pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:04:42

Gran's 38!? Thats not much older than me... I feel old now!

Sparklingbrook Wed 09-Jan-13 21:04:59

38. I feel old all of a sudden..........

38 you say?

LivingThings Wed 09-Jan-13 21:05:41

XBenedict Wed 09-Jan-13 21:06:36

38 - she's 4 years younger than me! I had DD2 at 38. I feel old!

Sparklingbrook Wed 09-Jan-13 21:06:44

I am older than the Gran and DS 2 was 11 today. sad

CunningPlan Wed 09-Jan-13 21:06:55

And I'm in. DH wanted to watch the last few minutes of Death In Paradise on iplayer. Who is this one? I missed the very beginning.

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 21:07:13

if the Mum is 38, how old is she? I missed it, trying to stop DS rolling off my bed

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:07:45

She's 20

I love my Mum but there's no way I would have had her as my birth partner.

Straight to the point inneat I like that.

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 21:09:55

20, she's the same age my Mum was when she had me

CunningPlan Wed 09-Jan-13 21:09:58

Good god. I feel old - I'm closer to the Mum's age and I haven't had any DCs yet.

BillyBollyBrandy Wed 09-Jan-13 21:10:03

Love that she said they were inseperable apart from when they broke up grin

I'm not keen on him. Glad she has her mum there

pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:10:10

Me either Sparkling There would be murder! smile

IAmLouisWalsh Wed 09-Jan-13 21:10:19

I would rather have a random person off the street than my mother with me when giving birth!

AuntPepita Wed 09-Jan-13 21:10:39

Only 4 years older than me. Wow I look good by comparison!

BillyBollyBrandy Wed 09-Jan-13 21:10:41

My DM refused to be my birthing partner

FoofFighter Wed 09-Jan-13 21:11:05

Do condoms really and honestly split? Shame if they felt the need to over exaggerate how she conceived, it's not anyone's business is it?

Mum seems quite domineering, the "babydaddy" hmm should be there.

BarnYardCow Wed 09-Jan-13 21:11:13

I "forgot" a pill on Dd1!

Aunt I am older and was going to post the same thing but bottled out. I will hang off your tail now with that one.

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 21:11:56

me too Sparkling my Mum would be a nightmare, re-living all her 5 birth experiences through me which she did anyway over the phone from 130 miles away

DesperatelySeekingSedatives Wed 09-Jan-13 21:12:24

I am so glad I didnt let my mum in the delivery room with us! I love her loads but just no..... TBH I don't think dad is going to get a look in with baby if he isnt even allowed at the birth (thats the impression I got anyway). Bet granny will be in the thick of it all the time. At least thats the impression I get. Or maybe I'm projecting? My mum would have been like that given half the chance! (she'd never admit it tho!)

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 21:13:08

I a here!

I thought the 'we were inseparable apart from when we split up' was funny too.

I also think the 'she forgot her pill and the comdom split' may not be strictly factual. <cynical in a nonjudgmental way>

moomoomar Wed 09-Jan-13 21:13:11

Why has she told him not to come? sad

blondiep14 Wed 09-Jan-13 21:14:07

Checking in!

DH has gone to play football so I can watch it without him moaning all the way thru it, or watching football on the iPad next to me.

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:14:51

Wow, it's the hair-bear bunch!

BillyBollyBrandy Wed 09-Jan-13 21:16:05

No way would I let my Mum in the delivery room. She'd have stressed me right out.

The head piercing, how does that work?

moomoomar Wed 09-Jan-13 21:17:57

Billy me and DH had only been together a year and 2 weeks when our first dc was born. We have been together 10 years now!!

I mean how does it stay in?

sailorsgal Wed 09-Jan-13 21:18:47

She's running out of Skin! grin

WidowWadman Wed 09-Jan-13 21:18:56

Orenishii Wed 09-Jan-13 21:19:01

I always get jealous now, of the women on OBEM - them and their contractions and going into labour and stuff.

I say this with a snoozing 10 week old on my lap.

Haha to the condom splitting / forgotten pill - what a combo grin

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:19:14

hmm about the ectopic.

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:19:36

Bloody hell, pregnant after 6 w together and then it being ectopic, they've been through a lot already

ggirl Wed 09-Jan-13 21:19:59

his face doesn't suit that beard and hair ..he has an intelligent face

IAmLouisWalsh Wed 09-Jan-13 21:20:01

I wondered about the head piercing too!

