Series 2 starts again tonight, I quite enjoyed the first lot so will probably tune in.

Anyone else?

I'm trying to remember how it was all left before, hope they do a 'previously' and don't just jump straight in.

BOEUF Tue 19-Mar-13 18:53:56

Ooh great, thanks for the reminder. I enjoyed it last time. Will it continue the same story, or will it be a new syndicate situation?

cocolepew Tue 19-Mar-13 18:54:03

Its a different group of people this time.

MrsJREwing Tue 19-Mar-13 18:57:05

I will be watching.

QueenOfCats Tue 19-Mar-13 19:00:24

I've been waiting for this to come on!

Loved the first series smile

SashaSashays Tue 19-Mar-13 19:10:40

Tats good, new story lines instead of trying to remember the old ones.

It clashes with 16 kids and counting sad will have to record and watch at 10:00

foxrivereight Tue 19-Mar-13 21:32:18

Who's the blonde that knocked the door and shouted that they had won ? I can't place her but know I've seen her in something before !

BOEUF Tue 19-Mar-13 21:44:52

This is brilliant grin. Love the stalking scene in the cafe.

foxrivereight Tue 19-Mar-13 21:50:16

I'm really getting into it ! I never watched the first one wish I had now !

BOEUF Tue 19-Mar-13 21:58:35

The acting is so good.

greencolorpack Tue 19-Mar-13 22:01:36

Loved this! It's a bit gritty BAFTA, a bit "cast of the Full Monty" but it was excellent. What are the chances I will remember to watch next Friday??

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 19-Mar-13 22:04:15

I love The Syndicate - had to tape it as was still at work

cocolepew Tue 19-Mar-13 22:08:08

That was great!

magentastardust Tue 19-Mar-13 22:44:26

Loved it that Denise from series 1 was in it!

Bakingnovice Tue 19-Mar-13 22:46:22

It was good. They drafted in the entire cast of fat friends apart from James corden.

BOEUF Tue 19-Mar-13 22:52:27

Did Kaye Mellor write this one again?

Horsemad Tue 19-Mar-13 23:07:31

Really enjoyed it!

SashaSashays Wed 20-Mar-13 00:52:53

Foxriver, the blonde was in The Bill for a while I think.

I quite enjoyed it. It wasn't as good as I hoped.

youfhearted Wed 20-Mar-13 09:40:00

no, it was a bit annoying. and what would you do if the first member who chose most of the numbers backed out, wouldn't you at least give something.
and the horrible husband of the nurse really upset me.

Horsemad Wed 20-Mar-13 10:15:19

Ah but youf, money does funny things to people!

GeorgiePorgiePudding Wed 20-Mar-13 10:20:20

I really enjoyed it and thought the acting was great, although I'm really not a fan of Alison Steadman. Also loved Denise from last year being in it, I actually love her so much.

The nurse really reminds me of my MIL with a lazy piggish husband (although FIL isn't violent) and an ungrateful, spoilt daughter.

What's the consensus on Helen, the one who left the syndicate?

My view was that if she hadn't assumed she'd get money, was congratulatory and nice to everyone, I'd have given her £100,000 and hoped the rest of the group did the same. Being the mardy, spoilt cow that she was, I think I'd take great pleasure in not giving her anything.

SashaSashays Wed 20-Mar-13 10:31:43

The Helen storyline made me find it hard to like most of the other characters, how they decided before they even had the ticket or she had said anything awful, that she wouldn't be included was awful. If they've each won £14 million I think they should have given her £500,000 each, thats £2.5 in total, if she was clever with it she could give up work on that.

I'm not sure but I remember reading about something in the paper maybe a year ago. A syndicate had won, and a woman (I think the only woman) had left 6 weeks before but had paid into it for years previously and they refused to include her but a few said they would give her some money.

