What a crock of utter, total, absolute shite.

Shows how much our patheitc society values the female of the species- we're old at under 40 and Christmas is exclusively about kids and shopping. Did I miss something?

You're right, they're not as old (or as funny)as the Grumpy Old Men. It doesn't seem to work with women.

I think most of the GOM were over 50 or so. They weren't in the Katherine Flett league in terms of wither age or vacuousness... I do like the real older women on there like Sheila Hancock and Janet s-t and Germaine G. And Jenny Eclair is funny. But the voice over sounds like it's describing a fifties Xmas, genderwise...

I related to a lot of it The designer had my life down to a tee - they were drinking out of my Ikea wine glasses, she was using my Makro bulk purchase wrapping paper and she had the same number of chins as I do. I liked Jenny Eclair, too.

I work in an office with a VERY attractive 42 year-old who is always banging on about being an old ugly witch and how her life as an attractive woman is over... and whenever she does I think SHIT that's EXACTLY how I feel - and I'm only 30!

One of my older friends (who's 83) thinks this is HYSTERICAL of course. I guess she has more perspective...

Spent my teenage years thinking I was a fat old troll and now I look back at pics of myself and think OMG I was a BABE!!!!!

Probably do the same thing in 20 years about myself now ...!

I quite enjoyed it. Reminded me of Christmases when growing up.

Still think majority is all down to the women folk to sort at Christmas - just look at the threads on MN! I refuse to get al stressed about it. Christmas Day is on our own. Food is pre-prepared from M&S, or this year - meal out. Boxing Day when we have everyone over is buffet only. And I will buy as much as possible ready done.

I can do the dinner parties and cooking throughout the year. Don't feel the need to prove myself and put myself through all that hassle on what is supposed to be the most exciting day of the year.

I just can't cotton onto this idea of everything having to be made from scratch on Christmas day of ll days. I'd much rather prefer to spend the morning helping DD open and play with her presents than peel and boil veg. M&S do a fab range that taste lovely, and they take minutes. As I don't eat meat I also don't have to do a buig roast either - fish for me and fillet steak for DHand DD - again all take minutes with no prep!

This year we are eating out though as a treat - so not even anyone filling and emptying of dishwassher

Saw the second half, liked Sheila Hancock, not sure about Germaine, to my shame I'm afraid I'd never heard of some of them - do I need to get out more ?

Really not sure I want to be described as old soon; after all, my parents have just decided they've entered the 'later stages of youth', in their early sixties - seems to be an excuse to behave like teenagers, fair play to them !

Why is there such a big deal made about Christmas lunch ? It's a roast dinner ffs with a few extra bits which can all be either made before or delegated. What is so hard about saying 'sure you can come to lunch, bring the cranberry/peeled sprouts/huge bottle of gin' ?