Sparklingbrook Wed 09-Jan-13 21:20:24

You may as well just glue the head piercing on.

Don't be laughing at me, I am a strictly square Home Counties girl.

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:21:25

Why did they keep the other girl in at 1-2 cm and send this one home at 2cm?

Thanks widow I am off to google.

BillyBollyBrandy Wed 09-Jan-13 21:21:51

I like him, he'll be a good dad <channels Justin Topper>

IAmLouisWalsh Wed 09-Jan-13 21:22:03

You'd need more than a bloody lavender bag....grin

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 21:22:38

How old is this one with her mum?

XBenedict Wed 09-Jan-13 21:22:45

I was thinking the same about the head piercing.

WidowWadman Wed 09-Jan-13 21:22:53

tough have a look on BME

ImKateandsoismywife Wed 09-Jan-13 21:23:21

I can't watch this show without getting angry, I wasn't allowed in until I was 10cm angry

NoelHeadbands Wed 09-Jan-13 21:24:06

How are you doing Boomboom do we need to fetch the hot water and towels yet? <hopeful>

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:24:13

She's 20.

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 21:24:57

bless her.
It does hurt.

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:26:20

It always seems to be the young ones on this show who make all the drama over the pain from early on or is it just me?

Do they just pick them more to make it interesting?

sailorsgal Wed 09-Jan-13 21:27:02

Why was the midwife sitting on the ball???

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:27:47

Why the hmm at the ectopic buffy?

CunningPlan Wed 09-Jan-13 21:28:09

Widow I have just spent a revolting very illuminating few minutes on Wikipedia.

envy <---- slightly nauseous face

FoofFighter Wed 09-Jan-13 21:28:09

Bowing out as the judgy bitchy comments about appearance, piercings and hmm ectopic are pissing me off.

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:29:34

Sad that she lost the baby through an ectopic pregnancy. Must be horrible to go through.

DD was up every hour last night so apologies if any posts aren't making sense!

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:30:43

I was 19 when I had ds. Watching that girl brings back the panic to me all over again sad. I'm shitting myself. I'm due with third dc in July. Fucking hate vaginal exams and I refuse them.

WidowWadman Wed 09-Jan-13 21:30:49

buffy - "making all the drama" FFS - to some it bloody hurts. Stupid judginess.

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:31:16

Oh right Buffy I see.

Losing a baby, no matter how early is awful sad

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:31:24

Did I use the wrong emoticon or something? Definitely not making judgey, bitchy comments about ectopic pregnancies. I'd be mortified if someone thought I was.

Winterwardrobetime Wed 09-Jan-13 21:31:28

The mother (grandmother to be) is only 3 years older than me. I was having a wobble earlier about feeling old, frumpy etc etc since having my babies who are 4 and 2 but in comparison I am hot (well not really but you get my drift) wink

GroupieGirl Wed 09-Jan-13 21:31:52

I had my mum as my birth partner. She was pretty good. Except for the two times she nipped home to give my dad his dinner

Eh? I was genuinely interested.

Oreocrumbs Wed 09-Jan-13 21:31:57

I'm watching and I'm going against the grain for having your mum as your birth partner.

When I had DD my DM drove us to hospital and was just meant to drop us off but my DP, despite trying to help was bloody useless, so I asked her to stay!

DM knew just what to do, and sat for hours in the room with us, her on her hands and knees rubbing my back and me hanging off DP's neck, resisting the urge to throttle him.

She was brilliant when DD was born though too, she imediatley withdrew to the otherside of the room and left just me and DP with the baby - she isn't a pushy woman.

I wouldn't want him not to be there, but as far as the better birth partner goes, my Mum was brilliant. I really want them both again if there is another DC.

AmandaPayne Wed 09-Jan-13 21:32:27

Buffy - to me labour early on was absolute, brutal agony. The final bit, and the pushing. All the bits I was allowed to make a fuss over, I was fine, it didn't hurt and I was quite quiet. Different people are different.

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:31

<cries with fear of vaginal exams and pushy midwives>

XBenedict Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:41

Me too Tough, I couldn't work out (still can't) how it sits there but no judging over here! smile

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:51

Widow - yep, fair enough, that was a bad turn of phrase.

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:52

Sam's mum is lovely, so excited & jolly about the whole thing

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:58

<cries with fear of vaginal exams and pushy midwives>

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:33:59

I don't think these women 'put it on' more because they're younger. If it hurts, it hurts. That's it.

