I've just been watching some clips on you tube. Did Rory get killed? I thought he whole series ended with Rory leaving home.... Please put me out of my misery

SophySinclair Fri 28-Sep-12 23:24:34

no, definitely didn't get killed. Fear not smile

I think they are showing it on Channel 5 at the moment. Love it smile

Eh???

T'is not that kinda show medear grin

I adore it. Have watched it right through far more times than is healthy blush

SophySinclair Fri 28-Sep-12 23:50:54

I LOVE Lorelai considered giving DD Lorelai as middle name

Chippychop Sat 29-Sep-12 21:04:01

I 'discovered' when breast feeding dd. I really want to live in star hollow and be lorelie. I did think it was sad Rory didn't marry whatshisname x

It's bloody brilliant! There's something wonderful about Loralei...she's ace grin

Wetthemogwai Sun 30-Sep-12 00:33:50

She didn't die, she went on the election trail with Obama as a journalist. I was OBSESSED with this when I was pregnant and when dd was tiny, as a teeny baby dd used to recognise the theme tune blush

Noooo it's so good that she didn't marry Logan! I think the whole program was about being strong independent women (apart from when Loralei was mooning after luke and married Christopher - I didn't like those bits).

I am a young (although not as young as loralei) single mum with a DD. I fantasize that we will be just like them when dd is older.

On a more serious note I know it is all fantasy and very unrealistic but it really made me feel that being a single parent is okay and actually bloody amazing. It is one of the few tv shows that has a positive mother/daughter relationship smile

Died? What the hell clip did you watch?

D hadh actually agreed that if we have a dd then we can call her Lorelai (he's as obsessed as me) but Ds's name starts with an L and sounds kind of similar (think lion) so I'm not sure we could get away with it...

I loved loved loved this show. It reminds me of being pregnant, it was on E4 every day!

Very witty, fantastic dialogue and just sort of gentle, cosy viewing. I loved Emily grin

It was great that Rory refused Logan. He was a bastard. I think it was the perfect ending for the series, if she'd got married to him that would have been the beginning of the end for her and she'd have ended up like Emily.

Arithmeticulous Mon 01-Oct-12 14:05:30

Channel 5, 4pm, weekdays.

redlac Mon 01-Oct-12 14:10:26

Thank you for starting this thread - guess what I'll be doing at 4pm today! Loved the Gilmore Girls and had a huge crush on Luke smile

YesAnastasia Mon 01-Oct-12 14:20:50

I watched the whole series while I was pregnant too! It was all I could cope with, it's so wholesome!

I love Lorelai and all the literature references. And the fast talking. Fantastic.

And Lane. And Sookie. I miss it.

cerealqueen Mon 01-Oct-12 16:26:38

Loved it too, DP called it breastfeeding tv as I would record it and watch it for mammoth feeding sessions. I have series one on DVD. I loved Luke too (wonder what mnetters would have made of him on the relationships boards!)

Chippychop Mon 01-Oct-12 17:15:07

I miss it too. I have find memories of coding up with dd watching it. Almost wort getting pregnant to have the excuse! I even googled this area in the states to find a perfect place just like this. Seemingly the main actors would agree to a further series unless it was only 8 episodes otherwise they wanted more money sad hope me and my dd are like lorelie and Rory though smile

BelfastBloke Mon 01-Oct-12 17:22:02

What season is being shown on Channel 5 at the moment?

I love this show and I'm another one who wants to live in Stars Hollow.

I think its good they didn't do any more seasons. For me it started to loose its magic at season 5.

I suppose there had to be a shift in the tone of the show as they grew older but I hated the Rory/Logan relationship. He was a proper arse.

I live in the english version of Stars Hollow. Very community minded. Lots of wacky characters. Strange historical traditions. I lurve it

Chippychop Wed 03-Oct-12 10:23:01

Crikey [makescakeswhenstressed] where do you live??? And are you Lorelie????

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 03-Oct-12 13:16:09

I wonder what happened to some of the actors in it who we never see any more.
Particularly Rory, I wonder what she looks like now and if she has been in anything else.
I loved the series, though it did go off the boil a bit when Luke found his long lost daughter, she was really annoying.

whatkungfuthat Wed 03-Oct-12 18:38:55

Rory was in Sin City but I think that was made during her time on GG. I would like to think she eventually got back together with Jess. He grew up, had a book published and was making his own way with his book collective thing so they would have been good together. I didn't like Logan at all.