DorcasDelIcatessen Wed 20-Mar-13 11:10:05

I thought the way she showed up saying "We've won!" and then searching for the ticket was very presumptious. I get the feeling she's not a nice person but has some kind of hold over the dark haired one (maybe seen her stealing pills?) which is why she was reluctant to stand up to her and tell her to naff off. The other members didn't seem particular guilt stricken either. She was certainly nasty to them which isn't the smartest thing to do if you want a share of the winnings. I'm sorry but you can't just claim you're a winner if you haven't paid in. The members have to decide and if it goes against you then tough luck. Remember last year when one lad forgot his stake that week and they all had to vote on whether he was included or not? Same thing except he was still a proper member who accidentally forgot to pay and not someone who purposely backed out months before. I once went to bingo without my mum and I won £1200 (normally we went halves on any winnings). The next time I saw her I gave her £600. She was thrilled. One time she went and won £500 and gave me nothing. I was gutted but meh. I can't tell someone to give me some of their winnings if they don't want to. It certainly made me less generous.

GeorgiePorgiePudding Wed 20-Mar-13 11:53:18

Dorcas Ooooh, I like your theory about her having hold of the dark haired nurse- could be very true.
And I agree, I think stuff will come out about her (Helen, the blond one that is) being a nasty piece of work, which is why no-one felt awful about her not getting anything. Also, yes, that was exactly my thinking that it was very presumptuous of her to start shouting 'WE won' when she knew full well that she'd left the syndicate months before. Hence why I'd take great pleasure in not giving her a penny.

New series makes me wonder what I'd spend £14 million on if my work syndicate won....

Bakingnovice Wed 20-Mar-13 11:56:37

It was a bit predictable. And I can't seen arch the nurse without seeing mrs Hughes from downton abbey. Totally different role but acted exactly the same. .

youfhearted Wed 20-Mar-13 12:19:08

hmm, and the two women were walking off arm in arm but the other, Alison Steadman, came back to check what they were do <<strange>>

SashaSashays Wed 20-Mar-13 13:05:58

I thought it looked like Alison Steadman's character checked they weren't looking and went off in a different direction. I think she's having an affair or a bingo addict or something.

GeorgiePorgiePudding Wed 20-Mar-13 13:30:08

Yes, the two nurses walking off together and then Alison Steadman looking back was a bit odd. At the time I did think that perhaps she was going back into the bingo without them but I'm not sure.

DorcasDelIcatessen Wed 20-Mar-13 13:39:18

Siobhan Finneran is an incredible actress. I have only just stopped picturing her asking for a jump in Rita, Sue and Bob too. grin

Bakingnovice Wed 20-Mar-13 13:58:56

Yes yes siobhan is a brilliant actress. She was so good in downton that it's going to take me a while to forget her as that character.

BOEUF Wed 20-Mar-13 14:14:58

She was much softer in this: it was heartbreaking to watch her tiptoeing round her pig of a husband. It really hit home what it's like to be treading on eggshells around an abusive man.

One of my older relatives used to spike her husband with her Valium for years to stop him battering her sad

SashaSashays Wed 20-Mar-13 14:18:08

Well it looked like she's offed him in the next episode so not that soft.

BOEUF Wed 20-Mar-13 14:30:00

I imagine it will be accidental. I'd push him off a bloody cliff.

SashaSashays Wed 20-Mar-13 14:36:29

Well as my DH said, with £14 million, you wouldn't need to do the job yourself.

Ellenora5 Thu 21-Mar-13 01:53:53

I loved it, I think dark haired nurse (mother of the one who lost the ticket) and blonde haired nursed are in love with each other, that's why she feels so betrayed, and thats why pig husband was furious about her saying she might buy a little house somewhere, and that's why Alison Steadman turned back to watch them, because she is suspicious of them.....

eh, hope that makes sense smile and I'm hoping by next week I will actually remember the characters name

FrillyMilly Thu 21-Mar-13 14:10:15

I really enjoyed it. Made me laugh when they turned up at Bradford rugby club and the lad just looked terrified. Based on the last series though I can't see things going well for them.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 26-Mar-13 21:11:09

Who is watching tonight ?

