivals Jedward and The Turkey shock

Though the girl can sing.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:46:53

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:47:21

They lost their way should be at the Star Trek convention Rahhh wink

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:47:40

i miss the 'Song for Eurovision' programmes.

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 20:48:08

Praise the mute button. Essential for this dirge

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:48:09

Sorry for the swearing, long day with stroppy kids and I wasnt allowed to swear at them!

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:48:48

grin ohme

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:49:05

magna- grin

I keep sniggering at Scott Mills' comments.

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:49:42

That sounds really 80's!

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:50:31

I've got running commentary from DH <mutes DH>

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 20:50:33

Like the love child of Gary Numan and Phil Oakey!

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:50:36

This is dreadful.

'because of my shoes'????

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 20:50:52

He is in love with me because of his shoes?

Did he just say 'because of my shoes I'm wearing today, one is called love the other is spain' confused

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:52:00

I've put the subtitles on for this...

He names his shoes.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:52:32

think it's 'pain' @Missy

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:53:22

Pain Missy though Spain is better grin

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:53:32

Oh dear.

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 20:53:48

Shakira meets strictly

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 20:53:53

Thank God. I am here. You are here. Belarus is here. Sounding the same as ever.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:54:13

Ana Matronic (sp) commented it was a definite 'English as a second language' song. grin

Ahhh just heard that thanks Raahh makes more sense, but I'm a bit gutted it wasn't spain, would have been more random, like the rest of the song.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 20:55:07

Can I swear on this thread?

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:55:28

Dh is going to be home from work soon...I may have to tear myself awaygrin

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:55:47

For fuck's sake LineRunner, of course you fucking can.

It's the fucking Eurovision, innit?

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 20:56:31

Now, without the subtitles, I thought she was singing 'sombrero' hmm

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:56:47

ds1 has just come in, the fecker. Why does he choose tonight to want to watch the tv?

I might have to move to watching online. But then I can't post at the same time [technophobe emoticon]

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:58:16

open a second tab and keep switching.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 20:58:17

Thank you, Maryz. It is simply the case that this is, as ever, so bad it's bloody amazing. With these Eurovision heats, you are spoiling us.

Ooh, a song in A Minor with a key change.

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 20:58:37

Open explorer twice and reduce sizeof windows using button next to cross in top right of window. Click and drag on blue bar at top of window to place next to each other. Ignore if on a mac

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:58:54

or tell him to piss off to the pub/allotment/ wherever he just came from. smile

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 20:59:04

More misery.

So we have miserable ballads, giants, spacemen, dirges, more miserable ballads, lots of over-dressed women, one rather under-dressed woman, and a couple of token men.

Par for the course, really.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 20:59:11

God yes Maryz, two tabs woman.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 20:59:38

Is it me or are there a lot of white clad male dancers this years?

Magna Tue 14-May-13 20:59:41

Tell him its stuck on bbc3 Maryz

Nice dress

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 21:00:01

She is a human volcano is her head going to blow off?

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:00:15

Ta for technical advice.

I'll try it as soon as Ireland is over. But the Eurovision site wants me to download something which is bothering me.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:00:26

and the almost obligatory key change into wailing section.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:00:40

it's fine.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:00:49

Ireland is next.

<slides down chair and hides eyes>

Wasn't she one of the dancers from Moldova last year? Didn't they do that funny trumpet song with the weird dancing? Looks like her anyway.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:01:06

Ireland!! My lovely horse!

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:01:13

Bloody hell, it's a Kerrygold ad shock

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:02:16

Half-naked bodhran players shock

Lots of pretend leather and even more pretend tattoos. And shouting.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:02:19

This isn't about a horse at all.

NotTreadingGrapes Tue 14-May-13 21:02:29

Can I join with the votes from the Italian jury? Though it is only on some random satellite channel here.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 21:03:05

the Moldova one was brilliant.

This bloke looks like a Brother Beyond reject.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:03:24

This is a strange homage to Enrique Iglesias.

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:03:40

Line, my lovely horse was Father Ted's Eurovision entry. It looks better and better every year.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:04:20

Grapes, hello!

