Cuckoo - season 3

Anyone else watching? DH just laughed our heads off at the bungled baby switch in the car park.

The (not so) new Rachel is actually a really good match as Helen Baxendales's daughter.

Dale's naivety is played for good effect.

We're just waiting to see when the Triads are going to make an appearance.

Ive been watching, I love it. The kidnapping was good

We're fans too. I'm not sure this season is quite as good as the first two. I did very much enjoy the pretending to be kidnapped one.

I have enjoyed the second 2 seasons but the first was by far the best. The original cuckoo was a more nuanced character than the ever lovely and naive Dale. I think the tension between Greg Davis and cuckoo was what made the first series great and there isn't any tension now. The younger brother was also much funnier when he was being unsuccessful at attracting girls.

If you want a shock Google the actor who plays the younger brother and then follow the links on his wiki page to his parents wiki page. Interesting family!!

Sounds intriguing.

Dale is Cuckoo's long lost son, by the way, which is why he calls Rachel "Mum".

Anyone else wondering if Andy Samberg will ever make a return, even if its only a cameo?

DH and I love Cuckoo! Not sure why. It's just hilarious. We've enjoyed all the seasons including this one. Love Grumpy Greg Davies, over enthusiastic Helen Baxendale and all the characters. The script contains some gems. I think it just has a freshness about it. Can't put my finger on it, but I'm glad it's back, love it!

I like "Chief" Ken and Dale's bromance. Everyone else takes the piss out of Ken, especially his son, but Dale really looks up to him & it seems Ken quite likes it. I know Dale isn't quite as well drawn or as subversive as Cuckoo, but he has a charm of his own. DH likes how they work the actor's martial arts skillz into the script in all sorts of improbable ways.

I love it, makes me laugh so much - it's so silly.

We laughed at the comment about Rachel's picture on her dating profile and how she looked so different from three years ago Wink Grin

Oh dear! I'm stupid - I never clicked that the actress playing Rachel changed Blush

I think the current actress is great and I would really believe she was Helen Baxandale's daughter. Nice to see Helen Baxendale playing such a lovely character. She's a great actress but she was so badly used in Friends that it spoilt my image of her for a while. I am guessing she has worked a lot since then but not things I have seen.

I'm surprised to read so many positive reviews here- we are hating it and we loved the first two series. Are huge Greg Davies fans and were until this point huge fans of Cuckoo.

I actually think this series feels like it has been written by totally different people. It's shit. DH and I think they're trying to kill it because BBC3 has gone online only and it's too expensive- Taylor Laurtner (spelling?), Greg Davies and Helen Baxendale must cost a fair bit as a collective.

If they're going to pay them though they might as well pay someone decent to write the script and just make it clear it's the last series and go out in style, not this anything that can go wrong will go wrong puerile comedy. The neighbour is just an irritation and should be given minor parts if he's in it at all.

The last episode wasn't great, but the first 2 of this series were fab. Loved Dale and chief Ken at the Mum's group! Grin Not having the younger brother in as much loses something from the family dynamic.

2rebecca yeah, I don't know. Could be totally wrong about the trying to kill it theory- just can't think of another explaination for the drop in quality!!

Reading this thread has made me think of some of the best bits from when it wasnt shit though and the episode in series 1 where Ken gets accidentally high on MDMA in a favourite of mine.... "We should see the Dexys!"....- I don't have tickets!.... "WE SHOULD GET TICKETS!" Grin

It would be so expensive to make, I can't see them making it just to kill it.
Maybe it's the puerile aspect that appeals to me. I don't know. They say you find this type of sitcom funny if bits mirror your own life. Well, bits of this do!

I've always hated slapstick. I hated Laurel and Hardy and Some Mothers do Have em as a child.
I enjoyed the first episode of this series but hated the baby change slapstick and the birthday slapstick this week. The chicken in the cage and 20 question scenes were excellent though

If you like Greg Davies I would recommend the channel 4 show Man Down (hopefully available on catch up. The first series has Rik Mayall in it. As he died between series he is replaced by the very funny Stephanie Cole. It also has Mrs McClusky from Grange Hill. It's quite dark but very funny.
