I don't find him amusing in the slightest. I cannot stomache the sight of him. He gets paid lots of money for being a complete moron.

NigellasGuest Sat 01-Dec-12 10:57:47

No you are not!
That makes two of us!

vodkaanddietirnbru Sat 01-Dec-12 11:05:24

does my head in too

frozendewdrop Sat 01-Dec-12 11:11:42

Glad it's not just me. I don't understand how he is as popular as he is. Plenty of people must like him for him to be on telly. He is revolting

He is truly a knob!!!

Trazzletoes Sat 01-Dec-12 11:28:19

Honestly? I don't find him remotely funny. I would switch the tv off rather than watch him. BUT he won a shed load of money on Million Pound Drop for the charity that supports the ward where DS is treated and for that, I quite love Leigh Francis.

I hate, hate, hate him

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 11:34:20

I thought he was funny in an ironic way at first (for about 5 minutes). He wasn't quite so sexist and obnoxious at first, he just acted more like a complete buffoon (which he clearly is not)

However, the sexism and disrespectful language about women has escalated...presumably in direct connection to what his audience wants. Which is shit.

Topsyturnip Sat 01-Dec-12 11:37:50

Jimmy Savile raised loads of money for charity too and look what kind of bastard he turned out to be.

I hate Keith Lemon / LeighFrancis or whatever he likes to call himself. That advert where he opens his door to carol singers with his dressing gown open, supposedly baring all to see is supposed to be funny. it isn't.

MousyMouse Sat 01-Dec-12 11:42:24

yanbu
he is not funny (imo)
and his fake voice is making my teeth itch

donnie Sat 01-Dec-12 11:47:30

yes he is a ghastly talentless creep. I only watched his show once, a long time ago, and in it he sexually offended Holly W and Fearne C and made vulgar remarks about their breasts. To which they both simply giggled and waved their peroxide tresses about a lot. I still cannot grasp how that is good tv or acceptable behaviour .

Svrider Sat 01-Dec-12 11:48:57

I just don't get it
You are not alone op

duvetfan Sat 01-Dec-12 11:52:12

Makes my skin crawl. I get so angry when he is on tv, that I switch channel or switch off. I refuse to watch him.

He makes my skin crawl.

CindySherman Sat 01-Dec-12 11:58:15

About as funny as noro virus.

I can't fathom the show where he insults his female guests and they laugh heartily along. The misogyny in his "act" is palpable.

So glad I found this thread - I can't stand him and don't think he is remotely funny.

Labootin Sat 01-Dec-12 12:00:56

I used to think he was mildly amusing a few years ago now not so much.
That said I don't think anyone would pay good money to see me crack a few wrong 'uns so fair play to him ...someone must like his humour

Labootin Sat 01-Dec-12 12:03:00

I should add a caveat .. I haven't lived in the UK for three years so TBH I think irrc I saw about 10 mins of him about a year ago when I was back for a visit.

BrawToken Sat 01-Dec-12 12:04:43

He is a total knob

wintera Sat 01-Dec-12 13:41:09

I can't stand him and I think he goes so far over the line when talking to or about women on the show. Also hate how loads of young lads say 'I'd smash her back doors in' nowadays as well. My teenage nephew and his pals all say it when they see a good looking girl and it knocks me sick. Absolutely hate that expression!

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly Sat 01-Dec-12 13:43:49

Sign me up!

I find the character revolting. Not at all funny and from what I can see, people laugh at not with him. And much of the laughter is fake and / or from embarrassment.

He makes me cringe and I just turn over. I honestly don't understand what is funny about him. He's creepy as hell.

frozendewdrop Sat 01-Dec-12 14:19:32

OMG smashing her back doors in? Disgraceful! Is this what we are teaching the next generation? How to be totally disrespectful towards women? Why Holly W and Fearne C would find working with Keith Lemon funny is beyond me. Shameful. I think they're more interested in their bank balance than his so called humour. Why else would they 'work' with him? I don't get why anyone would laugh at him or with him. He is not funny. He is a disgrace!

QOD Sat 01-Dec-12 14:23:32

He is a character in the same way as Sacha Baron total utter prick Cohen is.

I do actually find him funny but then I love the Invbetweeners too

"Comedy" like "The Office" and infact anything by Ricky Gervaise leaves me utterly cold.

Different strokes for different folks

Sparklingbrook Sat 01-Dec-12 14:31:11

He is just an annoying character so he doesn't bother me, It's all an act and he's supposed to be vile isn't he?