The original writer left under a bit of a cloud, and admitted she deliberately messed things up by writing in Luke's daughter which is when it got a bit rubbish imo.

IronyFreeAnnie Wed 03-Oct-12 18:52:43

Rory was in a couple of episodes of the latest series of Mad Men, seducing Pete Campbell, which just made me imagine what Lorelai would have to say.
I think Lorelai is in Parenthood which is on 5 or 5 USA in he afternoons at the moment.

IronyFreeAnnie Wed 03-Oct-12 18:53:48

Oh, and going back a few years Luke was in a couple of the Saw films!

I had completely forgotten about Lukes daughter - and her mum! They both did just seem like annoying/unnecessary characters. And that bit where Luke went on a cruise and married that lawyer confused That was just bizarre and so un-luke. I suppose they needed to do something to create a Luke/Lorelai relationship.

I love Kirk. I think he is actually a scarily realistic character. Paris too - I was so happy when she turned up at Yale grin

CelstialNavigation Wed 03-Oct-12 18:58:16

Rory is the main actress in a coming of age/ romcom type movie due out shortly - saw the trailer.

Lorelai's character in Parenthood is definitely not too far away from Lorelai (although Lorelai is more likable and entertaining).

Emily seems to be playing the same type of character she did in GG in that Bunheads series that's been going a few months in the States.

That's written by Amy Sherman - Palladino too (?) and full of fast talking characters in a wacky small town too so may be worth a try for a GG-type fix.

whatkungfuthat Wed 03-Oct-12 19:01:32

And Sookie is in Mike and Molly

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 03-Oct-12 19:03:37

Oh yes, I've seen Sookie.
I loved her in GG.

The dude that married Lane is in True Blood.

Sookie was in Bridesmaids too

DaPrincessBride Wed 03-Oct-12 19:11:33

Ohh I love this programme. Discovered on ML and never looked back grin

Chippychop Wed 03-Oct-12 19:21:50

Sookie is in bridesmaids too completely different character but I think it worked

CelstialNavigation Wed 03-Oct-12 19:44:05

And Logan appears to have become a high-powered litigator (possibly being rejected by Rory caused him to grow up a bit).

Wasnt Rory also in Sisterhood of the travelling pants?

Sookie has been in loads of things...that thing with Christina Applegate where the girl loses her memory? How apt that I have forgotten the bloody name of it grin

Luke was in The Event.

I love GG. Emily is so good (she was in Dirty Dancing!!) and Richard is really sweet (he was in The Good Wife a few times).

I miss it sad

whatkungfuthat Wed 03-Oct-12 20:05:04

I miss it too. There was talk of a movie a while ago to tidy up the storylines. Doesn't look likely now though.

We should write a letter to Lauren Graham. She was a producer in the later seasons.

Chippychop Wed 03-Oct-12 23:37:12

And Sookie was in bridesmaids. It took me ages to place her as she is soo different in both.

I'd love the box sets for Xmas...

Its a good thing to have Chippy smile My friend downloaded every episode for me and put them all onto disk so I could watch it whenever I like. I was so happy grin I watched some last night.

I think the box set is about £50 on Amazon.

I always struggle to get through season 7. I didn't like those two friends they gave Rory. It was so obvious they were written in just to give Rory someone to talk to after Paris was gone.

None of my friends watched this and I keep telling them how good it is and to watch the repeats. It is the fab characters that make it. Lorelai is brill.

FreshWest Thu 04-Oct-12 22:27:48

I loved watching this when it was on E4, wrong time of day for me now tho. Adding to the "who was in what?" debate, Richard was the head vampire in Lost Boys.
Rory and jess went out in real life for a while too I think.

Wetthemogwai Fri 05-Oct-12 01:13:45

The box set is going on my Xmas list!

Richard was in Richie rich as his dad

Emily, of course, was the mum in Dirty Dancing...

Chippychop Fri 05-Oct-12 16:32:20

Off course she was!!! Never clicked!

I think Rory and Jess were together for quite a while.

Jess was in heroes...
