Did you watch it the other week on BBC4. I had never seen it all the way through before and I cringed through it. What a brilliant actress Alison Stedman is. I was shocked that Laurence died at the end, I was thinking about what their lives would be like know. I reckon Bev would of married and sucked the life out of a further 3 or 4 husband; whilst Susan would of lived a sad life still loving her ex husband and never getting a life of her own, whilst her children would of grown to despise her for not having a lie of her own. Tony would of carried on belittling Angela, cheating and hitting her and she would of let him

i love love love it = brillkant. have seen it countless times. another play by ML also with AS in is 'nuts in may' very different but wqually brilliant - watch out for it.

I loved Nuts in May when it was on Play for Today (showing my gae there!). Is it going to be shown again? When?? I'd love to share Candice-Marie and Keith with ds and dd! They'd love them!

Yes I think Nuts in May was the first Mike Leigh thing I saw. My favourite is still Secrets and Lies - never fails to make me sob. Also loved Life is Sweet and more recnetly Vera Drake. The man's a genius. Alison Steadman should be knighted, or whatever it is that women get!

I love Mike Leigh and would love to watch all of his stuff again.

I remember watching a lot as a student (early 90s) but never saw Abigail's party. I started watching it on TV last week IIRC but unfortunately fell asleep as it was on quite late.

I wonder if you can get a box set of all his stuff on DVD?
