This Sunday (17th) at 8pm on BBC1.

I enjoyed the Christmas special - it was good to see Delia back, and I think there's going to be a nice romance with Tom and Barbara Smile

The - it looks like we are going to get a thalidomide story.

Ooh I had no idea!

Yes they have been dropping 'Distaval' into the programme for quite a while now, havn't they ?

Oh, dd and I were glaring at Tom and Nurse Gilbert making eyes at each other! We do not approve. Like splitting up with someone and moving on to their sibling. We will be tutting loudly if that continues.

And yes, there was a "terrible morning sickness relieved by thalidomide" storyline - have been wondering if we'll see the fallout from that.

Yes even in the Christmas episode he was mentioning Distaval.

It looks like they are going with the 'loving, caring, non-judgemental HCP' route again. Which I think was wide of the mark a lot of the time back then. Quite frankly it wasn't unusual for parents to be advised to abandon disabled children.

Atia, I suppose it does seem a bit of a bad idea, considering he was engaged to Trixie - it was just that I felt sorry for her when she couldn't go home and liked that he was being nice to her. And as a canon's daughter she'd probably make a good vicar's wife!

He's probably a bit old for her though, as well as being a workmate's ex-fiancé...

My husband said something that made me think

POTENTIAL TRIGGERING POST

He said the insult flid was in reference to babies born with deformities from the mothers taking thalidomide. Is there any truth in that do you think?

Report
AnneEyhtMeyer · 17/01/2016 20:08

Yes it was, Need. I remember it being quite a common insult as a child.

Trixie has been ruined for me by Strictly Come Dancing. I did not like her at all on that.

Am curled up on sofa. Love the new uniforms but a bit worried about the Barbara/Tom possibility. Photographer is a bit odd just randomly following them like that.

AtiaoftheJulii · 17/01/2016 20:16

Yes, it was. Haven't heard it for many years thank goodness.

Babara and the Vicar are going to have a thing aren't they poor Trixie.

Report
foxessocks · 17/01/2016 20:22

The baby is a model not real. I read it in the radio times. Apparently the actors all took great care of it.

Report
misstiredbuthappy · 17/01/2016 20:24

You would know something was up by now wouldn't you. If you still hadn't seen your baby.

Report
AtiaoftheJulii · 17/01/2016 20:24

No, legs weren't ok.

Report
foxessocks · 17/01/2016 20:24

Yes I know it was normal to put the baby in a nursery but she hasn't even seen her once. I would be begging to see my baby!

Report
firefly78 · 17/01/2016 20:27