BOEUF Tue 26-Mar-13 21:17:27

I'm watching. It's a bit sad.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 26-Mar-13 21:39:18

I love the woman in the shop !

Bakingnovice Tue 26-Mar-13 21:54:55

Yes shop lady should have a bigger role. I'm not enjoying it as much this week. Think I might be jealous!! Keep thinking of where I'd go on holiday if I won.

Bakingnovice Tue 26-Mar-13 21:59:34

Beckys new guy is sooo familiar!! Has he been in corrie??

sarahandduck Tue 26-Mar-13 22:03:41

He was the trainee solicitor in Kingdom.

Nospringchickendipper Tue 26-Mar-13 22:09:12

He was Robert Sugden in Emmerdale

BOEUF Tue 26-Mar-13 22:13:15

It was horrible how quickly his friends turned against him, wasn't it?

And what has happened to the abusive husband! Do we think he is mouldering away in his bed after overdosing?

cocolepew Tue 26-Mar-13 22:16:23

Why would anyone want to work after winning fourteen million? I'd be away like flynn grin.

PipsWife Tue 26-Mar-13 22:17:52

Thanks nospring that's been annoying me - Emmedale of course!! I hope it goes right for at least one of them, why do their lives have to fall apart? Suppose it world be crap tv if they just moved into big houses, bought nice cars and clothes and lived happily ever after!

Bakingnovice Tue 26-Mar-13 22:17:59

Fantastic acting by mr Saleem and Jimi mistry. V poignant. Oh yes, Robert sugden thats who it is.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 26-Mar-13 22:19:08

Poor Jimi and his horrible friends. I feel really down after that.

Whirliwig72 Tue 26-Mar-13 22:26:04

Oh oh I've got a horrible feeling Tom's wife's late period is going to turn out to be premature menopause or something equally heartbreaking sad

UseHerName Wed 27-Mar-13 21:52:57

what's happened the dad? is he really in suffolk??

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 28-Mar-13 07:15:35

I think he's dead

armagh Thu 28-Mar-13 13:51:40

Missed episode 2. Though it was taped - it wasn't hmm(is this a sad face-can't see it properly on the phone). Synopsis please.

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 28-Mar-13 20:49:56

Can you watch on iPlayer?

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 28-Mar-13 20:54:35

Before I tell you I mean smile

armagh Fri 29-Mar-13 00:41:26

No can't see it on iplayer. Not in U.K

UseHerName Fri 29-Mar-13 18:56:08

i watched on iplayer a few nights ago...

FrillyMilly Fri 29-Mar-13 20:23:01

Seriously why would they still work with all that money. I can understand why they wouldn't share the winnings with the mean one since she didn't put it in when she was in it.

Ellenora5 Sat 30-Mar-13 00:26:51

I've changed my mind about the nurses, the blonde one knows that the dark haired one aka Mrs. Hughes has been stealing tablets to sedate the husband, so she may blackmail her for a few thousand/million. I'm not sure if the husband is dead, maybe she gave him lots of cash to disappear. Jimi Mistrys friends have really turned against him, which was a bit soon. Has Alison Steadman been claiming a pension while working, not sure where that storyline is going. I can totally see the young girl being ripped off by Robert (emmerdale) he is well pissed off about not looking at the phone number in week one.

auforfoulkesake Tue 02-Apr-13 08:53:09

was rather predictable, shame, because jimi mistry was very good.
bit soon for his friends to turn against him,
and didn't make sense cos they saw them on the news announcing their winnings and then didn't say anything when they came into the pub

and where is the brute husband? she is still taking pills from work.

armagh Tue 02-Apr-13 10:12:55

Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog you never filled me in on what happened last week hmm

Chipstick10 Tue 02-Apr-13 21:53:32

Are we supposed to feel sympathy for the poor benefit fraudster? Yawn

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 02-Apr-13 21:55:53

So sorry Armagh , I will write you a précis !!

Ellenora5 Tue 02-Apr-13 23:49:53

The woman chasing Rose about the welfare fraud, is she the actress who played Sams' wife Alice in Emmerdale, it's been driving me mad trying to figure out where I saw her before.

