Starts next week grin - I loved the first series, and this time round Peter Capaldi is in it too - now all I have to do is make sure my family and friends know not to phone me on Wednesday nights grin

KurriKurri Wed 14-Nov-12 11:27:16

Well obviously the lack of replies means I peaked too soon (and got over excited too early) grin - either that or I am the only person who loves this series (and surely that's not possible?)

So any one else watching tonight?

Delatron Wed 14-Nov-12 19:08:45

Ooh, thanks for reminding me, I loved the first series. Have to sky plus it though as DP is out tonight and he likes it too. Hope it's as good as the last series!

OliviaMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 14-Nov-12 20:58:02

Love this show.

YouBrokeMySmoulder Wed 14-Nov-12 22:37:06

It was great but freddie you bastard. Tuts.

KurriKurri Wed 14-Nov-12 23:05:10

Oh my heart thudded to the floor when Freddie produced his wife. Poor Bel, but then she had her chance and didn't take it.

I like the new Peter Capaldi character too.

moonblues Wed 14-Nov-12 23:20:43

Oooh I forgot it was back on and missed the beginning - what's the relationship between Peter Capaldi and Lix?

Poor Bel. I didn't see that coming, especially after the talk about him writing her letters. Though Freddie still seems into her - there may be trouble ahead...

It was great. smile Need good tv in this cold dark weather.

Trying to work out how Mr Lyon fited in LA, san diego, New York for a few months, and still enough time to meet and marry Camille in Paris - all in 9 months! is this a case of marry in haste?

OliviaMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 15-Nov-12 09:37:13

Good point, Visual
Poor Bel
Her hair looked amazing <shallow>

I heart Freddie. I found Peter capaldi disappointing though.

ppeatfruit Thu 15-Nov-12 10:26:18

Sorry all I TRIED to get into the last one but it's total pretentious shite sad because I really wanted to like it but the S.W.s don't know what the hell they're doing IMO grin

That Romola garai is beautiful but a piece of wood is expressive next to her! IMO

Freddie is cute and he can act too.

Virtuallyarts Thu 06-Dec-12 22:09:00

Anyone watch last night? If so, what was happening with the man taking off the rings and getting into bed with the girl from the paradis? Couldn't work out what was happening there. Then later, gilenti says to him, done? And he says 'yes'.

Starting to feel sorry for the slightly annoying french woman. Freddie should not have married her!

OliviaPeaceOnMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 06-Dec-12 23:26:42

VA - DH reckons he was killing her (!) shock
Maybe removing rings to prevent any evidence???
God. I didn't get that, either

Pancakeflipper Thu 06-Dec-12 23:29:38

I love Bel's bottom. It's the bestest bottom on TV. Hope it wins a Bafta.

MsInterpret Thu 06-Dec-12 23:32:20

Yep - Gillenti told him 'she's been talking' and wanted him to 'take care of it'. But he didn't look happy about it I thought, maybe he didn't do it?

Love Freddy. And his wife. And LOVE Anna Chancellor as Lix. Think this series much better than last - more thematic, tho the signals about Lix & Randall having had a child were a bit heavy handed... The word 'child' or 'children' mentioned about four times in 20mins, each time accompanied by a strained look into the distance by one or both of them...!

Virtuallyarts Fri 07-Dec-12 06:58:21

Thanks! but he loves Miss Ramirez doesn't he? would he really kill her? I now think he was planning to smother her, hence telling her 'go to sleep'. and yes, removing rings would mean no dna evidence on them, but that is a bit advanced - in those days there were only fingerprints as evidence, weren't there?

legojunkie Fri 07-Dec-12 07:04:28

Maybe he was going to strangle her, the rings would have left marks.

Virtuallyarts Fri 07-Dec-12 07:11:12

she seemed to be terrified, i found it so sad that she felt she couldnt escape. just to lie there, not moving. i think if she'd run he might not have stopped her.

MunchkinsMumof2 Fri 07-Dec-12 19:46:40

I love this series even more than the last, much more to it and different avenues of intrigue. I hope Rosa is not dead.

wriggletto Fri 14-Dec-12 09:04:39

Ew, horrible finale last night. I was behind the cushion for half of it.

It's strange - I'm not desperate for a third series but at the same time I feel sad to have left that set-up of people and places and clothes and relationships behind. Anna Chancellor and Peter Capaldi were utterly intriguing, even with the tiny fragment of the relationship we were shown.

