After the one with the Prime minister and pig, its got to be done..

IrrelevantElephant Mon 11-Feb-13 22:19:15

I'm watching- but 10mins behind because it looks creepy. Can someone give me an advance warning if anything scary happens so I don't jump out my skin?!

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:22:00

Will do grin

TwllBach Mon 11-Feb-13 22:27:00

I'm in.

I found the last ones so bleak that I was glad when the series ended. I think it's good he only does 3/4 at a time!

Footface Mon 11-Feb-13 22:29:13

I'm bored! Anyone else?

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:30:35

Weird concept..

Its slow i agree, but i think its all going to get well twisted..

MarshaBrady Mon 11-Feb-13 22:31:30

Hmm not much in it yet.

MarshaBrady Mon 11-Feb-13 22:32:06

Oh right, there's something now.

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 22:33:26

Passmethecrisps Mon 11-Feb-13 22:33:26

Footface Mon 11-Feb-13 22:38:24

Pet cemetery maybe?

NoelHeadbands Mon 11-Feb-13 22:38:44

How far ahead in the future is it set, did it say in the beginning?

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:40:04

Urgh Hes fizzling and bobbling..

Missed it if it did, looks present day to me..

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 22:40:11

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 22:40:41

Black feet

How did he die?

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:42:52

Snuggle in Sole smile

I couldn't touch him..

NoelHeadbands Mon 11-Feb-13 22:43:00

I presumed with the technology that it was supposed to be a couple of years ahead

(I mean the phones and stuff, not the talk to the dead app)

NoelHeadbands Mon 11-Feb-13 22:45:15

I wonder if she's tempted to say "oh your penis was much much larger than that"

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 22:45:45

No record of sexual response. Kick it to the kerb!

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:45:58

I was just thinking that Noel grin

MarshaBrady Mon 11-Feb-13 22:46:37

Not as good as last series is it, so far.

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 22:47:27

Ooh take it back!

I wonder whether he has a record of loyalty..grin I want!!

IrrelevantElephant Mon 11-Feb-13 22:48:16

I'm on the 2nd ad break where he says "there's another level to it- I won't lie, it's a bit creepy" so I paused it and jumped on here to check what it was!! Haha.
Think I can handle a sex-loving hologram! Thanks for the heads up grin

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 22:48:49

It's just gone weird now, not scared anymore !

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:50:26

He cant come though surely.. or maybe his supper comes out, he did say he could chew and swallow, gotta come out somewhere..

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 22:52:35

she's going to end up killing him/it !

IrrelevantElephant Mon 11-Feb-13 22:53:17

Oh god this IS creepy "don't switch the bathroom light on- let it brew"

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 22:55:40

why wrap the glass in paper ?

NoelHeadbands Mon 11-Feb-13 22:55:52

Gawd she got pissed off with him quickly enough didn't she?

Sunnywithshowers Mon 11-Feb-13 22:56:25

I agree.

It reminds me a bit of Truly, Madly, Deeply. But with added creep.

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 22:56:32

Shes gonna go nutty for sure..

Guess its a programmed response millipede, for her safety?

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 22:59:14

he needs to go !

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:00:34

Aye - he just said he cant go 25 metres from activation point, now they're on a cliff?

Sunnywithshowers Mon 11-Feb-13 23:02:31

He could only go more than 25m away with her.

sad at attic.

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 23:04:39

Missed the very last scene. I heard the word Mum...

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 23:04:53

Just too too weird.

MarshaBrady Mon 11-Feb-13 23:05:34

Oh the attic that is creepy.

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 23:05:52

she just went up the stairs, that was it. so, you missed nowt sole.

TwllBach Mon 11-Feb-13 23:06:08

...bit disappointed in that actually

ethelb Mon 11-Feb-13 23:06:31

I loved it. V creepy modern frankenstein but shit ending. Why didnt she send him back to the manufacturer?

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:06:31

Ah.. well that was a bit hmm

She had Ash locked up in the attic Sole, t'was her daughters birthday so she wanted to take him some cake..