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:04:22

Turned on when Moldova was on.

Is it bad that I loved it and am now totally loving Ireland? Great drumming action boys.

NotTreadingGrapes Tue 14-May-13 21:05:47

Yer Irish man had a touch if the di caprios about him.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:06:29

So is it Molodva to win, then? It was quite bold, to be fair.

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 21:07:15

Bored now. Bring back Hard Rock Hallelujah!

NotTreadingGrapes Tue 14-May-13 21:07:25

Is it very bad that the 1978 pink Russian bridesmaid has been my favourite?

hugoagogo Tue 14-May-13 21:10:58

dh say's he will vote for Cypress hmm

I just switched on. My relatives will murder me, Eurovision is a religion in Sweden hmm

I liked Cyprus a lot!

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:12:56

This is a bit rock challenge.

frogwatcher42 Tue 14-May-13 21:13:44

Wheres Terry W. I thought he always did Eurovision?

Maryz Tue 14-May-13 21:13:52

This is weird

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:14:20

terry stopped about 4 years ago I think?

ohmeohmyforgotlogin Tue 14-May-13 21:14:26

Those dancers are scaring me

i think the dancers are dancing to something else here.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:15:03

What happened to pop? this is dance shite.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 21:15:12

Is it just me but there doesn't seem to be any that are stand out good yet confused

The Serbian costumes! hmm

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:17:33

were six year olds involved in the design of these costumes?

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:17:49

HAve you all got subtitles on? It translates the song lyrics.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 21:18:31

Clara just what I was thinking. DH reckon Looby Loo was involved

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 21:18:39

Graham Norton now does the main one doesnt he? I love him, he is even more caustic than Tezza, although I have to admit that it isnt the same.

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:18:51

Apparently, she's not sure if she should 'try out everything with him'.

Bogeyface Tue 14-May-13 21:19:22

"Try out everything"? And it isnt even bumsex night!

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:19:59

All you need to vote, is money.

Magna Tue 14-May-13 21:20:06

grin Bogey

I liked Estonia and Denmark smile

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:23:22

Croatia is the only "different" act that catches me.

Not quite the grannies, but what can you do?

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:25:42

I still like that bloke who sang My Runaway Bride 13 years ago. Has it won yet?

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:26:35

My top three:

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:26:53

Yay - Bonnie!

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:37:24

Resulty thing now?

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:51:03

I'm listening to some previous years entries.

Fly on the wings of love from Denmark 2000? Anyone remember it?

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:52:08

That was the same year as Runaway Bride!

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 21:53:25

I can't see that song in the playlist? Who sang it?

Yama Tue 14-May-13 21:57:43

Gutted Cyrpus didn't make it.

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 21:59:32

Clara, It was Latvia. I think it was properly called 'My Dream' maybe.

ClaraOswald Tue 14-May-13 22:07:25

ah, thanks LineRunner

LineRunner Tue 14-May-13 22:10:53

Have you found it? I love it.

Raahh Tue 14-May-13 22:59:17

I missed the second hour of this- so need to watch it tomorrow to see if any of the acts that followed were as bizarre as the Spacemen. And the Moldovan woman with the hair. But that's because I loved their bonkers entry last year- the one about the trumpetgrin

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 15-May-13 05:59:29

Had to go to bed before results....

Moldova still has yet to beat the granny in the rocking chair from about 5 years ago. That will never be surpassed in sheer Eurovision Eurovision-ness.

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 15-May-13 06:00:22

Cyprus woman sounded really off key to me, but I liked it because I like the songs better when they are in Foreign.

But who will Greece vote for now? Might Bonnie get a vote?

LineRunner Wed 15-May-13 14:04:16

I haven't really taken to Bonnie's song yet.

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 15-May-13 14:06:58

I haven't even heard it! But I had a Bonnie hairdo in 1986.

LineRunner Wed 15-May-13 14:16:49

I was still trying to perfect a Siouxsie Sioux.

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 15-May-13 14:24:16

I did a natty double denim look as well.

See! I am a human Eurovision song contest. Just need to knock a few teeth out and I'm there.