I suspect Leigh Francis is probably a nice bloke.

swottynerd Sat 01-Dec-12 14:34:31

Thats what we have been "teaching the next generation" for years. Being a mysogynist and talking down to women or being crude about them is funny. It is entertainment. If you don't like it don't watch it! The women on his shows think it's funny so it's all good.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 14:37:50

It's not "all good" though when our younger generation are being influenced by this. Yes, I can switch it off but my teenagers think he is great angry

janelikesjam Sat 01-Dec-12 14:45:36

I think he is meant to be funny, rather than just vile. But he isn't funny IMO, just stupid and vile, especially to women. Being crude to women is now deemed to be perfectly acceptable in these shows and Holly W and Fearne C went along with it? (more talentless morons, jeez).

"Smash her back door in", you have got to be kidding - that is said on TV and amongst young men? If anyone ever said that in my presence, they would think very hard about saying it again (assuming they had any teeth left).

Sparklingbrook Sat 01-Dec-12 14:46:39

Don't anyone watch The Inbetweeners then if you are easily offended.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:01:53

My 12 yo said "smash her back doors in" the other week. It is really pervasive shit...it will be in the Oxford dictionary before we know it

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:04:18

I don't mind the Imbetweeners as much, because the protagonists are constantly operated as the immature tickets they are

Keith Lemon is just snide, nasty and old enough to know better

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:05:29

I meant portrayed

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:06:34

And fuckwits, not tickets

This bloody MN app

janelikesjam Sat 01-Dec-12 15:13:15

AFForAMincePie - the level of hatred and contempt of women in this expression is actually honestly shocking. I think I would cry if my DD mentioned that expression to me. If I ever overheard my son saying that or laughing at that, he would never forget my reaction.

janelikesjam Sat 01-Dec-12 15:14:03

p.s. As a middle-aged adult I have only heard that expression in the last 6 months somewhere (probably on MN mind hmm).

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:17:37

Jane, my reaction is something that day will never forget, rest assured

The thing is though, was simply parroting something he heard at school...he didn't really understand what he was sayinh

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sat 01-Dec-12 15:17:57

Ds, fgs

singingmum Sat 01-Dec-12 15:23:55

Hate hate hate this character and any mind that can imagine it. How utterly vile and annoying.
I truly cannot stand him and I only saw adverts(didn't know who it was at first) but it was more than enough for me to loathe. YUCK!!!!!

SecretNutellaFix Sat 01-Dec-12 15:24:55

cannot be doing with him.

AppleOgies Sat 01-Dec-12 15:33:15

You are not alone... He makes my skin crawl!

LaCiccolina Sat 01-Dec-12 15:35:27

He's (the person that plays him, I do realise he's not real!) the next jimmy Saville as far as I can tell. Makes my neck hair stand up. Far too rubby knees and phwoar for me. Gives me shivers....

SDTGisAChristmassyWolefGenius Sat 01-Dec-12 16:30:46

He makes my skin crawl too - I cannot comprehend how anyone finds him funny. Thank heaven I am not alone.

SecretNutellaFix Sat 01-Dec-12 16:37:14

Same as I cannot stand Reeves and Mortimer.

bamboostalks Sat 01-Dec-12 16:37:18

Foul sexist crap. Saw him in cafe in park in Grovelands Park and he was obnoxious to woman serving him.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Sat 01-Dec-12 16:39:02

I can't stand him either, makes my flesh crawl.

DyeInTheEar Sat 01-Dec-12 20:51:34

I like Inbetweeners - the series though not so much the film.

Keith Lemon does not make me laugh - at all, ever. Got nothing to do with being offended, a prude, not getting the joke etc. Just not funny or clever.

WhatTheFookIsGangnamStyle Sun 02-Dec-12 15:39:17

Ugh, I can't stand him either. He is a vulgar little man.

hiviolet Sun 02-Dec-12 18:53:11

You know he isn't real, right? It's an act, like Al Murray's Pub Landlord isn't real grin

Although, like the Pub Landlord, I expect the irony is lost on Keith Lemon's biggest fans because they're a bit thick

edam Sun 02-Dec-12 18:58:50

Can't stand him. Just do Not Get It At All and find the misogyny so wearing. Yadda yadda yadda it's been done before for more than 1,000 years and no, it's not clever and ironic, the people laughing think it's straight-up funny - at least half of them are missing the 'irony'. Comedians in the UK wouldn't dare to tell racist jokes claiming they are 'ironic' so why is it OK to tell sexist jokes?

(NB dh and I used to write comedy, never found the need to be sexist or racist or disablist - and some of the people we worked with have gone on to really great things without being any of those, either. Bill Bailey, for one.)

Jellykat Sun 02-Dec-12 19:21:43

He just gives me the creeps.
I can't see anything amusing in anything he's ever done or said.

