Simpsons - surely loved by all

Just walked past the telly and the Scottish character was dressed as a frenchman in class saying "bonjourrrrrrrr" and I chortled heartily.

I'm sure this has come up on mn before, but if you don't like the Simpsons (and I can't imagine many won't) could you just tell me why?

I just can't think of any good reasons not to.

Yes, I wondered this on teh taking kids to see Harry Potter thread (cinema boredom for me) - other option was teh Simpsons. Couldn't understand teh vitriol against the Simpsons

I hate the Simpsons. I just don't get cartoons for adults!

I don't often watch it but when I do there are some great jokes on it. I saw most of one about Homer having heart surgery recently and it was just brilliant.

kanga, you were being a bit shouty yesterday I notice

You talk about the graphics but surely the obvious overwhelming achievement of teh SImpsons is the script?

Think it's very unlikely you will like spongebob, kanga. Graphics, as per youge, are awful. AWFUL

It makes me laugh sometimes (DH is a fan), but... I really dislike the Simpsons. Find it trite, predictable, depressing, lots of gags at the expensive of characters that evidently can't help being so pathetic/sad/incapable. Makes me cringe. Where's the humour in characters with such hopeless lives?

I know someone hates the Simpsons because it's on Fox TV in USA, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch and has very biased right-wing bias news coverage, so all things FOX are tainted in his view. Also Fox owns the copyright to all things Simpsons and have huge fangs out for anybody that tries to use the slightest hint (like just 1 second or a picture) of one of their images -- even for charity or in low budget documentaries.

that's interesting, peanut, your view that they have hopeless lives, that it's taking the piss.

I don't see that at all. I see it as very sympathetic to the hopelessness of life. But I recognise that that's how problems arise with different senses of humour.