LineRunner Wed 15-May-13 20:07:29

My favourite Eurovison look is still Abba's, especially Agnetha's little cap.

Also do you remember Clodagh Rogers? I was a teeny tiny kid but I remember my older sister going on about the sparkly hotpants.

ilovesooty Wed 15-May-13 22:32:51

Oh yes: pink sparkly hotpants.

According to the betting you've already seen the winner - Denmark are already odds on and getting shorter by the day. Second favourites are Norway who will doubtless get shorter once they qualify tomorrow night.

mathanxiety Thu 16-May-13 04:46:01
badtasteyoni Thu 16-May-13 10:59:47

Am so glad I found this thread - was starting to feel like the only person (other than DH & DC) who gives a shiny shite smile

Dh went out shopping last night for our Eurovision party food - he's doing swedish meatballs, Cypriot Haloumi skewers, Italian pizza, Greek Salad, German Black Forest Cake, and Belgian Chocs to nibble - and wine from as many European countries as he can find grin

My job is to make the Union Jack bunting smile

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 19:49:36

OMG math that outfit is amazing ... and her hair doesn't move at all - laquered into submission, bless her.

badtaste nice menu. smile

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 19:54:15

Is it sad that I remember that from the first time around shock

I was 9, and it was the height of glamour. And my hair wouldn't do that, even when I got my awful '70s perm.

But look at the background - no spacemen, strobe lights, naked men, nothing at all apart from the invisible orchestra and a few immobile singers. It was a proper competition of songs then [nostalgic]

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 19:56:50

That's a great idea badtaste - I might go to Lidl and see what exotic food I can find.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 19:57:16

It's on next!!

Magna Thu 16-May-13 19:59:39

Evening back again for the Semifinals

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:01:41

Just watching the end of LEs Mis and I will be with you tears running down my cheeks

There'd better be some humour early on

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:01:53

Oh this intro act is especially hideous and boring.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:02:59

Why will they never understand that no-one wants art and culture - just get on with the sparkly sceaming shit.

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:03:17

Doubt I'll see more than a few songs of this semi, but I'll try.

I want a Eurovision party. sad May have to settle for a virtual one.

I feel like I've turned on to a low budget Olympic opening ceremonyhmm

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:04:58

Or Sweden's Got Talent?

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:05:07

I thought the human orchestra was ok but now I'm bored

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:05:28

Here's Frockella.

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:06:09

What is she wearing?

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:07:02

I think she is wearing the drapes from the Swedish National Opera House.

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:07:50

She's missing the front of the dress. Reminds me of the dolls you had over loo rolls

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:07:51

Line- you could be right. She may have had a 'Sound of music' need a frock pronto panic.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:07:58

You could definitely stage a very small version of Don Giovanne under her knees.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:09:02

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:09:12

We have sparkles!

We have a Latvian Jedward.

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:09:39

Bless them.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:09:53

Ha ha - I just said 'My God, Latvian Jedward' to dh.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:09:59

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:10:00

It's Jedward - but these can sing grin

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:10:02

A sequinned 90s rapper?

Not cool.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:10:38

I like it.

This is a Jedward nightmare hmm

Am I the only one thinking they should have let him hit the crowd when he fell into the crowd?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:11:49

Ok, weirder and even less coordinated than Jedward [arf]

We'll remember the words, though.

Shoułd say ^^ was a joke, and I think they're quite nice. Not the music, but he general enthusiasm!

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:12:43

I knew I wouldn't get to see much. But that was a good start.grin

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:13:15

So what have I miised?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:13:27

Is anyone watching BBC3? Who is the woman commentator - she seems to have a knack for stating the stupid obvious hmm

I like San Marino. Very good! Beautiful singing. And a beautiful song.

Raahh Thu 16-May-13 20:13:42

What's withthe ball? Is she an Ood?

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:14:00

This is a country of three people and they all keep having to take turns singing in the EV semi-finals.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:14:08

I need subtitles - is she pretending to be pregnant?

Yes Maryz I mean, she made a weird, strangled imitation of Petra Mede and laughed at her accent. Funny hmm

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:14:59

Yes, I'm on BBC3 - stupid Scott Mills and That Woman Commentator.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:15:14

Or is she serenading a lightbulb? Or the moon?

