Ooh it gives me the willies. I would hate to be going through any of that stuff. Some hard hitting stuff!

GrannyRatOnAScooter Thu 14-Mar-13 21:40:56

I am! Nearly wet myself when the guy got shot. clever though - hiding in the boot.

Enjoying it so far.

GW297 Thu 14-Mar-13 21:56:15

I like it.

NoelHeadbands Thu 14-Mar-13 21:58:22

I missed the first half hour, wasnt meaning to watch it but flicked on to it and now I'm gripped.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme Thu 14-Mar-13 22:06:14

That poor bloke that's been accused of child molestation though. If he really didn't do it, well it doesn't make much difference now, he's been punished anyway. In prison and beaten up, which would probably be a regular occurrence. God can you imagine it?

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 14-Mar-13 22:18:11

Me. Loved the first series

As the car turned after man was shot I was wondering how he got shot as no windows or windscreen had a hole

Very clever from boot

HeavenlyAmy Thu 14-Mar-13 22:20:28

Loved it. Will be watching every episode. What happened to the skanky ginger drug dealer girl, who wasn't so bad but just looked it?

Chippychop Thu 14-Mar-13 22:38:58

I'd like a bit more info around the gangland boss prisoner, whatshisname, I mean how on earth did he get and keep so powerful when he's locked up

MrsTomHardy Thu 14-Mar-13 22:51:31

Love this series

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 14-Mar-13 23:20:09

Weird seeing the prossie from shameless as the wife of the molester

I hope he didn't do it but wonder if he did - or is the neighbours revenge

Looks like the vicar is gonna get lucky !!!!

MrsTomHardy Fri 15-Mar-13 08:16:06

That woman from Shameless looks so different in this series....I wasn't sure it even was her at first!

Cherrypie32 Fri 15-Mar-13 09:40:17

I watched and loved all first series and would have been good to see some of the other original characters again but I suppose these things need to move along. Thought last night equally as good.

SashaSashays Fri 15-Mar-13 13:12:27

Such a different character for the woman from Shameless, although she plays it well, I already dislike and believe her.

I really wish they had done a 'previously' at the start. I watched the first series and really enjoyed it but I couldn't remember how it was left with all the various characters. Would have liked to have had a little reminder.

Also lack of the two other women (ginger one and that one off Hollyoaks) is irritating, Harriet took their son in the woman and now what, they never even cross her mind. Eve if they can't get the actors back for some reason they should have been mentioned.

Overall I think its a good series though, highlights lots of issues without being patronising. Hope it keeps up the drama.

MsNobodyAgain Fri 15-Mar-13 18:08:13

I watched the first series and could have done with a recap. It was good though, the fella in the boot.

The police woman is one to watch I think. I am also interested about the child molestation storyline...did he or didn't he?

Also, did the vicar stop Harriets son converting to another religion?

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sat 16-Mar-13 18:07:29

It's a fantastic series and I'm so glad it's back. Polly Walker is a brilliant actress- can't take my eyes off her. She is so good that I want that female DCI to completely fail in catching Francesca out.

The child molester storyline doesn't sit well with DH and I. Someone in our family was sexually abused and the guy wasn't ever even remanded for one night after his arrest. He was on over 20 charges of child rape and got off through lack of evidence. Hence we feel a bit shaky watching this particular plotline.

NuhichNuhaymuh Sat 16-Mar-13 18:11:38

The red head drug dealer went to prisoner herself didn't she. The boyfriend was released?

I could be making it up though

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sat 16-Mar-13 18:46:29

Yes the redhead had to do time for dealing weed. Some of the stories from the last series were kind of complete, so I can see how they ended some and kept other open.

It's brilliantly written and it's one of those TV series that DH and I both enjoy equally.

I loved the last series, and I am so glad it is back.

MsNobody - I thought it was the Imam who stopped Harriet's son from converting. Did I miss something - did her vicar boyfriend talk to the imam?

NuhichNuhaymuh Sat 16-Mar-13 19:02:36

Yes it was the Imam, because he wasnt coverting for the right reason. Why does he want to? I've forgotten, is it to avoid being beaten up? How would it help anyway, the beater upers are muslim are they.

I thought that he was being protected by them, but they turned on him pretty fast when he wasn't allowed to convert, didn't they? That was why he told them about the accused child molester being on the wing, I think.

I was surprised he wasn't segregated, though. But I suppose it wouldn't make such good tv, would it.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes Sat 16-Mar-13 19:07:23

Thought it was great.

Watched yesterday with ds1 (17) - we both love it!

Agree Polly Walker is amazing, and the actress who plays Harriet. David Bradley (Franny's father) fantastic in everything he does, he's in Lightfields as well at the mo.

Funny, it didn't occur to me for a moment that the football-coach father had assaulted the neighbour's child until DS said at the end "Yeah - course he did it, they just want you to think he didn't."

