Greys Anatomy - Too many female leads?

there used be a really good balance in GA but now it feels like there are too many females

we used to have
George, Alex, Mark, Derek, Richard,Burke, Jackson, Weird bloke who left with Christina, Henry,

now we have
Alex, (after being away) Derek, Ben, Jackson, Owen

Females
Meredith, Callie, Arizona, Bailey, Jo, the other intern, April, Amelia, Dereks ex wife whatseface, Dr Herman, (having lost Christina, Dr Hahn, Teddy, 2 female interns)

I still love it, but i think when you notice an imbalance like that its annoying

Yup, totally agree. Need some eligible new men. Am getting a bit fed up with Greys now, no storyline is gripping me at all.

I like it (and you missed out the Chief, who is quite fun).

But I always thought it was female-dominated, because the central relationship was Christina and Meredith. I am still not sure what I think about them losing Christina.

Agree about the chief. I've always liked him even though they've given him a few weird storylines. I can take or leave Derek - didn't really notice he wasn't there. Jackson and Owen are okay-ish characters but they're not really making enough use of Alex. It would be great to have some more interesting men in it.

I don't think it's anywhere near as good without Cristina. Bailey's not as good as she was either. And I still find Meredith like nails on a blackboard. I love Callie and Dr Herman tho!

You and I obviously have the same taste, ivan. I can take or leave Derek too.

I don't like how they're doing Owen now - maybe if they pick it up. But he was a really interesting character at the start, and now his storylines are a bit wishy-washy.

I had a mad thought last week that I'd actually like to see Alex and Meredith together. Which would ruin it in all sorts of ways, as their prickly friendship deal is perfect and I do hate seeing people just shoved together who've never shown any interest before - but it made me realize how bad the general chemistry of the show has got, if I'm thinking that!

dragon - yes, I guess so ... it always felt to me as if most of the interesting ones were women, but then, there was also Izzie who was fucking annoying! Grin

Part of the problem is that the new male characters, like Bailey's husband, are just a bit dull.

I agree.

I still miss George and Izzy. I wish Katherine Heigl would come back for a guest appearance, her and Alex were so unfinished. I'd enjoy watching that reunion.

I miss George and Denny. Meredith is just pissing me off with her moaning miserable face.

I find it so hard to muster any enthusiasm for this season at all Sad

The storyline between Owen and Derek's sister (name escapes me!) leaves me cold and I just don't care about Callie and Arizona or Derek and Meredith any more.

Sigh, maybe I'm ready to stop watching it! Maybe ...

Yes... I think I may have to buy the box set and start at series 1 again... only Alex seemt to have retained any semblance of his original character.

Meredith always seems to have some strange whiney look on her face, April has been transformed from annoying little duffer into queen of the trauma room, Jackson hardly ever takes his shirt of anymore, Owen has gone all soft, Derek has just gone ( and I dont miss him either)

Bailey, Meredith, Callie / Arizona all have kids that no one ever sees

Definitely time for some new strong characters to come in

Oh I LOVED Denny! Time to start the box sets from the beginning I think....

They're on Netflix if you want to watch from the beginning. Or they were last time I checked.

Well, it makes a change from all the male dominated shows, with only a token female or two...

I'm still enjoying it, although I do find myself complaining at the TV about some of the more contrived story lines which - despite having no medical knowledge - I cannot believe would happen (can't think of a specific eg, but it's usually something to do with confidentiality/ethics where they're behaving as if they can just make it up as they go along).

As per lot of US series, the 'star' Ellen Pompeo just gets outshone by supporting cast. (Katherine Heigl et al). Same with Dawsons Creek, everyone raved about the actors who played Pacey and Jen. Dawson and whoever Katie Holmes played got sidelined and both off them have done little of note since.

Another example: Will & Grace main stars got totally outshone by stellar performance of actress who played drunken, medicated rich bitch Karen and the actor who played Jack, their gay friend across the hall.

I have a feeling there's going to be even fewer male leads shortly...