I quite like the song. And the outfit - very dignified, iyswim.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:15:43

Cracking singer.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:15:54

If she fell off a building, her dress is a parachute. a sparkly red parachute

Ooh, Macedonia sound good!

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:17:36

Is this tonights eye-candy?

In fact, Macedonia WAS my favourite.

That's a lot of red for a woman to wear. A really amazing singer though!

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:17:58

Now that's a sparkly red parachute.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:18:24

Oh dear. I prefer him on his own [shallow]

A man wearing a suit...

And a woman dressed as a tomato hmm

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:18:44

HE's quite easy on the eyes,

I was liking the song until the solidly built lady began warbling

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:18:52

Get your subtitles on.

Oh, he's a bit good, isn't he? He's singing about being together ...with her.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:20:05

Yes, red is in this year.

On Saturday I will have the tv and the ipad. And I can watch, have subtitles on and see the thread. That way I have half a chance of knowing what the fuck is going on.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:20:50

How do you get subtitles? I love Eurovision. Am not loving Ana Matrionic commentary though.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:20:52

I don't like these commentators.

Or the texter-in-ers hmm

I don't like BBC3.

Am I the only one thinking his hair is a bit messy? It sticks up where it SHOULD but also where it shouldn't.

And what if he topples off by accident?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:22:11

x-posted turkey - is she on bbc3?

This guy likes himself quite a lot.

The cube is confusing me.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:22:14

Didn't he do well (channelling Bruce Forsyth).

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:22:15

There's someone in the glass cube thing. :S

That man is caged and seems to look at the singer with pure hatred confused

coffeeinbed Thu 16-May-13 20:22:53

Another red dress.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:23:18

More red. Bloody hell.

Red again.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:23:42

Turkeyboots - your remote control should be able to put subtitles on.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:23:44

another lady in red in the background. This one forgot to untuck her skirt at the front.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:23:52

She is the BBC three female voice Maryz.

What's with the box?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:24:14

I think the man in the box should win.

Since this is no longer a "song" contest, but rather a "how weird can you get on stage" contest.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:25:07

Thanks turkey - I really don't like her. She is trying to be funny, but just coming across sarcy, I think.

She's a bit demanding! I've seen her a minute and she's proposing hmm

coffeeinbed Thu 16-May-13 20:25:26

red, come back
all is forgiven...
WTF is she wearing?

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:25:28

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:25:38

'I'm your slave and you're my master.' Jesus Christ.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:25:58

nope the "waitresses" have red aprons

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:26:10

Bring back Lordi Finland.

Luminous pink knickers and kneewarmers and a wedding dress. What a fashion hilt. Not.

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:26:16

No comment on this one shock

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:26:31

This reminds me of that marry me song by Taylor Swift, is it? The marry me bit.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:26:31

They have fallen somewhat since Hard Rock Hallelujah haven't they?

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:26:48

Don't like this. Put her in the box!

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:26:52

Rocky horror anyone?

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:27:55

Well, that was an unexpected ending!

Girly screams. I have enough from dd2.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:28:20

I quite liked it blush.

I must be about 9.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:28:36

Or is this song a post modern mirror to the expectations of women in this so called modern era?

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:28:55

"We were very fond of your eyebrows" WTAF?

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:29:04

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:29:31

Oh, no, I meant the Romeo and Juliet song by Taylor Swift. It does have a "marry me" line.

I really don't like this woman. I might watch on RTE on Saturday - or is it Graham Norton on BBC1?

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:30:02

Graham Norton.

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:30:05

Graham on Saturday

It makes me think of Love Story (Romeo/Juliet) Maryz which was a scary enough song. And princessy. Although I prefer it to her songs filled with angst and hatred for whoever she just left (Harry Styles?).

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:30:55

She is dreadful isn't she. Prefer Scott Mills.

XPOST. Sorry.

What a way to send women to the 1800s hmm that Finnish song.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:32:01

She is dreadful beyond dreadful whoever she is, that commentator.

