US OPEN tennis thread- it's the last Grand Slam of the year- who will win?

Obviously, my heart wants Nadal to end a shit year, with a massive (if pretty unlikey) win. But hey, the defending champ is Marin Cilic- so who knows what will happen.Grin But he will face Coric in the first round, which might be tricky.

And Murray has Kyrgios. For a one-time only deal, I am firmly team Murray. The arrogant little Aussie needs to end 2015 with his tail between his legs- and come back next year more contrite. Of course, it has the potential to be as messy and sweary as their other encounters- which will trigger Nick's suspended ban. Here's hoping Grin

Hey Raahh Smile thanks for starting a new thread.

I'm team Murray all the way, but would love to see Rafa do well.

Go Andy & Vamos Rafa! Tennis

yay!!

It's not the easiest of GS's for me to 'watch' though we may have a slightly less than legal means to do so

I am looking forward to it.

Agree with you about the tail between the legs thing.

On Friday evening I was making a mad tear-stained dash from JFK to La Guardia airport (don't ask) and saw the signs for the US Open. Cheered me up Tennis

If Rafa doesn't do it, then Fed can. Or Stan.

Or Cilic, to prove all the doubters wrongGrin

love you Marin, but that won't happen

I am on holidays and banned from tennis, but I will sneak on when I can.

I am always rooting for Murray, although he winds me up.

It would be nice for Nadal to get to the semis at least. He has had a rough year so far.

Yes Fed to win. Don't think there's much chance of that though.

Shame they have slowed the courts and balls down so much at the hard court slams. If US Open was as fast as Cincy Fed would be a shoo in.
Still hoping though... That loss to Cilic in the semi last year sent me into a dark period of mourning what might have been.
Rafa, that is v sporting of you, even given your user name. fWIW, I agree Nadal is the best ever on clay!

I have just read saying this (reflecting on his teenage years, and after being beaten badly by Roddick), before his match against Coric.

Tennis“I always had the people around me,” reflected Nadal on his mindset as a teenager. “I listened to people who were trying to help me. I never was an arrogant guy. I never believed that I knew more than the people who were around me. They were older and they had more experience and they knew more about how things worked. I believed that one of the most important things I did in my career was listen to the people around me.” Tennis

Sounds like a certain Aussie could learn from that.

My user name is a little misleading. I prefer Fed to Rafa, but Rafa's name fitted better with a previous name.

IIRC AndyMurrayIsShitOnClay was the other option, but I didn't fancy getting lynched every time I left the Tennis threads. Grin

ANDY!! GO!! Tennis

I will be far, far away from the internet for most of the US Open but hope to (eventually) hear that Andy has won (again).

Ooh, ooh!! I have found I have Eurosport and it is showing the US Open. The sound quality is poor, and it is a women's match (and one of my least favourite ever players, Ivanovic)- but hey, it's TENNIS!

Cibulkova will be pleased if she wins this- especially in the absence of Shrieky.

Oh good, Cibulkova is through. She has very bright yellow trainers. Wouldn't be allowed at Wimbledon.

And Lyndsey Davenport is either 8 ft tall, or Cibulkova is tiny. Or standing in a hole.

When I worked at JL, and manned the reception desk people often asked me if I was standing in a hole. Rude sods. Grin

nishikori has lost- that has cheered me up.

I hope Cilic goes through- what are the odds on both of last year's finalists going out in the first round?! [Shock]

Jelena Jankovic has lost as well.
