BIG BROTHER 8 - ANYONE GOING TO AUDITION?

Sparkler1 · 31/01/2007 20:07

Well, I thought we hadn't had a Big Brother thread for at least............................
a few days!
I always thought it might be a bit of a laugh. Not sure I would be brave enough to enter after all the hoo-haa Celeb BB brought up.
So will we be spotting any Mumsnetters or their friends of families at the auditions?

D'ya know, I've thought about it. I'd quite like to do it, but logistics would make it impossible, DH couldn't just abandon work to look after the kids and pets etc, and we don't have anyone who could. Would worry a bit about being portrayed in a bad light, but would like to go in there and just have a right laugh. Oh, and leaving with the prize money too would be acceptable.

I think anyone who wants to do it is mentally unhinged. Doesn't stop me watching it though .

Couldn't image anything worse TBH. I like the idea of 12 weeks doing nothing though

It would make a change to have some sensible mature people with a bit of life experience in the house - people who have actually had to think about another human being's needs in their lives - and not just vacuous and smackable 19-to-23-year-olds obsessed with R'n'B, Heat, "working out" and themselves. Sadly, they rarely have parents as contestants. Not the demographic, perhaps.

Sadly, the people who go into BB are going to be, by definition, the kind of people who mostly watch BB.

Frighteningly, the 19-year-olds applying this year will only have been 12 when the programme first went out. For them, "Reality TV" is not a contrivance, it's a genuine part of the televisual landscape - and being "famous" with no other qualification is a perfectly acceptable goal in life. Indeed, some of them see it as a bloody RIGHT.

well, i think anyone who goes on it and now and then complains they were misrepresented , badly edited, didn;t know what to expect will get very short shrift.....

still slightly amazes me that some people will do anything for a brief moment in the spotlight.

The whole thing of "can you imagine what it's like living like that, having cameras watching you 24 hours a day" has totally gone now - people just accept it , even crave it. Something has been lost there. The first BB was the best because they had NO IDEA if anyone was watching or if it was just a few sad post-pub people at 2am.