Ooh, this song is interesting. Jeremy. Risk assessments. IT. Not.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:32:26

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:32:37

Can't get subtitles to work, but no problem with Malta! This is sweet.

This is actually a good singer.

If I could vote, I'd vote for Malta. Beautiful and amazing!

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:33:04

I'm personally quite rocking to the risk assessment groove.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:33:09

This is cute.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:33:57

Although I'm not convinced about his trousers fitting all that well.

Magna Thu 16-May-13 20:34:14

Like this though DH wants to know when Frankie Detori started singing

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:34:21

Exactly Herring. dd lurves her hmm

This guy loves himself. I'm reluctantly liking the song though.

A bit stalker ish. Time to follow her tomorrow? Seriously?

He's great though smile

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:34:59

Though it's Malta. No-one will vote for them sad

Bulgarian bagpipes.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:35:55

The UK always gives Malta a George Cross pwan.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:36:02

I think this is a weaker bunch than Tuesday night.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:36:24

I thought he was wresting a sheep!

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:36:35

Has that guy got a poo in his pants?

I do t like this, t the actual music is very good, the drumming and he gaida are good.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:37:12

Does all of Europe have some sort of bagpipe as a trad musical instrument? This is rather daft. He has dreadful hair.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:37:50

Yes sooty, I don't rate the songs much tonight. Most of Tuesdays I could have happily listened to, if I had to. These are a bit strange. This one in particular hmm

Red again. Bad day for DH (colourblind). Did they have one colour dye to share between all the countries or what?

coffeeinbed Thu 16-May-13 20:38:06

light sabres!

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:38:27

These guys are singing about the wild ones, the happy ones and that all the village will come.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:38:58

Those overhead shots of the arena are amazing. The red ones are great, but the blue ones are really lovely.

They are doing it well as a "show".

Yay, Iceland! (We are maybe going to move their, hence excitement.)

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:39:44

Ooh Icelandic man is doing it for me. Mmmm.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:39:58

Goody, a viking. I have a soft spot for vikings, being a Dubliner and all grin

ceramicunicorn Thu 16-May-13 20:40:39

Grr I had an argument with dh and stormed out of the sitting room so now I can't watch it. I can't go back in as this would suggest I'm sorry when I'm bloody not.

My experience of Eurovision shall now be through this thread.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:41:11

This is lovely. How does he make such an ugly language sound so beautiful.

This is my favourite so far. It won't win, obviously.

I love Icelandic and I love this song.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:41:35

ceramic, give in, this guys lovely.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:41:52

DH is clapping along, but says it is dull. Relculantly agreeing with him.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:42:06

Do you have no access to BBC3, ceramic?

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:42:12

I think Iceland will get through.

I have life, I have life.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:42:21

Very Eurovision melody. Complete with octave change.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:42:41

You know, it's just occurred to me, getting straight to the final may not actually be an advantage for the likes of the UK and France. I think these advance nights get people into the mood quite well.

ceramicunicorn Thu 16-May-13 20:42:42

I don't think I can get it on my phone

Greece. Ah. Did I see them wearing kilts?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:43:31

I'm watching it on an app called FilmOn, on an ipad, if that's any use.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:43:45

Men in kilts [hopeful]

Ooh. Cheerful start to Greece. Is this a version of the Russian grannies?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:44:16

And [arf] at the title.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:44:36

Ooh Greek Ska. I'm liking this!

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:44:46

This song is all I hate about Eurovision, tbh.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:44:58

quite fun.

I Love Thos Song.

Alcohol, alcohol, alcohol is free.

[happy sigh]

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:45:15

It's fiddler on the roof.

They are quit easy on the eye, whatever about the ear.

This, not Thos.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:45:26

'Alex had one too many'.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:45:44

But LineRunner, isn't it all we love to hate grin

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:46:05

By the way, I'm just throwing in random lyrics which tickle my fancy.

I think the message is: we are doomed living in Greece. So lets get really drunk.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:47:00

alcohol is free is definitely featuring in those lyrics.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:47:04

Linerunner - that was dh's favourite so far.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:47:05

Yama thanks for translation. I miss the odd translations. Sniff.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:47:13

Alcohol, shouty, men in kilts and the can-can. What more could you want?