Chocs I'm sorry you and your family are upset about this storyline. Must make for very difficult viewing, for quite a few people out there. Hope they conclude it in a sensitive way.

Did anyone else pick up on football-coach's own son seeming very nervy around him, and terrified when the police turned up at the house?

momofalltrades Sun 17-Mar-13 10:48:16

i watched the first series and couldn't wait for the second, missed first episode but caught up on iplayer and already it seems like it's going to be good. sensitivity should be paramount as there are so many issues in dramas that are very real in todays society, years ago things like child abuse, drugs, and gang warfare were things that might not have been spoke about. issues like these should be addressed

SashaSashays Sun 17-Mar-13 11:01:30

I have a bit of a weird crush on Paul/The guy who plays him/Franny's husband.

Strange as I've seen him in Game of Thrones and never had such thoughts.

PearlyWhites Sun 17-Mar-13 11:32:55

The football coach is innocent it says in the sky program info, didn't think it was meant to be an is he or isn't he.

I must admit the scene of the next morning when she was serving them breakfast and the boys were looking at for some reason broke my heart, 3 innocent little faces sad had to remind myself it was just a programme grin some of th characters are great, love Hattie and her son.

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sun 17-Mar-13 11:41:10

Pearly- is that true? Would they really reveal the whole story arc in the first epiesode? I'm with NotQuite- I think the twist is that he's guilty- maybe that's why his alleged victim plays up in the first place.

SashaSashays Sun 17-Mar-13 11:47:12

I don't know because last series was all about how that girl off Hollyoaks thought her husband was innocent then he turned out to be guilty. I think it might be more complicated, maybe we never know sort of thing.

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sun 17-Mar-13 12:02:33

Sasha- I agree. In the last series Gemma's husband seemed completely innocent and it all seemed like a terrible mistake, but as the series went on, it was clear that his involvement in crime was 100 times worse than she thought.

I think the alleged child molester storytelling will go the same way.

bootsycollins Sun 17-Mar-13 12:14:10

I reckon Fran will end up in prison and the drug dealing sons drug dealing business will go so well that he'll end up a well 'ard gangster just like his dad, chip off the old block.

I'm guessing that their keeping Fran and the lady whose son wants to convert to Islam as main characters and introduce new characters and story lines around them like last series. I love Polly Walker, she's perfect for Fran.

So much good stuff on at the moment, I'm hooked on Mr Selfridge, Lightfields, Broadchurch, gutted that Call the Midwife ended last week!.

Ellenora5 Sun 17-Mar-13 14:38:08

I think it's a fantastic programme, I was wondering that myself about the boy acting up all the time, Fran is a brilliant character and you can see that her father is torn between loving her and wanting her out of his life, yes it looks like her son will be going the same way as his Dad. I just presumed that Harriet handed over the little boy when his Dad was released from prison. I got the impression that the vicar had something to do with Gavin not being allowed convert. I don't trust the vicar, not sure why. Roll on episode 2

Hope you don't mind me joining in Ladies

Ooh it's exciting isn't it. The more the merrier on this forum, love how we all pick up different nuances in the storyline wink

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sun 17-Mar-13 16:22:50

I don't think they can afford to put Fran in prison- she makes such fantastic telly. Did anyone see Polly Walker in Enchanted April years ago? She played a beautiful 1920s socialite and was utterly stunning, still is.

tiredemma Sun 17-Mar-13 16:25:04

I watched 'the Mayor of Casterbridge' recently and Polly was in that- she is a fantastic actress.

Love Prisoners wives-

GW297 Sun 17-Mar-13 17:09:29

Yes, it was a bit of a repeat idea when the police barged in and the wife had no idea why. Agree the actress who plays Fran is talented and well cast. I think the story-lines are very believable, especially Fran's and Harriet's.

PearlyWhites Sun 17-Mar-13 19:07:51

Yes I though it was a twist but that's what the sky blurb said ?

Blondeshavemorefun Sun 17-Mar-13 19:37:44

As I said I think he is guilty and did molest sad

Then again better tv if innocent and banged up and beaten up and the neighbour strutting about outside late at night smoking and drinking from the can

Chippychop Sun 17-Mar-13 20:26:27

I've just watched it again (Dh came home and chatted a fair bit and I missed stuff) I reckon the paedo is innocent I'm not sure it'd make good telly to have a 'nonce' locked up and one of the main characters - I still think its too raw a subject for main steam telly, mind you the lead up to any trial would be good telly, and there could be some good scenes between the next doors chavs.