ClartyCarol Wed 03-Apr-13 00:07:30

Yes, you're right. It was bugging me where I'd seen her before and you've just put me out of my misery.

2rebecca Fri 05-Apr-13 09:47:30

I'm surprised the woman who stopped paying in expected anything. If 1 person on their own decided not to buy a ticket that week and the numbers came up they'd win nothing, why should it be different if you're in a group? Why give her money rather than all the other people they work with who also didn't pay for that particular lottery ticket? They could give her something as a good will gesture because she thought up those numbers but in real life surely someone who didn't pay for a lottery ticket wouldn't expect a share of the winnings. They didn't share in her savings all the weeks they didn't win.

The sedating the abusive husband line is a bit silly, not sure what she thinks she's going to actually do with him, I'd be giving him half the money and getting a divorce.

Horsemad Fri 05-Apr-13 15:00:21

I don't know how she'd have got the abusive husband down to the cellar if she'd drugged him confused he's twice her size, she'd have needed assistance!

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 05-Apr-13 20:27:22

Armagh Here you go

armagh Fri 05-Apr-13 23:44:59

Thank you Ken

Ellenora5 Mon 08-Apr-13 15:51:48

Thanks ClartyCarol, I have to say she used to give me the creeps in Emmerdale, don't know why.

Bakingnovice Tue 09-Apr-13 19:31:48

Really not enjoying it anymore. The benefits storyline was frustrating to watch with all the cat and mouse shenanigans. The hubby in the cellar was ridiculous and this week we've got the blackmailing storyline. It started off so well.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 09-Apr-13 21:38:19

Tonight's is massively depressing. Poor Robert from Emmerdale.

BOF Tue 09-Apr-13 21:40:10

I'm cringing at this tonight. Becky doesn't deserve that lovely boy.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 09-Apr-13 21:44:19

I liked Becky to start with but this is stupid now. I did want to freeze frame the clothes changing moment blush

AnyFucker Tue 09-Apr-13 21:47:28

Biiiiig mistake, Becky

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 09-Apr-13 22:00:13

Aaaaaaaaah

AnyFucker Tue 09-Apr-13 22:05:59

smile

Horsemad Tue 09-Apr-13 22:08:19

Is it very wrong to really fancy the lovely lad Becky is going out with?!
I'm old enough to be his mother I should think. confused

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 09-Apr-13 22:13:52

I feel ashamed to say this , it's wrong but oh so right .

Southeastdweller Tue 09-Apr-13 22:45:00

I enjoyed perving on the boyfriend, too wink

XBenedict Tue 09-Apr-13 22:45:51

I also love Luke and could easily be his mother!

Ellenora5 Wed 10-Apr-13 01:02:21

I knew there would be more to lucious Luke blush, ah he's lovely and I too could be his mother!!! and I hope he doesn't keep in touch with Becky and sells the car and takes his brother on holiday grin

Besides that, it's gone ridiculous, does Becky remind anyone else of Gennie in Emmerdale, or am I just watching to much telly.

Horsemad Wed 10-Apr-13 07:00:02

I don't watch Emmerdale so don't know Gennie, but Becky reminds me of Samantha Bond who was Miss Moneypenny in the Bond films and also the mum's sister in Outnumbered.
Anyone else see the resemblance?

waikikamookau Wed 10-Apr-13 08:50:56

still watching it, I didn't believe the woman from dept. for work was legit. oh and how she slept with the alcoholic and then went off him but he seems to still like her. oh dear.
don't understand why this woman has her husband in the cellar.
how ridiculous.

Davros Wed 10-Apr-13 09:32:30

The woman drugging the pig husband was miss o'Brien in Downton wasn't she?!

Ellenora5 Wed 10-Apr-13 13:31:31

She was Davros, the two characters are quite similiar at the moment.
Horsemad, your right she does look like Samantha Bond, she was great in outnumbered.