Good start to Israel.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:49:15

Odd dress, though. It looks a bit like a wetsuit with a mermaid tail. And a visible zip. What is it about visible zips - they are like visible bra straps <channels my mother>

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:49:21

I am mesmerised by her dress.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:49:54

She's not about to flash us is she? Hope she's well taped into that dress!

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:50:23

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:50:29

some big hair in the background

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:50:30

Only for him I forget the cold.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:50:37

I'm a bit worried she's going to fall out of the front of that dress.

I like Armenia.

Is this a world peace song or what!?

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:52:42

Get off they are mine

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:52:59

That is a lot of denim on the stage.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:53:06

It's a bit 80's meets Pirates of the caribbean?

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:53:14

Bit of early 90s soft euro rock here. Like his scarf.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:53:31

He should have gone to the loo before getting on stage as well.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:53:39

Who are these? U2, Oasis, any-other-random-rock-band?

I quite like it though <shows age>

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:54:21

Yay - a guitar solo!

I am singing to this one.

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 20:54:32

Oo he's really giving it feeling for Armenia <zzz>

Hello everybody! Just found thread. Huzzah.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:54:35

They are lovely.

Armenia: 'We can stop it!'
Me: Please. Now.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:54:56

Yama, is that what you call double denim? Or quadruple denim, perhaps.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:55:01

My internet connection broke up for a sec.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:55:50

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 20:56:34

What is this?

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:56:34

Did you know she was raised by wolves? She is the one for me.

coffeeinbed Thu 16-May-13 20:56:59

like them a lot

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:57:03

Those glasses don't do it for me.

Or the hat. Or the tight trousers.

Now, the guitarist I like.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 20:57:09

So far, a bit bland for me.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 20:57:33

Maryz, I'm going to channel Masterchef here but I believe that was denim three ways.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:58:01

ceramicunicorn, have you given in yet?

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 20:58:29

I like this

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 20:58:33

Yeah thought this one might go somewhere with his earnest breathy shuffle but hasn't delivered.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:59:02

They had professional Masterchef on RTE earlier tonight, and every one of them did either three sauces, or the meat three ways. I laughed. dh didn't get the joke at all.

I've left the room. I'm returning to EV in ten minutes. This is the only place I can get my EV fix. Please?

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 20:59:51

Ah. The second favourite coming up.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:01:00

I didn't realise daenerys Targyren was Norgwegian?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:01:07

The BBC3 woman likes this one (Norway), so I won't.

For Herring: it looks like a 1970's nightclub, with a woman in a white trousersuit with shoulderpads and diamante bits. Only it isn't a trouser suit, it's a split dress.

She can sing. I just don't like it much.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:01:25

This is a bit blah.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:01:41

Is this second favourite? Who's favourite?

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:02:05

Like this a lot.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:02:27

Denmark is fave.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 21:02:44

Denmark: by a country mile, and odds getting shorter all the time.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:03:15

Ad break time.

mathanxiety Thu 16-May-13 21:03:23

I love Albania this year - they sound a bit like Planxty in patches. When I saw the Swiss entry on youtube I thought one particular line should be 'we're together in a car'... (to rhyme to with '....too far')

A lawyer and a singer is in Albania! Another throaty song.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:06:39

Not ad break, turkey. wine fill up time grin

Would anyone like a nicely chilled glass of Chilean Sauvignon?

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:06:42

He's very creepy, but enjoying this so far.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:07:18

Hair Wars.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:07:26

This is a bit too throaty. And his hair is stuck in his glasses, which isn't a sexy look, imo.

I want a guitar which shoots sparks!

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:08:21

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:09:13

I miss wine. Have stupid virus and gone off it. Wine for final though!

Firey! Knock off of Ruslana tho.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:09:22

Just listening it was ok. Visually not the greatest

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:09:25

We're back in the '70s now, aren't we? Shouting, head-banging, guitars with fireworks, and (it sounds like) scary lyrics.

It will do well, though.

YoniTime Thu 16-May-13 21:09:31

Loved Norway's!
Didn't understand the lyrics though, they seemed dark but she kept smiling and looking joyful.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:09:53

until then

TheBookofRuth Thu 16-May-13 21:09:56

His guitar ejaculates sparks!