The dci has got issues I reckon 'it's personal'

Harriet is great - is the vicar going to go all the way without being married??? I wonder how innocent the vicar really is..maybe he's a bit of a baddy himself.. Who knows, can't wait until next time

ChocsAwayInMyGob Sun 17-Mar-13 20:51:15

I just think if the child molester is innocent it's too black and white a story. What if the nasty Waynetta next door is telling the truth- now that would be a twist, plus the added drama of the wife having to come to terms with it.

TheBrocoliIsStillRaw Sun 17-Mar-13 21:06:52

So glad I found this thread. I was absolutely hooked on the first series, hope this will be equally as gripping. I'm hoping the child molester is innocent I think it would be a bit samey if he was guilty.

Blondeshavemorefun Mon 18-Mar-13 15:33:23

true chocs, maybe he is guilty

blondes sits on fence pulling splinters out of her blonde butt grin

ChocsAwayInMyGob Mon 18-Mar-13 17:42:14

I just remembered the fourth storyline- the beautiful woman with the Dad that looks like a potato. She wants him to be out in time for the wedding, but that's SOO not going to happen, is it!

NuhichNuhaymuh Thu 21-Mar-13 22:40:04

Anyone watch this week?

MsNobodyAgain Thu 21-Mar-13 22:48:37

Yep. Bit surprised at the affair.

Harriets son is turning into a nasty piece of work.

NuhichNuhaymuh Thu 21-Mar-13 23:00:15

wasn't that alluded to last series?

He's very easily led. Can't remember what he's in for mind!

scarlettsmummy2 Thu 21-Mar-13 23:14:29

Harriet's son looks to young to be in there!

Is he in for drug offences? Feel so sorry for Harriet she keeps trying to get things right but it goes wrong. Where is her son's dad I wonder?

Didn't actually think last night's episode quite as gripping as the first one. Although the mum interfering with the boy who has accused her husband was quite nail biting. She's desperate isn't she, you would do anything to get him to tell the truth.

Unless he's already telling the truth shock

MsNobodyAgain Fri 22-Mar-13 09:01:32

Harriets husband got blown off a cliff when a gust of wind caught under his kagool.

She explained last night. It was quite funny.

NuhichNuhaymuh Fri 22-Mar-13 09:10:54

Harriet appeals to e more now than she did originally.

Was it drugs her sons in for (can't remember his name! Gavin?)

I think the football man's innocent myself. Im staying with that still.

Icelollycraving Fri 22-Mar-13 10:08:49

I am loving this series. Loved the first series too.
I have a crush on Francesca blush.
I think the coach is guilty. If your dh was innocent & the police came to your door & arrested him for being a paedophile, would he not look a bit more frightened/shocked not so resigned?

janesnowdon1 Fri 22-Mar-13 10:18:08

I think Harriet's son Gavin was seen as lonely and odd and got in with a bad lot. He agreed to hide a gun in his house for them. Harriet found it and told the police - I think she did not realise Gavin would go to prison. A lot of his resentment and her guilt about him in series 1 was about this.

I love Prisoner's wives - so glad it's got a second series. Although I have always thought that Frannie's son is miscast - not charasmatic enough to lure in the girls like he does.

NuhichNuhaymuh Fri 22-Mar-13 11:24:54

You're not wrong there. He's far to boyish.

As DH said when he was in the back of the van with the pretty daughter of his dad's cell mate "well he's punching well above his weight"

ChocsAwayInMyGob Fri 22-Mar-13 11:29:36

Brilliant last night. I can't believe a TV series has got me rooting for a gangster's wife and hoping the police will fall on their arse. I just want Fran to be Queen of the world.

Anne thingy off Dinnerladies is good isn't she? She's always plays such a naice lady and here she is being bloody NAILS.

Wonderful series- they certainly did the right thing in keeping Fran and the Miller family on board.

WishIdbeenatigermum Fri 22-Mar-13 11:41:17

It's very good. I hope the molester isn't innocent. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of child abuse being used as a plot twist.

Of course, thanks MrsNobody - I'm on strong 'flu tablets at the mo, had completely forgotten that from last night.

Twinklestarstwinklestars Fri 22-Mar-13 11:48:00

Hadn't realised it was back on, off to watch on iplayer now.

PseudoBadger Fri 22-Mar-13 23:13:28

I reckon that it's the guy she's having the affair with who actually assaulted the boy....

My friend worked on this series (and the first), I love it!

Ellenora5 Sat 23-Mar-13 01:38:27

I'm still not sure about the coach at all, I knew the minute she took the little lad for a burger that it would back fire on her, I don't like her much anyway, does she ever blink, the man she had the affair with is definitely dodgy. I'm wondering did he set the whole thing up.

I have an awful feeing that Gavin is going to kill the vicar. He is so easily led that I think he will do anything he is told.

Agree also about Frans son, he looks like a 15 year old, when I was watching I thought to myself why couldn't they have made him look older and more believable. Can't wait for next week!!

