Greys Anatomy. What's up with me?

I've been lent the boxed set. I'm halfway through the second season and, you know what? I can't abide Meredith. It's got so bad that I think it may stop me enjoying the show. She's like some surgeon Carrie Bradshaw. Now, all my girlfriends love her so it has to be me right? It's the same with Hannah from Girls. I stopped watching because of her.

Why am I so intolerant?

OliviaMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 13-Mar-13 21:46:00

Nothing up with you
You just need to suck it up embrace Meredith's bitching inner monologuing and enjoy it for mcdreamy the rest of the cast
I am a hundred seasons behind

Lighthousekeeping Wed 13-Mar-13 21:55:06

Me too. It's my new guilty pleasure. I actually like the wife. Can't stand Alex. Meredith is as miserable as sin.

BrendaBlethyn Wed 13-Mar-13 21:57:08

i gave up series 2

upinthehills Wed 13-Mar-13 22:00:01

Stick with it - I just watched season 1-7 on lovefilm instant in the space of 3 months - immersed myself and gave up watching anything else on tv and just retired in the evening to bed with the laptop - even started to dream about it all the time!

Was motivated as it is disappearing from Lovefilm at the end of March.

I too find her a bit annoying, but as you get into it the other characters become more central.

upinthehills Wed 13-Mar-13 22:00:56

It started off as my ironing trash and I got hooked! Best watched in big binges I reckon.

Wolfiefan Wed 13-Mar-13 22:02:28

Don't give up. Drool over McSteamy/Dreamy and prepare to laugh and cry through the next few series!
007 anyone?
Take the train guys!
(Hoping they weren't spoilers but you'll get it if you've seen the episodes.)

Lighthousekeeping Wed 13-Mar-13 22:06:35

She's just met the vet. Is she so annoying throughout the 9 seasons? I hated what she did to George. Mcdreamy is divine but, I so want to wash his hair. I can't believe the amount of shagging that goes on in oncall rooms. I must pay more attention next time I'm on nights grin

BrendaBlethyn Wed 13-Mar-13 22:07:03

i dont fancy dreamy though

Islagiatt Wed 13-Mar-13 22:11:13

As time goes on the focus is less on "Mer" and more on the other characters and so much more interesting.

I love it and despite my determination, it is one of the few programmes that manage to make me cry every time! Keep going - it gets better!

BrigitBigKnickers Wed 13-Mar-13 22:14:15

We have trawled through 7 series of Grey's and love it- but I agree- Meredith is boring and annoying! Loads of other great characters. Love Bailey!

I love Grey's. never found Meredith particularly annoying though! Love Christina smile but yes she does get less whiney 'dark' as the series go on.
I think a lot of people ended up liking Addison they gave her her own spin off after all!
Like all tv program's some episodes are better than others but when Greys get it right boy do they get it right! Like upinthehills when I discovered it I just ran through the series watching whole discs at a time and there aren't may shows I can bear to do that with.

BrendaBlethyn Wed 13-Mar-13 22:15:44

the plot was shit

too moralistic and sign posted ideas

i prefer mad men

Still18atheart Wed 13-Mar-13 22:21:56

I love Greys, Have to say I find Meredith is a PITA in the early season too. But she does get better. Think the character i don't like the most is Christina

Bailey, Webber and Callie are my favourites and Derek is lovely on the eye

She has much less of the show as it goes on

I barely notice her now

Lighthousekeeping Wed 13-Mar-13 22:24:43

Derek hardly suits him does it? It's like findin out Bigs name was John. I'm loving heart guy. He's so hot. I'm praying he gets a new heart.

Lighthousekeeping Wed 13-Mar-13 22:56:29

I hope Meredith doesn't end up with Derek.

whoneedstosleep Thu 14-Mar-13 10:40:24

I'm right up to date with what has aired in the US and I still have a love/hate relationship with her.
Love love love Christina.

I agree with others some episodes are a bit rubbish (the musical one!) but when it's good it's really good!

Lighthousekeeping Thu 14-Mar-13 10:45:46

I'm in a train and downloaded a couple of episodes. The start of season three. At £3 an episode I want be doing that again.

Last night she reminded me of Ally Macbeal. Always looks like her hair needs washing and, even Macdreamy seemed abit sleazy to me.
That blooming dog. They'd had it all of five minutes and it was "our dog"
I'm a terrible cynic I am.

Jayne266 Thu 14-Mar-13 10:53:38

She's just met the vet? Oh you have lots to come I have cried so much am now at the very latest hospital, money etc don't want to spoil.

Lighthousekeeping Thu 14-Mar-13 10:56:05

Bloody Izzy. That was a pathetic storyline. Although I loved heart guy I didn't shed one tear. Probably because of the shagging that was was going on in the next room it took the edge off.

merlottits Thu 14-Mar-13 11:08:21

I'm up-to-date (season 9) and I still hate Meredith.
Dry faced, lank haired and boring. Why do men fancy her? She could never get a McDreamy in a million years. I still wonder if she is related to the director/producer or summat. Otherwise doesn't make any sense...she's just so drab.

