Pruni, I think WW is the sort of thing you need to get into from the beginning (so perfect for hiring DVD's). Some of the American politics is pretty baffling and they talk REALLY fast but usually at the end of an episode I sort of understood what had happened (and felt slightly cleverer for watching it!!)

American Gothic, that's what I'm watching at the moment.

The Sopranos-although it is very violent.

I believe 6 feet under is meant to be very good, I never got into it, but this thread has jogged my memory and made me think maybe I'll put it on my Tesco Film list.

Fortunes of War, the Olivia Manning series, with Kenneth Branagh/Emma Thompson.

Brideshead Revisited, absolutely wonderful. Nobody would do it so well nowadays, they'd compress it into half the time or less.

My dh liked I, Claudius but that one did seem dated to me.

ER! You get to watch George Clooney, Goran Visnijic and anyone else that takes your fancy right from the beginning!
8 episodes per disc, 3 dics per series, 7 series available to rent so far. Should keep you busy for a while.

Sorry, no better suggestions but I just wanted to say I love Lovefilm! I've got Little Miss Sunshine to watch tonight. It almost makes up for hardly being able to get to the cinema these days.
