It will take a lot for anything to fill my 10pm Tuesday slot recently vacated by the following - but this is looking promising so far.

Anyone else?

DevlinMaccabee Tue 07-May-13 23:05:55

I've recorded it and will watch tomorrow, so will let you know what I think.

womma Tue 07-May-13 23:20:55

I just saw it, it seemed good. I'm going to stick with it. I'm just pleased a read a write up of it in the paper this weekend which explained about it being set pre-Manhunter.
Fingers crossed it turns out to be worth sticking with.

feckawwf Tue 07-May-13 23:29:04

I soooo wanted to love this! But really wasn't impressed hmm gutted!

Stila Wed 08-May-13 00:09:53

I watched one yesterday on catch up … which threw me seeing as it started tonight. Anyhow it didn't grip me , I reached for a magazine after about 10 mins and needless to say I didn't have a clue by the time it finished.

Blondeshavemorefun Wed 08-May-13 14:14:19

On sky planner

Not sure when will manage to watch as going on holiday at the weekend and have tons to watch so have an emptish planner for me to record more stuff

So different views if good or not .....

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sat 11-May-13 13:54:28

Great actors and definite creepy David Lynch "Blue Velvet" feel at times - should work but not entirely convinced?

mumofthemonsters808 Sat 11-May-13 14:11:18

I'm not sure if I liked it or not, I can't help but think I've seem this type of thing before, I will stick with it though. I'm missing the Following I can not wait for the next season. I also watched Banshee but it was a bit too raunchy and violent for me and generally ridiculous but my OH really liked it.

NadiaWadia Tue 14-May-13 18:48:16

The first one seemed not bad, so I will give it a go for a bit longer. Did anyone else find Mads thingy hard to understand? He needs to stop mumbling and enunciate! (or am I turning into a deaf old woman?)

Yet another show about murder though. Why are there so many? Must be something unhealthy in our collective psyches.

RhondaJean Tue 14-May-13 22:39:27

Yes about the mumbling!

I have to put the subtitles on when that Mads fella comes on! I think he has really funny shaped lips or something.

Oblomov Wed 15-May-13 22:00:00

Loving it.

Vagndidit Thu 16-May-13 20:37:37

I love it! The first episode took a couple viewings for me to "get" it, but since the 2nd episode I've been sucked in.

Once you actually put out of your mind any Anthony Hopkins versions of Lecter, it becomes far more enjoyable.

Blondeshavemorefun Fri 24-May-13 17:21:05

Finally watched 1st episode

I really enjoyed / now to watch 2 and think 3

I really quite liking it. (Although a bit hmm at Will Graham being portrayed as autistic).

Have a few to catch up on but there is no word on whether it will be renewed for a 2nd season. All other US shows have had their news except this one.

SpanishFly Fri 24-May-13 17:43:46

Is he autistic? I've missed something, then.
I have to say, I'm loving the programme

In the pilot episode he is asked 'Where do you fall on the spectrum?" He replies,"My horse is hitched to a post that is closer to Aspergers and Autistics'.

The books don't mention anything.

SpanishFly Fri 24-May-13 21:34:52

Ah so he did, I'd forgotten that!

dontsqueezetheteabag Mon 27-May-13 16:24:48

I have watched the first 8 episodes (streaming on the computer). Sooooooo good!!!!

Keep watching It's great.

I am actually starting to have a bit of a thing for Dr Lector and kind of want invited to one of his dinner parties.... the food looks amazing!

BenFranklinGates Sun 02-Jun-13 21:08:24

Mads Mikkelsen is Danish, he was the villain in Casino Royale...yes I have a monster crush on him which really annoys DH grin
Thoroughly enjoying the series but I wish they would hurry up and set fire to Freddie Lounds already.

dalek Mon 03-Jun-13 09:09:10

Watched the first two - they don't give the Lecter character enough to do - have deleted the next 2 and series link from planner

Blondeshavemorefun Mon 03-Jun-13 10:52:21

I'm still enjoying - weird not being sir Hopkins but good

I go a bit drooly over Mads Mikkelsen...much to DP's annoyance I TRY not to be obvious grin

I actually really like it!

Wickedgirl Mon 24-Jun-13 16:45:23

I've only watched the first 2 as I am finding it rather dull. Please tell me it gets better

Blondeshavemorefun Tue 25-Jun-13 11:09:40

Still watching

Do kinda enjoy it - want to see lector caught

Mamf74 Thu 27-Jun-13 20:54:54

I'm liking this more than I thought I would, and now don't want Hannibal to get found out smile.

It just makes me feel so bloody hungry though, which I'm sure is a bit wrong!

I'm actually really enjoying this. I've had to suspend certain things in my head though because I'm a MASSIVE fan of all the books (read them a million times) and they have taken quite a lot of creative license with certain aspects and characters and there are quite big differences in the backgrounds mentioned in Red Dragon.

However, if you just take it at face value as a different imagining of the same universe then I think it's really good. Great actors and Graham is perfectly cast.

These are going to be dim questions, but it was Hannibal who killed that young man but Abigail thinks she did it and blotted it out, wasn't it?

Is Hannibal responsible for any other murders, apart from the female FBI agent? I assume so, because those are human organs, aren't they? Or is it meant to be unclear?

I also now can't remember whether her body was discovered or not. If not, why doesn't anybody appear to be looking for her? Maybe they have been and I wasn't paying attention. There were a few episodes where I was only half watching and I'm a bit confused now.

The stag sculpture seems a bit of a giveaway, but Will hasn't noticed it. Am I reading too much into it?