Often, younger women's bodies have stronger muscles because they're younger, so the contractions are stronger. Not all the time, but that's what the midwife told me smile

NoelHeadbands Wed 09-Jan-13 21:34:03

I love seeing the mums flapping and fussing about grin

I can't imagine what I'll be like if/when my DD goes into labour. A nervous wreck probably

PrincessMononoke Wed 09-Jan-13 21:34:05

Oh dear the sickness, Poor thing.

AmandaPayne Wed 09-Jan-13 21:34:21

<Holds Waynetta's hand in sympathy and rocks quietly at the memory>

pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:34:45

My contractions at 3cm were double peaking.. MW couldn't understand why things weren't progressing. DD was back to back and stuck. sad
I was in agony!

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:35:49

I love that midwife soooo much, the dark haired one with the lovely accent.

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:35:56

buffy the hmm emoticon shows doubt as in 'hmm, what a load of rubbish' or expressing disbelief. It's best to use the sad emotion like this sad to show you are feeling compassion, hurt or sadness. smile

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:36:40

Oh she's been through so much sad Her and her poor mum.

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:14

Which poor souls of you vomited in labour ? I can't think of anything worse except vaginal exams. My deepest sympathy cos it just looks so awful sad

AmandaPayne Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:15

Aw, what a lovely mum.

NoelHeadbands Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:19

I'm getting quite emotional at this story.

There hasn't even been a birth yet!

PrincessMononoke Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:28

It's lovely to see them so close now though.

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:33

oh this music brings tears to my eyes

<needs to get a grip>

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:37:51

Waaaah! "I've always loved her... I'm very very proud of Sam"

Smoky in here innit?

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:38:08

Oh ruby me too sad

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:38:32

Oh Christ blush

I honestly thought downturned face was sad. Using the iPhone app. Thanks for explaining.

PrincessMononoke Wed 09-Jan-13 21:38:37

Yes I have got something in my eye.

Orenishii Wed 09-Jan-13 21:38:40

piglechez i was pretty much the same only i was induced so the contractions started at 90 seconds apart!

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:39:09

The gas & air made me vomit so I couldn't use it sad

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:39:17

<waves at Noel from BIWI's low carb thread> grin

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 21:39:32

Those grannies to be are younger than me!

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:39:55

That's ok buffy don't sweat it smile easy done, you know now.

ggirl Wed 09-Jan-13 21:39:58

pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:40:22

NoelHeadbands Wed 09-Jan-13 21:40:25

<waves back> yoohoo! grin

Orenishii Wed 09-Jan-13 21:40:29

OMG the mother:"I want to be the one to cut the cord"

AmandaPayne Wed 09-Jan-13 21:40:53

Ooh, that mum needs to step back. It's not her baby.

Hmm I clocked that too. Hmm again.

BillyBollyBrandy Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:10

I vomited with both. Had a d&v bug with dd2 envy

I did however projectile vomit all over dh when given gas and air. The only moment of light relief grin

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:17

Ooooh I remember that desperate moaning sad

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:35

Oren same here re: induction contractions, had flashbacks for a week sad. From 1st pains to birth was 2 hours in total, not as great as it sounds

pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:38

pegster I hated the gas and air too.. made me feel awful!

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:40

I can see that dad being totally sidelined and pissing off in a few months.

sailorsgal Wed 09-Jan-13 21:41:43

Bloody hell I wasn't been bitchy about the tattoos, I was just fascinated by them.

Winterwardrobetime Wed 09-Jan-13 21:42:04

The sickness. Poor girl. I was sick for all 30 hours of my labour and afterwards too with DS. I remember going into the delivery room and seeing the sick bowls and thinking what the hell are they for and after about 6 hours I'd used them all and went through a lot lot more of them.

That's one for kirstie allsopp and her NCT thing, no one ever told me I might be sick... I ended up with a EMCS and was sick throughout that too, but sick and numb is really vile too. Poor anaethnastist (sp) as I didnt know I was going to be sick, he got covered.

Orenishii Wed 09-Jan-13 21:42:05

We should have got on the toilet, pigleychez!

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:42:19

"Slow down a bit?!" You're having a baby together! grin

DesperatelySeekingSedatives Wed 09-Jan-13 21:42:24

Agree ggirl poor bastard wont get a look in sad mum needs to take a step back but she wont. She's pushy as fuck.