Keep watching you get used to her boring face and learn to tune it out grin

Lighthousekeeping Thu 14-Mar-13 11:13:37

She is Carrie Bradshaw!! Without the nice clothes. I can't forgive her for George.

TheThickPlottens Thu 14-Mar-13 11:19:57

I missed a load in the middle but have seen the seasons 8&9. Derek doesn't do it for me so Meredith can have him.

I like that they are mostly normal looking. That not everyone is stick thin.
Arizona pisses me off. There is a good cycling of characters so I live in hope that she'll disappear one day.

Oh the musical episode was diabolical.

Lighthousekeeping Thu 14-Mar-13 11:25:48

I need to be warned when that ones coming up

gingercat12 Thu 14-Mar-13 12:38:11

I have given up on season 9. Just could not face any more of it.

whoneedstosleep Thu 14-Mar-13 13:00:52

I think Shonda (creator and writer) is devoting more of her attention on her newer show Scandal.

Lighthousekeeping Thu 14-Mar-13 13:19:47

There's nothing original about it. When do I need to purchase Private Practice?

whoneedstosleep Thu 14-Mar-13 13:53:32

I loved Private Practice at first but eventually got fed up with some of the storylines & characters.
It is worth watching though.

Mamf74 Thu 14-Mar-13 19:26:18

It is getting better, the characters are less irritating now and although Meredith is a grand royal pita she gets mire bearable.

And Greys have the record of giving me a 2 day sob-induced headache at a (I think) season finale. Won't spoiler it, but it's the moment where a patient writes something on a hand. Devastating.

montage Thu 14-Mar-13 19:40:08

Meredith definately becomes less annoying as time goes by and her character changes.

I agree about Arizona - I was devastated with this season's premiere both for the obvious reason and because they genuinely raised my hopes that Arizona and April were gone. Both irritate me so much.

I'm not that keen on most of the new interns yet either and a mass cull at the end of the season would not break my heart.

Love Christina, Bailey, Webber and Alex though.

Lighthousekeeping Sun 17-Mar-13 22:19:31

At what point does she become less annoying? I'm at the part were both the doctor and vet are fighting over her. Why??

SingingSands Sun 17-Mar-13 22:31:04

I adore Grey's. Started watching 5 years ago when pregnant with DS. As for the characters, I love them all. Even this season's new interns. But my all time favourite is Christina.

I still love grey's. Izzy was the only one who drove me crazy in the end. Am oddly attached to Meredith.

I felt quite uncomfortable about private practice. The drs were (mostly) massively unethical, and there were some rape & abortion related story lines which were incredibly right wing in a scary way.

Lighthousekeeping Sun 17-Mar-13 22:44:25

I don't know if I'm going to get into that. I'm just wondering how Izzy managed to get left 8.4 million! What did heart guy do for a living? I wish I had a local bar like there's.

Lighthousekeeping Sun 17-Mar-13 22:44:47

Theirs. Hospital social clubs are long gone.

Lighthousekeeping Tue 19-Mar-13 19:37:30

Oh, it's the ferry one. I've heard good things so I'm putting the kettle on.

I can't help thinking that I hope izzy at least bought her mum a little house before she gave all that money away.

HolidayArmadillo Tue 19-Mar-13 19:42:39

I love Greys. Like seriously love it. But I can take or leave Meredith. But it wouldn't be the same without her. Fave characters are Karev, Callie, Hunt and George.

Arithmeticulous Tue 19-Mar-13 19:59:05

You'll like the ferry one - Meredith dies smile

Lighthousekeeping Tue 19-Mar-13 20:07:27

As if. I know one of them does eventually but, I do not know and I don't want to.

Lighthousekeeping Tue 19-Mar-13 22:47:17

Bloody hell how many parts to the ferry crash is there? I'll have to have a drink now.

How could she possibly survive the drowning and her brain be intact she's been out for at east 30 minutes.

Arithmeticulous Wed 20-Mar-13 21:33:28

Is she nearly dead yet still?

Lighthousekeeping Wed 20-Mar-13 21:57:47

No she's bloody awake and back to work like not happened. Now Issy has started to get on my wick. I was actually relieved that the episode I'm on has followed Addison to the private practice. I'll watch the season 3 finale tonight and then I'm going to have to decide whether to carry on.

Mamf74 Thu 21-Mar-13 09:52:50

It is worth sticking with, there is definitely a change in the characters which makes them more bearable. I think Meredith makes it through a whole season without incident eventually!

Keep watching! The last couple of series have been brilliant!

Christina is fantastic...but my absolute favourite is Callie (in the later series)

Private practice is brilliant!

Lighthousekeeping Fri 22-Mar-13 19:05:26

I've fast forwarded most of season 4. I watched it when Addidon came back because I luvs her but, then she tells Meredith to fight for McDreamy argh!! Please, I'm begging you, someone tell me that the whole show isn't about the being on and off? I really need to know.