StellaNova Fri 14-Dec-12 13:30:36

Can anyone tell me what was going on there? Why did Freddie go off with the evil henchmen instead of getting a cab back with kiki? What was he trying to achieve? And why did Kiki not reveal where he was before she did? Am confused.

wildfig Fri 14-Dec-12 13:48:04

I think Freddie was trying to delay the henchmen, to make sure Kiki got into a cab and away before they tried to follow her.

++++++ sorry for possible spoilers ++++++

And I think Kiki didn't reveal his whereabouts because... nope, I can't think of a single reason she wouldn't have told anyone, other than to artificially raise the tension at the end of the episode. Which is a shame, because the script could have achieved exactly the same result by having her tell Bel almost immediately where Freddie was, and police being despatched... only to have him being beaten up in a completely different location.

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Fri 14-Dec-12 18:56:13

But did Freddie and belle get it together?

Virtuallyarts Fri 14-Dec-12 19:01:36

Just about to come on and ask - why didn't kiki pipe up? and it has already been answered!
was Freddie dying? and where was he? if just outside the club, how was there that huge patch of grass- was it Soho Square?
This series was so much more interesting than the first - the way the relationship between Freddie and Hector developed, Hector and Marnie grew back together - it was good!

Virtuallyarts Fri 14-Dec-12 19:02:48

etoiles, only if freddy didn't die! He looked in a bad way to me, and Gilenti had gone out of control at the end.

gwenniebee Fri 14-Dec-12 19:03:40

And is Freddie dead? Coz he kind of looked dying, but I'm really hoping not. Do we get a series 3? [hopeful]

gwenniebee Fri 14-Dec-12 19:04:09

Oooops... x-post smile

Virtuallyarts Fri 14-Dec-12 19:07:11

Also - why did Fred go with them? Why didn't he just say 'you won't find her, she's half way to Liverpool St station by now', and send them off on a wild goose chase?

Also - sorry, plot flaw spotting again - if they'd both gone in the cab to the BBC the henchmen still wouldn't have found her, so why did Fred have to go off with them anyway? maybe he panicked when he saw them, I suppose that is a plausible real life explanation.

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Fri 14-Dec-12 19:37:18

So they didn't even snog?

Virtuallyarts Fri 14-Dec-12 19:59:58

For a minute, in her office, they did!
Excuse me, what about camille though?

EssieW Fri 14-Dec-12 22:00:02

Brilliant brilliant last episode. Freddy must not die - please. I could spend the whole hour just watching him.

Loved the way they brought all the story lines together with so much tension.

Tweedledeedum Fri 14-Dec-12 23:26:33

Virtuallyarts he looked like he was dumped outside the front of the BBC, not sure how and who by... was hard to watch the finale I agree, spent half of it with my hands over my eyes.

I really hope there is a third series, I have loved this series, I enjoyed the first but this series really took it up a notch!

80sMum Fri 14-Dec-12 23:42:37

I thought the second series was even better than the first. I hope they make another.

wildfig Sat 15-Dec-12 03:16:49

Camille and her invisible string of onions et bicyclette vanished - bof! - very conveniently once she realised that Freddie was still in love with Bel. The best thing about Camille was that she didn't turn out to be Lix's long lost French baby.

I wish Bel could be more like Lix. Maybe, if Ben Wishaw gets a better offer from Hollywood Freddie dies, this'll be the life experience that toughens her up, as the Spanish Civil War/the actual war did for Randall and Hector.

Virtuallyarts Sat 15-Dec-12 07:32:28

Ah, it hadn't even occurred to me that Camille might have been the long lost baby wildfig - I did think after last week that Miss Ramirez might be (I know the nationalities didn't really work out).

I'd missed that it was outside the BBC that Freddy was dumped Tweedle, that would make sense as the gang warning off journalists, though a bit late by then!

wildfig Sat 15-Dec-12 09:08:58

I don't know why I'm nitpicking, actually - I really enjoyed this series. Apart from the beating bit. I couldn't watch any of that, which is probably a better indication of how much I'd started to believe in the characters by that point.

EtoilesPleinLesYeux Sat 15-Dec-12 09:36:43

I just adore the costumes in this show. I want belles wardrobe and her bottom

LadyClariceCannockMonty Sat 15-Dec-12 11:07:33

I thought Bel and Freddie did get it together? We saw them getting out of the same cab at work the morning after they'd all been at the Paradis, and at one point that day Bel says 'We haven't talked about last night.'

I love Bel's orange midi skirt and blue silk blouse combo.

I quite fancied Tom Burke too.

Just caught up - Freddy was outside the bbc studio they must have dumped him there as a warning.

Loved this series thought it was much better than the first. The whole storyline the vice, crime, racial problems in London - are they going to make another? Hopefully with Freddie.
