Wtf?! I watch on iplayer so sorry if this has been done but just watched episode 6 series 3. I love Bluestone, funny, real (ish) and positive without being twee or propaganda. So what was that ending about...? Was it just a set up to show the colonel loosing his temper?

No I'm with you- watched yesterday on catch up and was wtf too! Was waiting for the last five minutes where the colonel would find him and send him home. Very odd!

Me too. That isn't the last series is it?!

I thought it was really weird too. I was expecting the rest of Bluestone 42 to get off the helicopter at the last moment and go and find him.

It was just a really flat, weird ending. Surely there must be a Christmas special or something coming up where they go and find him!

And it looked like he was having a real mental breakdown. Not funny unlike the rest of it

Glad it wasn't just me! I found it all rather sad. It seemed deliberately trying to be serious which can work in comedy - last
Scene of black adder goes fourth etc but this didn't work..

Actually I thought it was an appropriate - very sad - ending. For me, it was

"OK, we've all been having a bit of a laugh and it's been great fun but let's not forget that war and death and bombs are f*ing shit and that real people got hurt."

I don't think it's coming back - the production people gave away the plaque.

Ohno - I know what you mean. I think it deserved to have a thought provoking "this shit is real" type ending but not sure this was the way. Simon having PTSD or similar would have been poignant but instead he was in a cave with a face painted on a Gerry can.... It was too comic, if they were to show mental illness they should have done something more realistic, even tackling suicide or similar...

It was a very odd way to do a 'serious' ending.

It was a really good series, I've enjoyed them all, but this years was the best i think- because it balanced comedy with 'war is real and shit' quite well. Until the ending... which was just weird.

it did make me wonder if there are any documented cases of British soldiers going awol and staying to live their lives in Afghanistan?

I agree Lottie - thought it did realistic very well. I'd bet money some chap at headley court ( or similar ) has been sent a box of one legged/armed etc jelly babies by his team!
Not sure about the AWOL... Possible of course.

Just caught up too. A bit of an odd ending really.
