This programme should be compulsory viewing. Everyone needs to watch this. We have all be sold a big lie on who is the bad guy..

Yes! Watching second ep now....trying not to shout at the telly too much, and it's not really telling me anything I didn't know, but I wished everyone realised what has been done...

DH and I found this truly shocking. We told people at work, who made polite "that's interesting" noises. And that's how they do it. Apathy.

(What did you think of the aristocratic woman at the polo telling the reporter how difficult it is to be so rich? Angry)

Oh yes apparently we are all simply envious of them.... Hmm

Oxfam making the point at the upcoming Davos meeting that the top 1% own more than 50% of world wealth.

Inequality is reaching crisis proportions and is leading to the outbreak of extreme conflict in the world.

sparkle it should be compulsory viewing shouldn't it. It's a tricky subject to understand though, I've read and watched quite a bit over the last 6 years and I still couldn't explain it all off the top of my head. I know we've been shafted though

Not only have we been shafted, but it also seems that we're being pitted against each other, taking the focus away from this...the whole divide & conquer thing (immigration, housing, baby boomers etc. etc.)

I watched this on i-player last night - And you're right - why are so few people angry about this? I'm shocked!! Not about how the super rich are getting richer and richer - but how much vitriol is directed at a few poor people with little education or ambition claiming £70 a week and yet the reason we are not getting pay rises and our homes are being bought from under us and sold off to foreign investors is not due to poor benefit claimants but these people.

We are racing to the bottom and they are racing to the top with our money!

There's a housing estate in Hendon North London, Barnet council GAVE the land to Barrett Homes who are evicting the tenants, demolishing their homes and building luxury apartments - Just WTF will it take for people to wake up and stop this!!?

Perhaps if we had put 'Benefit Scrounger' in the title of this thread there would be a huge response?

I don't get it Sad

I'm going on a demo with the people of Hendon on Thursday - I'm doing my bit - I've demonstrated with the New Era estate too - we have to stand up to this social cleansing.

Its rife in London but its happening everywhere now, Cardiff, Swansea, Manchester....What will it take for the public to stand up to our politicians and demand change?

The only reason Government want the super rich here is to make our GDP look good - This growth we are experiencing is only because of the super rich - nothing to do with our wages increasing (which they haven't for 20 years) or jobs being created.

Trickle down is a lie - Gushing up is more like the truth Angry

Some politicians were talking about inequality on QuestionTime on the radio. They were all saying that inequality doesn't matter, only poverty matters. Basically, as long as everyone has basic food and shelter, so not completely destitute, all is well in this country and there is no cause for complaint.

i'm furious about what's going on between the sheets of the government and the super rich too. why do they think that it's ok to use the everyday hard working and honest person as a footstool to the table of the fat cats? Did you guys hear some of those execs revealing that they were earning millions in bonuses back in the 90's??! Then on the other side of Canary Warf there are parents fighting over how the last £10 was spent and children walking to school with holes in their shoes.

Furthermore one analyst said that if people have mortgages then they can't go out on strike- true. But then renting gives equally no long term security.

Report
meglet · 21/01/2015 22:11

I thought the mortgage comment was interesting too.