ThatVikRinA22 Mon 11-Feb-13 23:07:14

is it available to download on sky on demand thingy? totally forgot about it....

NoelHeadbands Mon 11-Feb-13 23:07:38

Promised much but didn't deliver is my verdict.

Looking forward to next week's

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:09:46

Maybe they had a no returns policy ethelb smile

I expect so Vicar

I do seem to remember the last series had some good/ some bad episodes...So will watch next weeks too.

MarshaBrady Mon 11-Feb-13 23:11:11

Not that good, no where near last time. Hopefully next one is better.

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 23:12:36

Will never forget the PM and the pig episode !!

Looking forward to next weeks too !

IrrelevantElephant Mon 11-Feb-13 23:13:40

It was all a bit "meh" I thought. Nothing has topped the pig one yet!!

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 23:14:01

Oooh for the sex !! in the attic, good move!

IrrelevantElephant Mon 11-Feb-13 23:15:22

Oh jeez next week's one looks terrifying! I'll come back next week and be 10mins behind again, so can one of you come back and warn me of the scary bits again please!!

thenightsky Mon 11-Feb-13 23:15:44

I think she put him in the attic as a sort of reference to the way his mother had put all his brother's stuff in the attic when he'd died.

MsNobodyAgain Mon 11-Feb-13 23:17:18

It reminded me of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers.

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 23:17:31

Fab thread jelly smile

Will be here next week.

reliablemillipede Mon 11-Feb-13 23:19:42

thenightsky Yes, just realised that now.

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:20:34

Will do Elephant smile

Agree re. nothing topping the pig one.. yet.

I'll remind ya Sole i know what you're like grin

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 23:21:39

shock grin yeah you do! smile

MildlyMiserable Mon 11-Feb-13 23:21:43

She could at least have got him to help with the decorating before shoving him in the attic!

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:25:12

Agree mildly, a bit of colour wouldn't of gone amiss..

Am watching a the follow on prog. about naturism, feel like a weird voyeur!

SoleSource Mon 11-Feb-13 23:28:01

Some really tiny members, in that club.

Jellykat Mon 11-Feb-13 23:30:44

grin was actually thinking that too..

ethelb Mon 11-Feb-13 23:36:14

I really like the fairly neutral way charlie brooker writes gender roles but it didnt pass the bechdale test!

ujjayi Tue 12-Feb-13 15:11:45

Could someone tell me the ending please? I missed the last 15 mins. PM me if you don't want to put spoilers in the thread smile

MarshaBrady Tue 12-Feb-13 20:58:11

Hey Ujj, she put the fake guy in the attic. And he must have been there for years as she had a 7 year old ish dd. I got distracted at the crucial bit, however. Something to do with the daughter taking him cake.

ThatVikRinA22 Tue 12-Feb-13 22:24:03

he ended up in the attic - just like the photos of his brother after he died and his father after he died - (he explained that his mother had put the photos in the attic after they died) and so that ended up his fate too - just a slightly more modern take on a photo.....

i found it very sad actually and really thought provoking. he writes these really bizarre things that i wouldnt think of in a month of sundays - slightly futuristic but exploring what makes us human.....the onslaught of technology....i really liked it.

looking forward to next weeks.

TomArchersSausage Tue 12-Feb-13 22:32:59

I enjoyed it too - also the last series.

He certainly writes more originally than a lot of predictable tosh on tv.

Hammy02 Wed 13-Feb-13 10:24:46

I enjoyed it until the ending. I think it should've ended with her screaming on the top of the cliff. Although I do like Vicar's suggestion that putting him in the attic was like a modern take on a photo. I wasn't clever enough to interpret it that way grin

MarshaBrady Wed 13-Feb-13 10:26:28

I like the photo idea too. I just phased out towards the end which is a shame as that's where it all happened.

It was slower than the other ones, but the idea does still stick with you.

LeslieKnope Wed 13-Feb-13 10:27:50

I really enjoyed it. Clever, thought-provoking and wonderfully acted.

