New Phil & Kirsty - Love it or list it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big P&K fan but I don't get this. If you are considering moving why would you spend a huge amount of money renovating your own home?

I don't care, I love K&P and am happy with all the property (and Kirsties coat collection) to lust after!

Couldn't they have built an extension/ annexe on their current house for the elderly DPs?

Report
Cherrypie32 · 28/04/2015 21:15

I don't think they did as much to that house as they could have done. I agree, why not extend it and why didn't they have massive bi-folds put in to take advantage of the views with that amazing balcony? For the amount of people who needed to use the house the living space was still too small so why did they spend all that money?!!

I think the idea is if they still move then the work done increases the property value anyway and makes it sell quicker too

I think they also said that kirsty and Co didn't know an annexe was needed until work was already well underway as he ladies dad had been taken ill during the process and that's why they decided they needed room for her parents too.

I love kirstie and Phil too so have to defend them ! Grin

Although having said that I do have a criticism - the end was silly where they have to make a decision there and then over tea and kirstie and Phil do that silly "love it......or list it?" Twice they asked! Why not give them overnight or something and come back for their decision once it's made?

Other than that I'll defend them .

So they could only have improved this weeks house but where did Kirsty put all the toys, they suddenly disappeared from the downstairs!

They have this over here in Canada/US.

The premise, is that one of them HATES the house for various reasons, while the other loves it. The presenter tries to fix all the problems on the budget so the one who loves it can stay, while the other presenter finds a house that meets all their needs.

If the love what's been done, good investment. If not, sell at the now inflated price of supposedly increased value and buy the house the other presenter found.

In the Canada version whichever presenter loses buys the other a drink. Interestingly or not the female presenter is british.

I'd like to see the P&K version of it actually. They do get very samey after awhile.

Oh yes and there is always a curve ball that erodes the budget. Oh gosh, when we stripped back to the studs, we found asbestos/mould/leaking pipes/illegal wiring etc.... and will have to spend money to fix that, therefore you CAN'T have the ensuite you wanted, type of thing. Then the one that hates the houses gets really, really enraged, and they have a fake argument.

I'd imagine the bit where they decide is filmed after a few days when they have actually decided, or they film 2 endings and show the applicable one after the homeowner has made up their mind. They wouldn't decide within 5mins.

How could they have preferred to stay in their (pretty badly made-over - hated the floor covering in the kitchen diner, and décor in general) old house after seeing that new one???

Report
HerRoyalNotness · 05/05/2015 21:14

Did they stay then? Normally it's for sentimental reasons. I'll have to get DH to download it for me.

Oh I couldn't possibly say - it would spoil the suspense!

I have the feeling that whichever house they chose, the family would end up trashing it again!

I got that impression too Tilly. It's one thing not to be great at DIY, but to leave cupboard doors hanging off and wallpaper peeling is just lazy. It will probably be trashed again within a year. And what was going on with the pingpong table?

I love it but agree that house was awful last night. How have they put up with it for so long. The decor was Hmm and the kitchen floor was horrid. I loved that 4 bedroom house Phil showed them

Report
bigTillyMint · 06/05/2015 11:00

Thumbcat, that's exactly what I thought!

MrsDS, I think they must have been over-awed by Phil's house and knew they could never keep it like that!

Have people never heard of storage and decorating?Confused You don't move because you haven't done repairs on your house, how utterly bizarre!

I love programmes like this Grin

The houses they viewed last night were all worth way more than theirs is even with the increase after it was done up, it was a ridiculous comparison! I was very amused at the prospect of them moving towns next door to an outstanding primary school, like you will get both the kids in there immediately!!

The ping pong table drove me nuts too Shock. Why moan that the sitting room is so dark, then block the main source of natural light with a bloody ping pong table? Some people are beyond help. Just stupid Confused

And with have the table tennis table there at all when you could have it the huge she'd they had just outside on the decking.

Oh yes, it was because they 'loved their children' wasn't it? He spoke bollox most of the programme.

Seen both so far and personally if I had spent £28k on my home I would stay as well :)

Think the aim is to add value to your home so if you do sell or list it then sells quickly

If they moved then would add on extra £30/50k to their mortgage so I would stay love it
