Anyone watching this? If so, do you think the interviewer is really crass?

A little bit, and the people are putting her in her place quite politely!

I had treatment for breast cancer there - it's quite interesting all the stuff about the flowers. I noticed the flowers all the time when I had to go there week in week out.

The alzheimer's patient is very sad.

Yes, it's terribly sad watching him. I can't see the point in paying for a placebo, can you?

I don't know why they are focusing so much on the flowers, though, do you?

I'm watching and I find her style of questioning very blunt!

It's interesting though.

I don't think the questions are appropriate. She's asking that poor girl with breast cancer about money when she's just been for news about her breast lump - I don't think that's an appropriate time to ask her questions like that.

I can't believe the interviewer asked the consultant what 5 x 30 was.

Maybe she's checking he can add up!

Either that or she was clumsily making a point...

So glad I am not alone re the interviewer! It is a really interesting program which is exploring lots of issues but she is fixated on the money point only and in a really aggressive style.

Off point but I think the Irish lady with breast cancer is the sister of the Snow Patrol singer. They seem a lovely family.

She is very rude to say to the husband what do you feel about 'throwing money at it'. How dare she, I am sure they thought a lot about cost. Not nice, or sensitive.

Really, kitty? But why is her mum paying then, and not him? He's a lovely guy - I would have thought he'd pay.

If it's Gary Lightbody you mean, he only has one sister, but the woman on the programme had a sister, so it mustn't be his sister.

I think the questions reflected what people want to know tbh. It's renowned for expensive 'posh' medical care. That doctor saying being a doctor is a poor choice for someone wanting to be rich came across as a bit of a knob tbh. Interesting in the people funded from abroad.

Interviewer - not my cup of tea. She asked some ridiculous questions & her manner was off.
Loved the show though.. Very interesting

One of the silliest questions was when she asked the Norwegian couple if they had a happy marriage.. Hmm

Yes, I thought that. Mind you, the woman wasn't too sure, was she?!

I think it is a matter of opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will watch next week. The documentary is a bit like sitting in a tea shop people-watching and then going up and asking people questions. The point is to find out why people are paying for a service they can get free on the NHS. The NHS doctors are the same ones on Harley Street. She is also trying to let us know that even though people tend to assume that it is the rich that pay for private care, infact there is no price that anyone would put on living a healthy and long life. Given the chance anyone would pay to see their GP quicker or get a scan result earlier. My take home message is get private insurance because even the doctors who have never needed it do.

We used Harley street clinics for the children a few times to queue jump - I can definitely understand choosing private. I should probably get insurance now, that's my message too.

agree,
the interviewer was not very BBC2

the doctors/surgeons were lovely.
it must be very satisfying, knowing you can get results and treatment so quickly.
although of course downside is being on call
but a reminder that the doctors are doing it to help people, rather than for the money. interesting point which i think we often forget.

i think you'd have to have very expensive insurance to afford Harley Street tbh.
I worked for a private consultant and a lot of patients did not have appropriate insurance Sad

I don't know that I'd be fussed about Harley street , more I was reminded we don't have it and some stuff is nicer than waiting on the nhs. I self funded private physio, private dermatology in the past (and the kids stuff yeArs ago) and it was really good to choose an appointment and get seen. Weirdly I'd probably want the nhs to do serious stuff!

I got really irritated with the interviewer when she was talking to the cycle courier and asking what he carried. You could tell she was dying for him to list all the most disgusting things possible.

I'm not sure that the downside for private doctors is being on call. As one of them pointed out, people who call them out in the middle of the night for apparently quite trivial reasons are paying for it. I suspect that it softens the blow when you go out at 2 a.m. to know that you are earning £1000 or more.

The style and aggression of the interviewer was hard to watch. I was hoping one of the interviewees would tell her to fuck off. She had zero compassion or empathy.

Yes, for the patients or doctors!

As a former journalist, I find her interviewing style shockingly amateurish, crass, unprepared, rude. Totally shambolic !

Just watching the last episode. Leeches?!! They use them in the NHS, I think for wound healing