Wasn't completely sold on the ending but understood it in the same way Vicar did.

Had a bit of a giggle at Martha's transition from scruffy student type to glossy-haired, glam mum grin

I loved it. She couldn't bear to destroy him, but also couldn't live with him. So he's up in the attic, a living ghost, tying her to her grief. I thought it was a perfect ending.

piratecat Wed 13-Feb-13 10:39:03

i was scared, i really didn't like the man in the cool box bit. It really unnerved me, had to turn it over!! Came back to it when he was all moving about.

FloatyBeatie Wed 13-Feb-13 10:39:48

First part was ok, but as soon as she upgraded to the actual robot body the whole story was entirely unoriginal -- a rehash of Spielberg's film about the little robot Pinocchio.

The idea that we might develop software that trawled our splashing of ourselves on the internet so effectively that it could throw back a perfect shadow self is a great one. Very intriguing, and a disturbingly small stone's throw from the commercial trawling of online selves that is already done. But I don't think Brooker did anything at all beyond just articulating that initial intriguing idea. I suppose that's why he's a columnist and a panel show presenter rather than a playwright.

I thought there was more to it than an idea actually.
It was a comment on living your life through social media, rather than reality. That was clearly signposted with his smartphone addiction whilst still alive. The idea that 'you' could be recreated from your online presence is interesting (particularly liked the scene where she said he looked well and he reasoned that you only upload flattering pictures of yourself). But ultimately, the message was that there's no depth to it, that you can only reveal so much of yourself online, and what you do reveal is merely a version of yourself, not the complete package.

Herrena Wed 13-Feb-13 21:37:50

DH has pointed out that the name 'Ash' may be a nod in the direction of the human-looking robot in Alien.....

Jellykat Wed 13-Feb-13 21:58:44

Oooh yes..
(You've got a clever DH there Herrena!)

Jellykat Wed 13-Feb-13 22:01:06

I would also completely agree with Lulas theory.

Cooroo Fri 15-Feb-13 16:10:23

reliablemillipede - I always wrap broken glass in lots of newspaper, otherwise anyone handling the rubbish could get cut.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 21:53:24

Anyone gonna watch tonights episode?

MarshaBrady Mon 18-Feb-13 21:55:58

Oh my was about to go to bed. You reminded me it was on!

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:00:20

I know.. got a thumping headache, i should retire for the night, but the trailer looked good hmm

OddBoots Mon 18-Feb-13 22:00:31

Tonight's looks pretty scary! [TheIsNoSmilieToSuit]

MarshaBrady Mon 18-Feb-13 22:01:31

Yep am going for it, just saw the end of embarrassing bodies waiting for it to start, cripes.

IrrelevantElephant Mon 18-Feb-13 22:02:26

Agree- tonight's looks v scary, masks and all!! I'll watch it in a bit after you've all discussed it first so I know what is coming grin

NoelHeadbands Mon 18-Feb-13 22:03:39

Recording tonight's I'm afraid, far too knacked to do it justice sad

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:05:30

Looking forward to this.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:05:56

Elephant grin

I thought my freview box had buggered up then.. phew!

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:06:33

oops, freeview

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:08:53

I'm already scared shock

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:09:14

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:11:26

Very weird...

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:14:02

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:15:13

Similiar to the wicker man madks

I love unpredictable stuff like this!

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:15:25

A bit Hunger Gamesy?

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:20:45

Missed the beginning. I like everyone filming stuff on their phones.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:26:26

I'd be the mad pinny clad, electric carving knife lady..

Oops a daisy!!!! confused

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:27:45

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:27:56

oh god this is scary.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:28:14

Indeed Sole!

AmberLeaf Mon 18-Feb-13 22:28:58

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:29:29

This is horrible. Charlie Brooker's mind is a scary, scary place.

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:29:31

Driller killer!

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:30:08

You lot are wimps!

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:32:36

Mr Brookers very good observation re. the voyeurs and there bloody phones.. that's only a slight exaggeration on RL these days. IMO.

