Stewart Lee on TV for teenagers

interesting stuff

What do people think?
Is "Skins" so representative of young people in TV fiction today? Were "The Changes" and "Children of the Stones" typical of their time?

I can still remember stuff in the "spooky, alienating" vein of those 2 series being done fairly recently - "Century Falls", for example, and "The Magician's House".

The problem now is that all children's TV has to compete with the huge cartoon channels, and so if there is anything magical/fantastic it's all aimed at 6-year-olds - that old 5.10pm slot used to have some gems in the 70s/80s, but you couldn't do them today. Maybe the huge interest in "Doctor Who" will spark a revival...?

hope so, i remember watching children of the stones and quatermass series etc when younger. my ds(13) loves watching re-runs of the xfiles too.

i suppose the more magical/far out stuff is aimed at adults and children alike now.

i imagine skins is more aimed at girls (for some reason!)

I didn't see "Skins" but it looked awful. More aimed at oh-so-webellious twentysomethings than teens.

I think people have taken the bits from 'Skins' that they want to emphasise and ignored the other bits. There was a lot in there about problems and coping with hard times/difficult situations, and with the problems of being a teenager (not all drug/drink/sex related).

Which is more acurate to how I felt as a teenager? Well definately Skins. More exaggerated than my teenage life, but definately more relevant. Dealt with the problems that me and my friends were dealing with during our teens. And put I think the self-centredness of teenagers into context sometimes.

On a completely different line - has Stewart Lee been ill recently? Saw him on telly recently and he looked awful. His face looks really puffy.
