It does seem cruel to almost be shouting at her in the state shes in. Does she not need help to re adjust the pain message in her brain? The messages shes getting ar very similar to the ones that make us have panic attacks and anxiety. Theres so many complimentary things they could be doing alongside the "scientific" treatments ?????? Im really wound up sitting here .

YES!

I would be FURIOUS at a consultant who tells a child that she can 'fight through the pain'!

WTF?!

She's 14!

She's in agony. Just telling her to knuckle through it?

Id have to be held back , believe me there would be blood !!!!

Its just that I believe very strongly in complimentary therapies used alongside the normal hospital treatments. They could be doing so much more to speed up what she needs her mind and body to do. Some may laugh at what may seem like my hippy treatments , but I had severe panic attacks and PTSD and Ive come through it with complimentary faster than normal psychology/ psychotherapy.

Why not put her on a course of painkillers whilst she works with the physio?

What is this, the Victorian era?

When I had physio after surgery, for the first few weeks I was prescribed pain meds to take about half an hour before each session.

It helps the session go better, because your brain can try to focus on the movement rather than the pain.

Pain can put you into shock, ffs!

I can't imagine that attitudes like this are still pervasive in the Western world of medicine, much less whilst dealing with children.

'Think sweet thoughts'.

Yeah, that really fucking helps! Do these people have a brain??

I think 'rich' thoughts all the time, but you know what? It never makes me any money.

Some people think 'well' thoughts or 'baby' thoughts, but they don't get better or conceive because they need medical help.

This consultant makes me .

after some of my attacks I shook like that all over and was also in a lot of pain , it was so severe, I also screamed out. That doesnt happen anymore and I also didnt take pain killers.

OOH FFS are u listening.

They need to give her much more support than this.

Control your screaming!

She's a child!

My gawd, I want to punch this woman!

I hope she has a horrid labour from hell and writhes around in agony for hour upon hour and wishes she were dead.

'You need to control your breathing'.

Um, she needs help, not someone shouting at her!

I agree, melsy, some accupuncture, some hypnotherapy, yoga breathing techniques, etc.

There is NO reason for this girl to suffer like this!

They need to understand why it happened in the 1st place and why shes got this really strong pain message. There needs to be a more holistic approach , as this is so much more than the pain.

GRRRRRRR she just seems to have very limited knowledge for someone in her position.

You dont shout at somoene to be calm and relaxed either , fgs .

I should turn over , I always get in a right state watching these things. Although I better than I was. I woud be shaking and having an attack too right now.

yerr expat that it , right there right then bring someone in alongside what they are doing, results will be faster. EFT would be amazing for this, Theyre making her feel bad for having these thoughts , and guilt will not help pain messages either. there is NO excuse in this day and age to be ignorant or unwilling of using complimantary things. (of course its all cost but hey, never mind let children suffer ).

It is physical pain, lisa. That's just it.

It's not psychological.

'Theyre making her feel bad for having these thoughts , and guilt will not help pain messages either.'

Exactly, melsy! Fighting the body in cases like this is stupid, because the body doesn't lie.

This shouty strategy teaches a young woman not to trust what her body tells her, to ignore its signals and signs.

Very bad.

We all know as women how important it is to be in touch with your body.

just read your message about pain killers expat, I agree , Im having physio for very painful spd and sacral displacement from my pregnancy with dd2 7mths ago , right now. The 1st 2 weeks I was told to take nurofen every day every 4hrs. The idea being that if the inflammation goes down and the pain messages calm then I will feel as if IM recovering more and it will perpetuate further recovery.

I've had four knee surgeries, my world-class surgeon, a Frenchman who worked on Olympic skiers, strongly believed in helping with pain in the weeks immediately following surgery. In his opinion, there was no point in his operating if the patient's brain was so busy focusing on the pain they couldn't work with their physio to maximum effect.

I also had accupuncture and worked with a yogi on breathing techniques.

wow expat so like me this is quite close to the bone as they say. Ive also had a combination of hypnotherapy , EFT , EMDR (trips to A&E ) and acutpunture for other ailments. I also meditate and do very very gentle pilates every evening. Therapies HAVE to be dynamic as theres always a combinatin of factors in pain and mind control issues.

This girl is beautiful. What a lovely lass! I hope some modelling scouts are watching - she's a tall one!

I just don't see why she should have just been made to suffer without even trying some alternatives to help her cope and still stay in touch with her body.