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:33:39

Very true Jellykat smile

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:33:42

Electric carving lady reminds me of the Wickerman May day parade.

Did they say that people just started doing whatever they wanted, they are acting alone not part of some evil army? Charlie Brooker really hates people!

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:37:16

They're united in that they have no moral code as individuals i guess..

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:39:49

Indeed Jellycat. I'm sure I remember a rant on newswipe, or possibly one of his columns about people detaching themselves from events when they view them through their phones.

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:40:32

Ok I actually did LOL at shotgun of confetti.

garlicbreeze Mon 18-Feb-13 22:40:54

Oh, I LOVE these! I watched all the short films together, over Christmas, and am just on episode 2 of Utopia. They are genius - and gruesome, and provocative.

Just marking thread, to read after watching!

thenightsky Mon 18-Feb-13 22:41:06

Oh this is so weird confused

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:41:26

Ooh fantastic!

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:42:00

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:43:28

Yes MrsR, it's the same as porn / fetish. You are detaching yourself from actually physically having sex by viewing it, literally distancing yourself.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:44:47

Yes MrsReiver, i remember reading a case where a man had thrown himself off the first floor of a shopping arcade, and security had trouble getting to him as there were so many people taking pictures on their phones! shock

thenightsky Mon 18-Feb-13 22:46:26

Brilliant... loving it!

AmberLeaf Mon 18-Feb-13 22:46:30

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:47:19

Oh dark. This is horrid.

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:47:55

Oh my, I didn't see that coming.

thenightsky Mon 18-Feb-13 22:50:08

I'm feeling a wickerman style finish.....

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:51:26

Big brother style trials at court.

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:52:15

Brain erasing of memories??

AmberLeaf Mon 18-Feb-13 22:52:46

Groundhog day

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:56:17

Her punishment goes on

Love it!

SinisterBuggyMonth Mon 18-Feb-13 22:56:24

Infinate justice eh? Reminds me of a few MN threads recently...

MrsReiver Mon 18-Feb-13 22:56:25

Justice delivered with audience participation.

IrrelevantElephant Mon 18-Feb-13 22:56:29

SoleSource Mon 18-Feb-13 22:57:58

Futuristic method of punishing criminals as an activity.

PirateHat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:58:08

Well that explains why they are all filming it and why they don't help.

expatinscotland Mon 18-Feb-13 22:58:16

That is trippin.

AmberLeaf Mon 18-Feb-13 22:58:17

Yes SinisterBuggy!

I think its a horrible concept.

Jellykat Mon 18-Feb-13 22:58:31

Wow.. very very thought provoking as always... She ended up as the victim even though she'd filmed the little girl..
But yes also very Big Brotheresque.

AnotherFineMess Mon 18-Feb-13 22:58:34

SO clever - totally captures the mood of many of the comments on social networking sites...I am always shocked at how many people offer to dole out gruesome punishments themselves...he has tapped into that well.

SchmancyPants Mon 18-Feb-13 23:13:03

I always plan to watch Black Mirror but then get too freaked out and have to turn over sad I switched over at the point when they were in the clearing in the woods and saw the women hanging. Could anyone sum up the rest briefly for me please?

ethelb Mon 18-Feb-13 23:17:30

Brilliant but terrifying. It was like a satire of Derren Brown crossed with A Clockwork Orange at the end.

Honestly one if the scariest things I have ever seen was about to turn it off at the clearing in the woods bit

How does Charlie do it?

ethelb Mon 18-Feb-13 23:18:24

@shmancy shall i pm you? It would be a massive massive spoiler

SchmancyPants Mon 18-Feb-13 23:19:38

That would be great Ethel, yes please! Don't want to spoil it for anyone else.

SinisterBuggyMonth Mon 18-Feb-13 23:25:27

I know I'm going to be thinking about that for ages.

OddBoots Tue 19-Feb-13 06:43:44

I chickened out of watching in the end but I've just read up on it on wiki. YOu really can see why it is called Black Mirror, it really does reflect the darkest parts of humanity.