Can't help but feel for all the Albanians sitting at home thinking, fuck, that's my lawyer.

DD2 is interrupting EV by playing 22 loudly on her phone. Apart from that, Georgia sound great!

RedToothBrush Thu 16-May-13 21:11:08

guitar. fire.

we have a winner.

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 21:11:24

Yes to wine Maryz! thanks

I love Georgia actually. Beautiful song, beautiful words, beautiful sound.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 21:12:00

I'd be surprised if Georgia don't go through.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:12:02

I like this. She is very pretty.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:12:24

This is pleasant.

Pleasant won't win, though, will it?

It needs to be spectacular - either spectacularly good or spectacularly awful.

And a rather nicer wedding dress grin

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:12:30

I am really enjoying this one.

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 21:13:32

Oh i like that one.

I was frightened of guitar fire man.

Hello BTW smile

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 21:13:42

Thought dress weddingy too. Was a bit like midway through a musical type song.

Am I the only one feeling hungry at the video thing?

Interesting start to Switzerland, the woman is good.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:14:16

chocolate and snow = Switzerland

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 21:14:21

That Swiss chap is 95, I believe.

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 21:14:42

Good Lord that man is old.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:14:57

The elderly gent seems a bit bemused

I like Switzerland a lot.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:15:31

I like this.

TheBookofRuth Thu 16-May-13 21:15:44

Oh no, he doesn't seem to know why he's there! Please let him go home and have a sit down!

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 21:16:07

She looks a little like Kirsten Dunst.

YoniTime Thu 16-May-13 21:16:11

Exactly! :/

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:16:20

He's obviously playing, though, which is impressive for 95.

scrummummy Thu 16-May-13 21:16:40

Wtf are they doing to the old Swiss guy? He looks lost.

YoniTime Thu 16-May-13 21:16:49

What TheBookofRuth said.

ilovesooty Thu 16-May-13 21:17:39

This should be...interesting.

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:17:53

I liked the one on the end. The gorgeous one.

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 21:18:23

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 21:18:25

This one looks like a Skylander.

RedToothBrush Thu 16-May-13 21:18:28

Ming the Merciless!

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:18:31

Wow- they have Ming the Merciless representing them!

YoniTime Thu 16-May-13 21:18:33

Fabulous Dracula has arrived.

scrummummy Thu 16-May-13 21:18:35

Who designed his jacket? But at least opera is different!

TheBookofRuth Thu 16-May-13 21:18:37

It's a sparkly Romanian opera singing vampire!!

Crazy costume for a singer from Romania. A make Cruella De Ville.

I like his, er, very high notes.

Male, not make.

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 21:19:21

It looks like a placenta.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:19:21

More Romanian vampires. Didn't they do something similar before?

I like Switzerland best so far. And one other, but I can't remember which. It's just as well I don't vote.

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 21:19:39

OOh Dubstep.

YoniTime Thu 16-May-13 21:19:40

I like his opera singing. It's different.

Yama Thu 16-May-13 21:19:48

Is this what you'd call a mash up?

TheBookofRuth Thu 16-May-13 21:19:59

Yoni - he is fabulous isn't he? grin

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:20:02

Are they naked?

<peers at small screen>

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:20:48

It's the original It's my Life !

LineRunner Thu 16-May-13 21:20:56

I don't know what to say.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:21:03

More red parachutes grin

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:21:34

I know, Line. I'm pretty speechless myself. dh missed it.

sisteroutlaw Thu 16-May-13 21:21:42

Nagoo. Placenta! grin

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:21:54

Huh? I went to re settle DD and came back to sparkly opera man! Liked what I heard though.

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:22:09

I'm a bit stunned at that one.

turkeyboots Thu 16-May-13 21:24:18

First ground was much stronger wasn't it. Liked almost all of them. Recap time!

ClaraOswald Thu 16-May-13 21:24:46

I loved Malta.

You know the man in the box one, ages ago? The man SHOULD have made bunny ears and loser signs in the box to the singer man.