I don't fancy Mads Mikkelson but I think I should because he's got all the right things going for him. I like his clothes and I'm jealous of his kitchen.

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 04-Jul-13 15:08:22

yes hannibal killed the male friend, but blames abigail for it or makes her think she did it

limitedperiodonly Thu 04-Jul-13 15:16:20

Thanks. I know it probably seemed obvious blush

I love this series! Mads Mikkelsen makes an awesome Lector, although I'm slightly disturbed by having the horn for Hannibal! At least I'm not the only one... grin
I find the Will Graham "this is my design" spiel a bit cringey though!

Willemdefoeismine Thu 04-Jul-13 15:19:26

I sort of like it - it's an acquired taste (excuse the pun!)....it's rather gruesome though....

Mads Mikkelsen is kind of horribly beguiling.....

limitedperiodonly Thu 04-Jul-13 15:26:16

It definitely adds something that he's fanciable. Was he physically attractive in the books? I haven't read them.

Willemdefoeismine Thu 04-Jul-13 16:34:49

I don't seem to ever 100% pay attention when it's on....does Hannibal have some type of involvement in every episode's murders?

Sorry can't help with the books - after reading American Psycho I vowed to stay away from that type of fiction (there's no metaphorical cushion to hide behind with a book!)....

limitedperiodonly Thu 04-Jul-13 16:49:16

does Hannibal have some type of involvement in every episode's murders?

That's what I want to know.

Can I have a go on Willem Defoe when you're not using him?

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 04-Jul-13 17:06:39

I don't get will's gift of seeing into how the killer did each murder

And yes think each time lector kills someone and then eats them

He always seem to be eating

Willemdefoeismine Thu 04-Jul-13 19:08:04

ha! Limitedperiodonly grin!

Loved the episode a couple of weeks ago where he held a lavish dinner party and said it wasn't suitable for vegetarians.....Yuck! You might think that one of his dinner guests might think the meat tastes unlike anything they've ever eaten before.....

limitedperiodonly Thu 04-Jul-13 19:33:24

I don't know.

Human meat is supposed to taste like pork or longpigs. But if you thought it was a bit dodgy you'd probably be far too polite to say if it was a muscle meat.

People are miles more squeamish about offal. I wouldn't be, but people are and I remember Americans asking in Italy: 'Is this organ meat?'

It was. grin

Hannibal wasn't described as physically attractive - Hopkins is the closest in terms of the book's physical description in my opinion (slightly balding, slicked back hair etc). He is however VERY charming in the books.

I'm still to completely catch up, I've just watched the one with Eddie Izzard in it.

Anyone who hasn't read the books SHOULD read them...they're awesome.

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 25-Jul-13 20:44:57

Just catching up - last episode next week

But who was the woman with the severed arm re attached who got burnt ?

onedev Mon 29-Jul-13 18:59:55

I've stuck with this series & think its fab - I was a bit bored the first couple of episodes but it just got better & better! I must admit I can't watch the full episode though as I'm too squeamish grin

Never read the books, so sounds like I'll need to give them a try.

Thingymajigs Mon 29-Jul-13 19:16:36

I've really enjoyed this series but have to blot out the odd background noises and ignore the fact that Will Graham's ability verges on magic.
I'm not easily shocked but often feel grossed out by some of the murders. Hopefully the last episode clears a few things up but I doubt it somehow.

Blondeshavemorefun Mon 29-Jul-13 20:02:40

anyone know who the burnt woman with the attached arm was?

CloudBursting Mon 29-Jul-13 22:07:04

Bloneshavemorefun - It was Georgia the girl from last week who murdered her best friend as her illness made her unable to see faces.
It looks like she is another Hannibal victim, as it seems she was getting better and as a result might remember that Hannibal killed Will's Dr (the one who was covering up Wills physical illness on the suggestion of Hannibal). At least I think that's what happened!
Have to admit an obsession with Mads and just watched Royal Affair where he was lovely.

Blondeshavemorefun Tue 30-Jul-13 15:43:18

thanks cloud - think its the last one tonight, so will watch tomorrow as working tonight x

valiumredhead Tue 30-Jul-13 15:59:00

Dh and I love this! Last one tonightsad

AaDB Tue 30-Jul-13 18:04:32

I love this too. Can't wait for the last one tonight.

bakingaddict Tue 30-Jul-13 18:27:06

I've been really enjoying this series...I think Mads is a better fit as Hannibal than Anthony Hopkins. Yes, Anthony Hopkins did a great job in Silence of the Lambs but for me he never quite captured the charming, charismatic, urban spohisticate nature of Hannibal that I get from the books, Hopkins made him just a bit too menacing and creepy to truly believe him as an accomplished host and entertainer.

Agree that Mads mumbled in the beginning of the series but would still like to see him in any big film remake of the Hannibal books

AaDB Tue 30-Jul-13 19:18:15

Whilst I don't fancy this Hannibal, I do think he is charming and attractive. I also think he is more like I imagine him from the book (which I love too)

I've just read the synopsis and I cannot wait. is there a second series?

CloudBursting Tue 30-Jul-13 21:31:38

There is going to be a second series, though it was close to being cancelled at one point.
I have really enjoyed this series, it seems to be beautifully shot and all the actors are excellent. It does seem ironic though, that its allowed to be immensely gory but no nudity was allowed.

Blondeshavemorefun Fri 02-Aug-13 13:38:21

wonder when 2nd series is on-have marked it on sky miss thing
