last season we had a rather cerebral analysis iirc
was thinking about this when don met the prison guard in the waiting room - the paralells i mean.
also how unaffectionate canbetty get to her kids?

I thought Don was changing his ways but the dirty dog is starting to stray again

wonder if his true identity will ever be revealed?

I think Betty is probably a typical version of what a mother was like then

TheFoosa Thu 04-Mar-10 16:55:17

I've only come to it this series-I love it. It's like a window into the lives of my late parents -they weren't in advertising or USA but the decor, clothes and manners are so well done. Going to try to get first two series on DVD soon.

i like the betty and don's flaws, it makes them so real (iykwim) but why is don so horrible to peggy?

I think Don thinks as a woman,Peggy should be grateful for what she has considering she is not attractive enough for him to shag! What do you think?

Starbear Thu 11-Mar-10 21:40:25

After watching the recording but not wanting to give the story away. Isn't Pete vile he should get his comeupance soon please. Betty is such a cow. Can't say more otherwise I'll give the game away. I hope Peggy goes to Duck's company then flies.

southeastastra Thu 11-Mar-10 21:42:08

why is betty a cow? i like her

Starbear Thu 11-Mar-10 22:25:06

Because she gave Don the impression that she was very happy one minute & changes like the wind in the evening. She has everything. I don't think she thinks of anyone else especially not the children.

Wasn't the episode with the lawn mower one of the funniest and most shocking things on TV so far this year?

I love the whole show and think all of the actors/actresses are doing a marvellous job -especially the little girl who plays Sally and the Tour de Force that is Christina Hendricks playing Joan.

Do we think they'll run this programme through to the women's movement because that seems to be exactly the direction it's heading in. The women will rise up and tell all these dreadful men to fuck off.

This kind of existence is what drove women mad back in America in the 50s and 60s when they were all on valium. So oppressive.

I absolutely love this programme, a lot of the time not much seems to happen but I am totally caught up in it and surprised when it finishes, always leaves me wanting more.

I think Betty is played brilliantly by January Jones, I find her interactions with her children quite chilling sometimes though, they are being screwed up as we watch. Both her and Don's relationships with them show how different attitudes were towards parenting and children ie seen and not heard, lack of choices with regard to birth control leading to children being seen as something that happens to you rather than something you choose. The entire programme is so intelligently done, it is all in the small nuances rather than the main plotlines.

I don't think Pete is horrible, I don't think any of them are, they are all suppressed by their time.
