ER's Abby - what kind of mother do you think...

... she makes?

I thought she came across horribly in the last episode on Thu, first laying into that woman at the baby group, then letting her son who must still be tiny cry on his own in the cot...

I knew Luka should have had babies with me instead

Yes but women in baby group basically attacked her (verbally) for using a Baby Björn - (a) I'm sure no baby group would do that even if they disapproved and (b) you would quite rightly be forced to play the "I am a doctor, get stuffed" card if someone did.

I do agree about the leaving him to cry, but let's face it, the script was probably written by a man, and the actress may not have children of her own (and probably isn't allowed to change the script simply because she disagrees with it).

Oh I thought she was fab at the mother and baby group.

I think she'll be great, if not a little neurotic.

I said no more babies (we have 3) but I'll reconsider if Luka ever dropped by, you know, like he does and all that.

I thought the baby group people were rude and obnoxious and unwelcoming and judgemental and deserved everything they got
I'm stunned you think she was wrong to lay into them

Agree with Misdee.

Infact, I was miffed I can never think of anything to reply with so quickly at those cliquey M&B groups!

Also, don't think the baby is that newborn now. They seem to jump several months on occasions.

A freak.

She's an uptight, simpering, whingy harpie. She must be able to suck the chrome off a Cadillac for Luka to stay with her.

And step off!

Luka was mine llllooonnnggg ago.

expat, you have used the 'suck the chrome off a Cadillac' phrase before, and I collapse every time you do

I think she was right to tell the women at the lentil weavers group where to go.
I do think that she will be neurotic mother though, as Joe will be her one and only son.

She's a head case.

Most men would run a mile.

Imagine trying ot love someone who makes everything SOOOOO complex.

Gawd all that melodrama would get so tiresome.

She's wound up like a spring.

although to think about it many women characters in er are a bit of a pita

I think Neela's character is just an idiot when it comes to men.

I would have liked her for her to go out with what's his name, her friend, her housemate?
I also couldn't stand dr greene's wife

I thought both sides didn't look too good at the M & B group.

The women should have been more welcoming to Abby, but then again she went straight into full-on attack, which I wouldn't have done.

Baby Bjorns are said to be bad for hip development btw.

And doctors certainly don't know everything about what's best for babies, see threads on breastfeeding etc.!

I thought it was the programme's subtle taking the piss of examples of extreme motherhood

I like ER very much, but I think that the overwhelming whiff of male scriptwriters / directors leaps from the screen every time they try and tackle anything to do with babies and childbirth...

I have never come across a mother and babygroup that would attack a newbie in the way that was protrayed in the last episode. And all births are really medicalised - there was one epidode last series where a woman wanted to make her own decisions on the birth and the baby ended up dying because she wouldn't do as she was told and have a section. I know it's only telly, but they're much better on other issues (eg gay rights, unfairness of insurance, race, poverty, Iraq, international issues etc) that it is a disappointment when they stuff up maternity.

I quite miss Carter, but my heart really belongs to the late Mark Greene.

Carter was a twat.

A ponce and one of those weak, lilly-livered excuses for a man.

I've met little girls who had more of pair than he had.

What I hate about ER is how everyone seems to live in a VERY dark flat.

He made me yearn for him even then.