MarshaBrady Tue 19-Feb-13 09:29:02

It was quite good. I liked the ending as I found the first part hammy anyway.

I like the part at the end were they did the out takes and the presenter was all upbeat the most.

MarshaBrady Tue 19-Feb-13 09:29:15

liked and where!

TwllBach Tue 19-Feb-13 18:53:45

I've skimmed the last couple of posts because I'm watching it on sky plus.

I'm on the bit where she is being tied to the tree and he's got a gun out.

This is really not nice, I am just about terrified! I might have to watch home and away after, to make myself feel better!

fiddlemethis Tue 19-Feb-13 18:54:30

I loved this, I watched last nights and I'm still feeling the chills from it. Who is this Charlie Brookers chap? It was very thought provoking. I'm looking forward to next weeks already!

TwllBach Tue 19-Feb-13 18:55:19

Oh crap, did she kill her little girl??

TwllBach Tue 19-Feb-13 19:00:12

Whaaaaaaat the actual Jeff?????

OddBoots Tue 19-Feb-13 19:01:33

Charlie Brooker has had a few series of the satirical 'News/Games/2012/2013 Wipe' programmes, at the moment he has Weekly Wipe Thus nights on BBC2, they are worth a watch.

Jellykat Tue 19-Feb-13 19:39:06

Twllbach Exactly!

TwllBach Tue 19-Feb-13 20:10:33

I was genuinely revolted by it, but in a I-want-to-see-more-of-his-stuff kind of way, because I can see it happening, IYSWIM?

I saw the lost series and his zombie/big brother film and loved those. These seem to be darker though.

NicholasTeakozy Tue 19-Feb-13 21:04:22

Thanks for starting this thread. I watched it last night and thought it was bloody frightening, a real dystopian view of future justice. Good though, and the casting was inspired. I'm definitely looking forward to the next instalment.

HappyJustToBe Tue 19-Feb-13 21:12:48

I am looking forward to and dreading the next one. It is extremely thought provoking.

The reason why it is so horrifying it that it's sort of plausible. I was appalled and yet at the same time thinking that it wouldn't take much to guide a crowd of people into this sort of behaviour, especially when I read some of the comments people post on Facebook and as a response to online news articles.

MarshaBrady Tue 19-Feb-13 21:36:19

The last part where he is telling them just to have fun is great.

MarshaBrady Tue 19-Feb-13 21:36:52

In a twisted way, but it was clever how he swapped to cheery presenter so well.

Oodsigma Tue 19-Feb-13 22:12:32

Just watched it. Agreeing with everyone else.

whateveritakes Tue 19-Feb-13 22:44:00

Turned it off after the drill scene in the woods. Too many people have had horrors like that in real life.

But I want to know the ending.....!!!

ByTheSea Tue 19-Feb-13 23:36:40

Just watched it. Creepy! I love Charlie Brooker. fiddlemethis Charlie Brooker's been writing for the Guardian since way back when he used to do telly and game reviews.

MrsReiver Wed 20-Feb-13 11:51:18

ThreeBeeOneGee DH were talking about that afterwards, it's all too easy to believe that there would be a market for something like this in real life.

Littleturkish Wed 20-Feb-13 15:35:29

Oh wow.

So- first episode, I loved the idea of being able to create a virtual you based on your online contributions...especially as Ash was too nice: a softened, Disney, rom com version of himself. The better sex, the prettier face, the inability to engage in conflict.

Also- she put him in the attic like his mother did with his photos of his dead father...

Second episode- mob mentality, hypocrisy of those who abhor the violence of others and then wish equally gross and violent acts on those that were violent.

I wonder if the whole thing was her own personal hell that she'd created, it was everything that she hated about herself?

Very thought provoking!

smuffin Wed 20-Feb-13 16:20:48

Oh my the last episode of black mirror was terrible!

smuffin: what do you mean by terrible? I thought it was quite good.