The other family seem lovely. Mum is so supportive I'm quite jealous. Maybe its clever editing but she doesnt seem anywhere near as pushy!

WaynettaSlobsLover Wed 09-Jan-13 21:42:41

Fuck fuck fuckkkkkkkkk why am I preg again?????? It's going to come out my fanjo again!!!!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives Wed 09-Jan-13 21:43:26

I snorted at that too slatternly grin

pigleychez Wed 09-Jan-13 21:43:30

Ruby . I was 27 hours of constant contractions. So glad DD2 was the opposite! 0-10cm in 2 hours!

AmandaPayne Wed 09-Jan-13 21:43:33

Is that birth stool thing made out of a Didymos sling. Looks like mine.

slatternlymother Wed 09-Jan-13 21:43:56

BuffyFairyTopsTheTree Wed 09-Jan-13 21:58:57

Every family needs a bit of crazy.

I love this!

PatFenis Wed 09-Jan-13 21:59:35

Oh well a big fat tear dropped out of each of my eyes when Sams mum thankedthem for sharing their experience - what a lovely family!

IAmLouisWalsh Wed 09-Jan-13 21:59:51

Sam's mum was ace.

pegster Wed 09-Jan-13 21:59:59

See you all next week!

MrsDeVere Wed 09-Jan-13 22:00:00

I want another baby.

PatFenis Wed 09-Jan-13 22:00:35

I cried like a little girl when my grandson was born. It only felt like yesterday that I had his mum.

ScubaSarah Wed 09-Jan-13 22:00:37

I shouldn't be watching - firstly I've sobbed my heart out and secondly, at 10+3 with DC1 I'm wondering what the fucking hell I'm going to do in 29 weeks time :-|
I hope I'm braver than I think I am - I don't want the epidural but I bet I'm asking for it with BH!

sailorsgal Wed 09-Jan-13 22:01:07

that hour went quickly!

BarnYardCow Wed 09-Jan-13 22:01:43

Nighty nights!

beingginger Wed 09-Jan-13 22:01:46

I'd love another baby, but a toddler not so much <eyes evil genius 2 year old ds2>

XBenedict Wed 09-Jan-13 22:02:47

Me too MrsDeVere

sailorsgal Wed 09-Jan-13 22:03:53

I should be on this next programme. Midlife crisis. blush

RubyLovesMayMay Wed 09-Jan-13 22:05:25

Scuba you'll be fine, honestly. you just get on with. you'll be bricking it like the rest of us but you remember what its all for and its so worth it.

blondieminx Wed 09-Jan-13 22:11:23

Scuba YY, what Ruby said, FWIW I watched OBEM while pg with DD and psyched myself up for the worst... actually I had a 12 hour labour on gas and air! They tend to show the unusual/interesting births and family set ups.

firawla Wed 09-Jan-13 22:11:46

i should stop watching obem, it is making me way too broody!! awww those 2 little babies - gorgeous. remembering the pain does not put me off!
sam's mum was lovely
found the other couple hilarious, 'inseperable apart from when they split up'!
that mum was too much tho

ScubaSarah Wed 09-Jan-13 22:44:05

Thanks Ruby and Blondie
I guess if you prepare for the worst it's liable to be better, right?! :-)

TandB Wed 09-Jan-13 22:54:05

I want another one. Bollocks. I thought I was over babies. DP wants a third and now I think I do too!

I'm not sure how it is possible to get broody watching OBEM while running up and down the stairs hissing "shhhhhh you little bugger" at DS2 who keeps standing up in his cot going "waaaaabababababaBA!"

Maybe I could just have a loan of a little squishy new one for a while....

blondieminx Wed 09-Jan-13 22:55:53

that was my plan, Scuba, and it panned out ok! grin

olympicvibes Wed 09-Jan-13 23:02:42

Just blubbed eyes out watching 4+1. Is it sane to watch OBEM while pregnant with first?!

I am Olympicvibes!
No comment on whether its sane or not. I keep trying to get DH to watch it so he knows what to expect but he's not having it!

I also watched it when pg with DS, olympic. I made DH watch it too so he could have an idea about what was coming. That was actually quite useful, he found so too.

makes me feel broody too.

olympicvibes Fri 11-Jan-13 18:22:21

He was in the same room but had head stuck in book. Maybe next week he'll dare to look at the screen..I find it totally fascinating, but taking mental notes too and so wishing our hosp has similar room with all the same active labour gadgetry.
