Any Fresh Meat fans out there?

DH and I LOVE this. Is scarily brilliantly accurate. Watched the first episode whilst expressing last year, now can watch the second series with wine and fingers crossed sleeping babies and it's even better.

No-one else?

nipersvest Tue 23-Oct-12 16:14:11

we love it too. can't decide who is my favorite character, love them all!

I love the Kingsley-Josie relationship. My favourite episode was the one when Jp's Dad & Oregon's horse died though, really sweet and moving and funny all at the same time.

I love Fresh Meat! I've always been a big Jack Whitehall fan anyway, I'm so glad they made a second series. smile

Although I'm not keen on the new Heather character, I love Sabine.

Last weeks episode though <boak>

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 16:25:57

Love, love, love it. The academics are scarily accurate too (except that Professor Shales would get into trouble for his relationship with Oregon).
I like Oregon best. Specially the moment in the last series where we found out she was really called Melissa.

pictish Tue 23-Oct-12 16:26:50

Yes...we love it!!! grin

Yay! A slightly scuzzy studenty home for FM fans, pass us a glass of schnoco.

pictish Tue 23-Oct-12 16:34:33

I love them all so much I can't pick a favourite.
Professor Shales is hilarious, and big up to Tony Gardner for portraying this pathetic, feeble, abusive wanker so very well indeed. The dynamic between desperate Professor Shales and the growing-wiser Oregon, is a joy to watch!

I definitely remember tutors, whilst not quite that pathetic, preying on pretty girls like that. Meant the non-pretty girls like me got a rather crap teaching experience too. Love the academic rivalry with his wife too, that's so accurate!

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 16:38:45

Have you had anything to eat Pictish? Would you like a bowl of munge?

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 16:39:29

I liked Robert Webb as Dan Dan the Geology Man.

Is that cheesy munge, or just munge?

pictish Tue 23-Oct-12 16:41:53

We also loved JP coming to terms with his friend Giles being gay.
The little monologue he had with himself after Giles pointed out he felt the same about JP as JP felt about Oregon, was wonderful!

"I don't want to bum him and he doesn't want to bum me"

I know JP is shallow, sexist, annoying, immature, selfish twat, but I love him anyway. grin

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 16:42:02

<peers into munge>
Don't eat the munge everyone, someone's been sick in it.

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 16:43:41

Poor JP though. That episode last series where his Flashman-like 'friends' from school kept asking him for more Ks.

pictish Tue 23-Oct-12 16:44:45

Oh oh oh and I adore how Josie is sweetness and light to the naked eye, but harbours a soul riddled with dishonesty, selfishness, and cold indifference. grin

pictish Tue 23-Oct-12 16:47:12

And how Vod is the same but the other way round!

ViviPru Tue 23-Oct-12 17:50:26

Yes that's so it about Josie, pictish. She's playing it even better this series.

I think Sabine has great potential as a foil.

Everyone knew a Howard at uni. It's just all so utterly, spookily familiar.

The actresses who play Vod and Oregon were on Nemone's 6Music show at the weekend, worth a listen on the iPlayer.

nipersvest Tue 23-Oct-12 19:06:13

tunip, i'm not so sure that part is inaccurate!, dh works in a uni and says one particular course has a reputation of the lecturers playing 'f* a fresher'.

jp is a total twat but likeable at the same time. last series, when he started crying in the shower over his dad sad

UltraBOF Tue 23-Oct-12 19:09:10

I love this too. At first I was hoping they'd get rid of Sabine, but I've really warmed to her.

AmIthatScary Tue 23-Oct-12 19:10:08

I'm a fan of Greg "Garreh" McHugh and I believe he is in it. So, I must try and catch up with it.

It sounds like it might be right up my street grin

noodleone Tue 23-Oct-12 19:12:27

The word meatabix made me snort with laughter.

SuffolkNWhat Tue 23-Oct-12 20:03:27

I love this show! My favourite character is Oregon, I think we all had someone like this at uni (the trying to fit in part, not shagging old man Shales part)

ErikNorseman Tue 23-Oct-12 20:17:35

I love it! Utterly brilliant.

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 21:38:46

shock Nipersvest.

DH works in a uni and swears that bit is unrealistic hmm

UltraBOF Tue 23-Oct-12 22:17:35

This is a cracking episode so far grin

Howling at the arm.
Cringing at the careers fair. I was not a grown up at 19, sooo many wasted opportunites...

TunipTheVegemal Tue 23-Oct-12 22:29:51

I just hope Josie doesn't lose Vod's job for her....