The 13 year old has asked to watch the White Bear episode. Thoughts?

Oodsigma Wed 20-Feb-13 20:08:32

Hmm interesting one. Could be a good discussion but depends on the 13 yo. Mine is quite naive & wouldn't get it.

TwllBach Wed 20-Feb-13 20:10:41

I think that, at 13, I would have really liked to watch it but I think it would have really upset me if I did.

Jellykat Wed 20-Feb-13 20:20:03

Depends on the 13 year old IMO

I think he would understand it, but I'm worried that he might find it a bit disturbing, especially the implications of the last five/ten minutes.

Jellykat Wed 20-Feb-13 21:35:50

Tricky then, maybe let him see it in an afternoon, and have a good chat about what it's saying afterwards?

I thought it was very, very disturbing - and unfortunately I've read some horrid threads on here where people appear to want to torture child murderers.

Jellykat Wed 20-Feb-13 21:53:56

On here Laurie?

Rollergirl1 Wed 20-Feb-13 22:34:50

I've just watched it and I thought it was utterly dreadful.

You people likening it to Big Brother mentality, I'm sorry I just don't get that!

"And above all have fun!". Where's the "fun" in a child being abducted and murdered? I usually like Charlie Brooker but this just smacked of something that a film student would do.

MrsReiver Thu 21-Feb-13 08:47:07

But the whole point of Black Mirror is that it's "utterly dreadful" and "horrible" and uncomfortable to watch. There's absolutely no suggestion that Charlie Brooker thinks it's fun to torture murderers confused

SinisterBuggyMonth Thu 21-Feb-13 14:41:37

I think your missing the point a bit. Black Mirror - dark reflection, its a twisted view of society. Not saying it would happen but a trawl through recent history, not too mention some if the more upsetting Mn threads suggest that if it did some people would partake and have fun. The only thing they didnt represent was those who would be against it.

PumpkinAndHoneyBunny Thu 21-Feb-13 14:42:24

rollergirl the "and above all have fun" is aimed at the baying crowd, not unlike a big brother baying crowd booing and out for blood when a housemate is evicted. The quote isn't meant to show it's "fun" for a child being abducted or murdered, it's meant to be a statement on mob mentality and how far society as a group can go. I think the quote is quite poignant as i do belive that given the chance a large chunck of society would behave in this manner if given a "legitmate" enough reason. With BB this kind of behaviour is justified by the statement "it's all panitmine".

Yes, what the last three posters said. The drama is meant to highlight the mass hysteria that can occur when people think it's acceptable to take justice into their own hands.

I think the title 'Black Mirror' refers to the tv screen when it's switched off.

garlicbreeze Thu 21-Feb-13 18:53:20

Fantastic and horribly close to believable.

Public humiliation (filmed for TV) was part of Shena Hardin's sentence in Ohio. To catch her, police set up a fake situation with cameras. Report with two videos.

I can't watch Big Brother because it reminds me of this sort of thing! BB isn't "all pantomime", those are real people being their real selves both inside and outside the house.

Black Mirror can mean a lot of things, not least that the film holds a mirror up to our own darker sides.

I thought it was called 'Black Mirror' because the common theme is technology (screen = black mirror) and how our use of it reflects human nature.

god almighty.
just watched the second one -charlie is good isnt he? that one was disturbing.

ItsOkayItsJustMyBreath Mon 25-Feb-13 11:24:43

I love CB's work, he is so insightful it's disturbing.

I thought that the timing of the White Bear one was very apt due to the photos of Jon Venables and Robert Thompson (allegedly) appearing on social media sites. Sadly, I don't think it is too far away from reality hence it's ability to be so upsetting.

CruCru Mon 25-Feb-13 21:22:18

Anyone watching tonight?

MarshaBrady Mon 25-Feb-13 21:25:19

Yes this the last one, bah. Hope it's good.

thenightsky Mon 25-Feb-13 21:28:35

Yes... definitely watching this at 10pm.