No I get the idea but not a fan of chav male human. Keith Lemon is like what would happen if Jeremy Kyle did comedy.
I didn't get Bo Selecta either.
Much prefer Jack Whitehall and Russell Howard

LightHousekeeping Sun 02-Dec-12 19:46:11

Oh, I loved Bo Selecta! Can't stand Keith Lemmon though. Surely it's an age thing?

Please don't forget it is only an act I know for a fact that Leigh is a caring, charming family man.

DyeInTheEar Sun 02-Dec-12 20:39:39

I get that it's an act - obviously. I just don't get what's funny about it. And I can see that I may be missing out on something as he's obviously very popular but I just don't think he's that funny.

WhatTheFookIsGangnamStyle Sun 02-Dec-12 20:48:25

What caring, charming, family man needs to stoop so low? I think we have all established it is only an act The point is Leigh Francis aka Keith Lemon's vulgarity is completely unnecessary. He is not funny.

MrsJingleBells74 Sun 02-Dec-12 21:20:07

I don't get him either. I don't find him remotely funny.

Doinmummy Sun 02-Dec-12 21:25:45

I can't stand him either. Why does he always have a bandage on his hand?

GlitterySparklyBaublesOfDoom Sun 02-Dec-12 22:49:45

Well of course they're all in on it. You do realise that Holly W's husband is the producer of the show?

disparatefishwife Sun 02-Dec-12 22:49:56

I love and cringe at Sacha Baron Cohen characters and the inbetweeners but I loathe Keith lemon. I enjoyed a percentage of Bo selecta but I was horrified when I saw Keith lemon on This Morning and he kept banging on about chocolate starfish. I thought they'd never have him back after that performance but he's been on loads of times since.
I'm broadminded and have a filthy and at times sick sense of humour, I grew up reading Viz mag.
A lot of his appeal must be for teenagers and the stupid because he just comes across as desperate.

Devora Sun 02-Dec-12 22:54:53

You are SO far from being alone, OP.

I will never understand his appeal.

LightHousekeeping Sun 02-Dec-12 23:01:18

Do you think our parents thought that when we were into the Young Ones?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sun 02-Dec-12 23:31:53

my parents used to laugh their heads off at The Young Ones

another example of comedy taking the piss out of themselves ...and not directing it in a snide and nasty way to others

Devora Sun 02-Dec-12 23:32:40

I didn't like The Young Ones either smile

Devora Sun 02-Dec-12 23:32:50

[Born middle aged emoticon]

AnyFuckerForAMincePie Sun 02-Dec-12 23:33:35

grin

I love Young Ones, Not the 9 o'clock News, Red Dwarf and Billy Connolly. My dad used to hire the videos for us both to watch.

I don't like when they get all twattish to the audience though. Silly harmless and self depreciating comedy is my preferred option.

MrsJingleBells74 Tue 04-Dec-12 18:45:52

ITV2 has been advertising tonight is all Keith Lemon...dear meangry

Tweedledeedum Wed 05-Dec-12 00:31:38

No you are certainly not alone, he is just vile and not remotely funny. As others have said, I simply cannot believe how Fearne and Holly just giggle along with it, I have zero respect for them as well.

Longdistance Wed 05-Dec-12 00:35:51

He's just bloody awful, awful, awful!

judefawley Wed 05-Dec-12 00:41:56

I can't STAND him.

He is not funny.

Monty27 Wed 05-Dec-12 01:03:47

He makes my skin crawl envy <<<< sick emoticon

StopPickingYourNose Sat 08-Dec-12 00:26:07

I hate the fucker. He is a total prick and waste of space.

defineme Sat 08-Dec-12 00:34:35

The only thing I've complained to offcom about -fucking hate the character.
I complained that Keith and the women on his show had a back to school special complete with uniforms, when he told them they looked like a special school and they all obligingly gurned in impressions of kids with special needs and continued to bang on about looking 'special' I thought a complaint was warranted.
Their response was that there was a lot worse that had been edited out before it aired!
Pick on me, pick on my sex:we can talk back. Pick on my ds and he has no way of responding to vile stuff like this.

StopPickingYourNose Sat 08-Dec-12 00:50:36

That is disgusting defineme. Damn right a complaint was warranted. Can't believe offcom response! It just shouldn't be allowed and it shouldn't be put on telly. Makes my blood boil. I deteste Keith Lemon character and his stupid show. I don't know what channel it's on but is it the same channel that supports Children In Need? How can they see the suffering of the children and then ridicule like this? Appalling!

You are not alone, OP. He is an appalling little man, and I could find more (& less offensive) humour in the gutter.
Worrying, I find it increasingly difficult to find newer comedians who aren't hitching themselves to the bandwagon of this style.