Southeastdweller Tue 16-Apr-13 22:33:13

I enjoyed tonight's episode and didn't see the twist coming!

HeavenlyYoni Tue 16-Apr-13 23:03:18

So, has he just left 'her' on the yacht, never to go back.

I like this programme but not keen on the re-caps. It's like you watch 1/4 of last week's episode - what's the point in that, we do have capability to remember!

Ellenora5 Tue 16-Apr-13 23:35:26

I saw that coming a mile away, don't know why but just knew she would be a bloke, wasn't she in Corrie, Tinas friend who ended up marrying Graham.

Didn't really like tonights episode, bit predictable, wonder will all the loose ends be tied up next week.

Horsemad Tue 16-Apr-13 23:40:20

The recaps drive me mad!

Enjoyed tonight's episode, didn't see the twist coming either.
Half of them will be in prison for next week!! grin

Southeastdweller Wed 17-Apr-13 08:34:17

Yes she was in Corrie. I think she overdid it a bit in the acting.

I hope Helen gets hers next week!

Southeastdweller Tue 23-Apr-13 22:16:04

I thought this episode was quite powerful and the acting was great.

Hope it comes back for a third series.

Horsemad Tue 23-Apr-13 22:44:02

I wondered how the final episode would pan out and I really enjoyed it!
Hope they do a sequel of these winners.

Ellenora5 Wed 24-Apr-13 02:05:18

Think they saved the best till last, loved tonights episode and they wound up a few loose ends for me. At least we know more now as to why Helen was such a bitch, she was so bitter over everything but some of it wasn't her fault, her sister and her husband was hard for her. I really didn't think Becky and your man(emmerdale) would stay together. Glad Beckys mum got away though, he was a pig and wouldn't have changed a bit.

Good thread, thanks for the chat people smile

2rebecca Wed 24-Apr-13 11:24:01

He was portrayed as a one dimensional pig with no redeeming features. Her constantly lying to him seemed silly though and designed to make him suspicious.
it was a bit of a nonending. They're still married, they have the lottery winnings to split in an acrimonious divorce settlement and being stuck in Crete away from friends and family (OK daughter may go out there sometimes but if she does father will sometimes come too and discover mandy) not much of a happy ending.
I'd have preferred her to openly tell him she wanted a divorce and get injunctions etc against him and stay in the UK.

motherto4 Wed 24-Apr-13 22:06:28

It wasn't easy for her to be truthful to him and considering his temper she preferred not to tell him things that would make life worse for her. He was the father of her child so not so easy to put him away without consequences. And if I remember rightly from the last series you don't have to split lottery winnings in alimoney! Its ALL hers

HeavenlyYoni Wed 24-Apr-13 23:10:48

Really enjoyed it. Didn't see the first series so will look for that. Would like to see another BBC!

Vagndidit Thu 25-Apr-13 11:48:23

VERY Disappointing ending, I thought. And don't get me started on the logistics of the big flight switcharoo and the fact that her luggage is going elsewhere with her running to catch a flight she hasn't even checked in for.

Normally I give the benefit of the doubt in stories of a battered wife but this was over the top in plotholes. Wonderful acting (barring spazztastic Becky) but a rubbish story.

2rebecca Thu 25-Apr-13 16:13:39

You can now check in and print out boarding passes online and if no hold luggage just go straight to the departure gate. They may query why she had one boarding pass scanned at security and another at the gate though and her husband would have put out an emergency call for her when she unexplainably went missing that the staff on her plane may have spotted was her though so I agree it's unlikely she could just fly off without him being informed about what had happened. If my husband suddenly went missing I'd get airport security involved.

HeavenlyYoni Thu 25-Apr-13 23:41:07

Now you mention that about the flight switcharoos, you have a point Vag.

Why would she care about her luggage being on a different plane - she can just buy new stuff.

KatyDid02 Sat 27-Apr-13 21:36:22

I loved the idea, it shows that there is hope (however unrealistic). Maybe that's a pipe dream but not all marriages are good and there are always dreams.....
