Having problems copying Dora from Sky+ to DVDR

We're running out of space on our SKY+ so I'm copying the kids programs onto DVD, but it seems that most Dora episodes are copy-protected. I don't mind that, fair enough if they don't want them copied onto something else, but it is really frustrating that you don't find out if that episode has copy protection on it until about 3-4 mins into the recording and the dvd just stops with a message stating 'copy protected cannot record'. As I'm using dvd-r dvds it's messing up lots as I can't delete those little bits.

Does anyone know anything about this? How can you tell if it's copy protected? I have rung SKY and they are not able to give me any answers on this. Just resent the signal (isn't that their answer to everything??!) which has don't nout.

[Also found I could not copy Brother Bear 2 onto DVD after a copy protection message comes up 15mins into the recording (another buggered dvd it's costing me a fortune!), but I have managed other ones like Mulan 2 and Lady/Tramp 2] And yes, this is all for personal use, just like you'd use a video recorder to save fave episodes.

It's just happened with a Fifi one aswell... but not Diego or Backyardigans... very strange!

I didn't know sky stuff was copy protected - we have never had a problem - but we have mostly copied disney films from the disney channel.

Are you sure that it isn't the disk in some way [no really knowing what I am talking about armwaving]???

Just asked DH and he says it's the Sky+ box, as it has copyright protection built in. We use a DVD recorder with a hard drive and don't seem to have any problems recording off Sky onto hard drive and then onto DVD

Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for the replies, it definitely isn't the dvd as I've recorded other programs fine onto it.

I really don't mind them being copy protected, fair enough, but what's frustrating is you don't know that they are until they fail, there's no indication in the info text or at the beginning or anything.

Since writing this I have used a dvd-rw so I can delete the ones that fail and I found that four out of the five Dora's we had were protected and one wasn't. Very strange. Maybe it's something to do with the age of that particular episode? The Fifi ones all had 'New Episode' in the top corner and failed. But the latest Backyardigans have all copied fine.

All very strange. Will try and speak to someone more knowledgable at SKY this time! Thanks for your help.