Snazzyspookyandscary Tue 23-Oct-12 22:35:10

Love it. 'You've eaten 65 pillow chocolates in the last 2 days!' grin

nipersvest Tue 23-Oct-12 23:31:51

wasn't sure about the josie mucking around on the job storyline given she's been portrayed as a flossing/anti bacterial mouthwash kind of girl. vod and the oil under the dress was excellent!

anonacfr Tue 23-Oct-12 23:36:15

I haven't watched the second series yet but Vod is just fabulous. Remember her presentation on Salman Rushdie last series? Genius.

Love the way she calls Kingsley pussy man. She has all the best lines.

ViviPru Tue 23-Oct-12 23:40:13

DP did industrial design at Uni. JPs phonerazor is not a million miles away from DP's first year project, the "Superzoomer" - a set of clippers-come-hairdryer that sucked instead of blowed. The similarities are astounding, including the oh so refined insulation tape... This evening, he's thoroughly enjoyed me resurrecting one of my favourite past times from the early days of our relationship, that being Let's All Take The Piss Out Of The Superzoomer.

TunipTheVegemal Wed 24-Oct-12 09:08:03

LMAO Vivipru.

Who was the actor that played the BP man who fancied Vod? Looked familiar but I couldn't place him.

ViviPru Wed 24-Oct-12 10:12:53

Yes I thought that too, Tunip. Vod looked AMAZING. I feel a girl crush coming on.....

MrsBucketxx Wed 24-Oct-12 10:20:39

i didnt know her name was violet either, its been a really funny series, the sperm ice cubes had me howling.

pictish Wed 24-Oct-12 10:28:21

Oh Vod is a creature to behold!

Was the BP man in The Office?

MrsMymble Thu 25-Oct-12 20:35:06

Vod is my new girl crush grin

The BP man was Dr Fogarty in Hunderby and he's on some jobsite advert too (can't remember which one)

cocoachannel Thu 25-Oct-12 20:41:53

DH and I love it. Series one was great but this one is even better.

ViviPru Thu 25-Oct-12 20:43:21

It's like the actress that plays Vod said when she was interviewed on Nemone, everyone has come together at the top of their game, the set designers, the writers, the actors, it's one of those doesn't-come-along-very-often triumphs....

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern Tue 30-Oct-12 22:03:20

Just starting....

nipersvest Wed 31-Oct-12 14:45:28

omg! howard and sabine, jumanji grin

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern Wed 31-Oct-12 14:47:59

I used to have a flatmate like Sabine.
She changed GPs because the one near our college didn't give out free condoms. I said 'Is it really worth it, they're not that expensive!' and she said completely deadpan 'But you see, I use a lot.'

maxmillie Wed 31-Oct-12 22:29:15

love JP and Vod, one of the few programs that makes me laugh out loud at the moment.

ViviPru Wed 31-Oct-12 22:58:36

Tunip grin

MrsCampbellBlack Thu 08-Nov-12 20:15:47

Just watched this week's episode - sooo brilliant. I love Vod so much - what was the song playing when her and the handyman got down to it?

SleepyLittleSunshineGirl Thu 15-Nov-12 11:37:01

I have been crying with laughter at this week's episode. The bit with Dan Dan the Geology man telling Howard he'd got him a Shell placement, as JP and Kingsley arsed around in the background made me do a little wee!

TheSmallPrint Thu 15-Nov-12 13:41:26

I love Fresh Meat but have to watch it away from DH. He just doesn't get programmes like this which is a bit unfortunate as I love them!

getagoldtoof Thu 15-Nov-12 22:35:20

My DH doesn't get it either. Weird - it is so funny!

maxmillie Fri 16-Nov-12 00:16:07

How!! It's the first properly hilarious British show I've seen in ages!!

Also that other one with JP in, bad education.

JP is just so sharply observed, it's hilarious, in a bitter sweet way like the best comedies.

SleepyLittleSunshineGirl Fri 16-Nov-12 08:19:05

Half the people I went to Uni with were JP so I think that's why it tickles me so much!

Meringue33 Fri 16-Nov-12 13:13:03

I love it, reminds me so much of uni days. At the time I think I thought I was as cool as Vod but probably in reality was more like Oregon

comeonbishbosh Sat 17-Nov-12 21:22:32

I am being stalked by Fresh Meat. The geology trip location was 15mins down the road from us, and get this I have the same duvet cover as JP. (habitat, since you ask).

maxmillie Sat 17-Nov-12 22:21:11

Yes I too went to uni with a load of JPs, tho they were all doing "art history maaan" and they were all such mummies boys underneath. He's got a few more redeeming features tho, the ones from my era were all fast tracked into management positions they are no good at by Daddy and are complete twats that I now have to put up with at work.