Jellykat Mon 25-Feb-13 21:50:01

Jellykat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:12:52

AmberSocks Mon 25-Feb-13 22:13:35

dontwanttobefatandforty Mon 25-Feb-13 22:14:21

MarshaBrady Mon 25-Feb-13 22:20:50

Awful so far.

Jellykat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:22:26

Reckon he'd get done for some 'obscenity in a public place' type thing there..

dontwanttobefatandforty Mon 25-Feb-13 22:28:08

tempted to just go to bed!

Jellykat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:34:18

Am going to stick with it, it's getting darker..

PirateHat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:34:37

Waldo is a bit crap isn't he? I am presuming he's meant to be? (hopefully)

Feel very sorry for him being jilted.

SignoraStronza Mon 25-Feb-13 22:38:50

Continuing to watch, if only because labour candidate looks absolutely identical to someone I used to know!

PirateHat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:53:09

oooh that's got him.

"What's this? Irony?"

baskingseals Mon 25-Feb-13 22:53:58

i am a bit late to the party, but could anybody talk to me about the significance of the compere/torturer putting a photo of the little girl in the larger photo of the girl and her boyfriend.

i thought it suggested an ambiguity about whether she was actually her daughter. also some of the memory foogate of the little girl showed her looking happy and relaxed in the car.

PirateHat Mon 25-Feb-13 22:57:55

He's read 1984 then?

Jellykat Mon 25-Feb-13 23:06:54

basking.. That was last weeks.. but i thought the putting the photo back in the frame was purely to help reinact the groundhog day element. I don't think the victim was her daughter from what i remember..

Well just 'hmm' to this weeks, didn't hit me with any great thought provoking revelations.. shame.

PirateHat Mon 25-Feb-13 23:06:54

basking, I think it's just to set up the idea in the woman's head. It is plausible they (the killers) got the photo and kept it as a momento but bascially it's to fuck with her head so she thinks she's lost her daughter, to make a better set up.

There is a scene of a different couple doing an appeal for the lost girl so I think it's clear those are her parents. The bits about her looking happy struck me too but I wondered if that was just a bit of mis-judged writing, the niavety of someone who doesn't have children of that age, not realising that children would most likely not be happy to be in a strange place with strange people for days.

I suppose it's possible they've made it all up but all the voyuers wouldn't have a reason to go along with it if they hadn't seen the story of the girl going missing, capture of the couple, the trial etc.

PirateHat Mon 25-Feb-13 23:09:31

I see what he's getting at this week but the jump from local by-election to taking over the world was a bit quick. I think they should have gone into the "do you speak Spanish?" stuff more.

baskingseals Mon 25-Feb-13 23:09:45

oh yes i forgot about the tv interview.

thanks for replying. it was very powerful stuff.

bottleofbeer Mon 25-Feb-13 23:27:34

White Bear was bloody brilliant.

Waldo was shite.

twitchycurtains Tue 26-Feb-13 13:20:48

First one was very interesting, white bear was horrific to watch, I really don't think we are far off that sort of thing actually happening. Waldo was the worst- I lost interest halfway through, even tried watching it on +1 but still didnt manage to get to the end.

Jellykat Tue 26-Feb-13 19:41:08

Interesting to see party made up of stand up comedians has done very well in the Italian elections today!

Adds a new rl spooky slant on clever Mr Brookers Waldo story..

I thought Waldo was the weakest episode but actually closest to the truth of things at the moment.

bottleofbeer Tue 26-Feb-13 23:13:15

The character Waldo itself wasn't at all amusing and considering he was supposed to be comic genius the whole thing just didn't work for me.

MarshaBrady Wed 27-Feb-13 07:24:52

Waldo was too repulsive. Not sure he really had to be for it to work.

Update: I watched The Waldo Moment again with the 13 year old (he asked me to jump ahead past the sex scene grin) and he showed a mature understanding of what was going on. He then watched Be Right Back on his own and showed the same level of understanding. I have told him he can watch White Bear this morning, while the younger ones are out at music school.