PseudoBadger Sat 23-Mar-13 06:32:44

I agree something bad will happen to the vicar

MabelsBelles Sun 24-Mar-13 18:10:58

I loved the way Harriet delivered the story about how her husband died. She makes me think of my lab , when she smiles she's so happy and trusting and innocent. But a little part of me wondered whether she might have pushed her husband off the cliff grin

Blondeshavemorefun Sun 24-Mar-13 19:39:41

Wonder if ever found his body

Also wondering if best friend / boyfriend set up coach?

TheBrocoliIsStillRaw Sun 24-Mar-13 20:18:03

Hadn't thought of that (boyfriend did it/set him up. I am liking this series so far. Interested to see how it pans out.

Blondeshavemorefun Sun 24-Mar-13 21:58:26

shame only 4 episodes - so 2 left sad

BenjaminButton172 Mon 25-Mar-13 21:20:15

Havent seen this weeks episode and had no idea that it was a follow on from the first series. wonder if it will still be on iplayer.

It did say on my tv guide that an innocent football coach gets sent to prison.

Boggler Thu 28-Mar-13 22:55:19

Bloody brilliant tonight, so much is happening can't imagine how it's going to end next week.

NuhichNuhaymuh Thu 28-Mar-13 22:58:21

poor vicar man! hows this going to effect their relationship now? I'd say Gavins in trouble now.

MsNobodyAgain Fri 29-Mar-13 20:30:02

Just watched. The woman that plays Harriet is brilliant.

The last episode will be frantic with all the loose ends they have to tie up.

Ellenora5 Sat 30-Mar-13 00:02:01

It's a pity there are only four episodes, but I think it's leaving a way open for a third series. Frans husband will get even longer in prison for his involvement in the murder and Gavin will also because of kicking forty shades out of the priest. It seems that the next door neighbour will do the right thing and get non blinky eye womans husband out of prison (apologies again for not remembering names blush)

I hope Harriet and the Vicar stay together, and I agree she is a brilliant actress, she was in Mr Selfridge wasn't she.

Now I'm off to google to check something, but the girl who plays Lauren has the same surname as a Sally in Corrie and her hubby who writes/produces Emmerdale. I could be totally wrong of course but need to check anyway.

Ellenora5 Sat 30-Mar-13 00:04:52

Yep it's her, she was in Waterloo Road aswell but I stopped watching that a long time ago. Nosiness is a terrible thing grin

Blondeshavemorefun Sat 30-Mar-13 15:33:54

finally caught up

cant beleive gavin gave the vicar a kicking shock and harriets acting via the crisps/knife - shes good

always rem her in somecomedy set in a leisure centre and she was the wife of the boss who had think tons of kids

so coach is innocent,as neighbour said she didnt think it would go that far

sad the dad died

who was the bloke at the end who front door got busted and had to lie on the floor

Humph, was hoping for a happy ending for Harriet, mind you it does look as though she was better off without the vicar.

PseudoBadger Thu 04-Apr-13 22:17:46

I thought it was implied that she was maybe moving to be with him? I cried when she said goodbye to Gavin, her little boy sad

Ah she have Pseudo, I had to get up to let the dog out into the garden at the crucial moment so might have missed something grin

Yep, that was moving, had a little choke then. Guess they won't be making a third series sad

Bluelightsandsirens Thu 04-Apr-13 22:31:43

I'm loving it again, such good acting all round and pleased at the outcome for the football coach and family this evening.

Ellenora5 Thu 04-Apr-13 23:38:06

I thought it was a great episode, I had a few tears when Harriet was saying goodbye to Gavin, but she did the right thing, I think the Vicar has gone and she was selling up so she could move on in all ways.

There might be a third series now that Matt is in prison, the twat, why didn't he just keeping going out the door with Lauren instead of shooting someone.

We can only wait and see, but if it comes back we can revive this threadsmile

cheerfulweather Sat 06-Apr-13 19:31:59

Harriet is wonderful, I loved her character.
I hope there is another series.

PseudoBadger Sat 06-Apr-13 19:37:17

I've asked my friend who worked on it and she says they are waiting for an answer from the BBC - i'll keep you updated smile

Blondeshavemorefun Sat 06-Apr-13 20:35:32

Total twat

I would have locked them in the cupboard they kept his sister in

Or shot in leg

Even if he missed the thugs would have been scared

Glad Harriet stood up to Gavin

Glad also coach got off free

Cowardly vicar sad

All in all a good ending

HeavenlyYoni Sat 13-Apr-13 21:37:57

Was that the last one?

ChocsAwayInMyGob Tue 16-Apr-13 12:02:52

Yes there were just four. I liked the fact that Fran still has looses ends, suggesting she will be in another series, if there is one. Polly Walker is so watchable.

HeavenlyYoni Wed 17-Apr-13 22:18:44

Grrr! Very disappointed.
