Because I don't. Not sure if it's because she reminds me of someone I didn't gel with or just her attitude

You sort of do... and then you don't. .. and then you do... its a bit like that with all the characters including Walt. It's great.

Nervo · 14/12/2014 14:29

I only ever liked Hank out of the whole sorry mess.

foslady · 14/12/2014 14:32

Thank God for that! Walter I started off thinking poor bloke, then flipping between mild admiration for being able to be a player and wanting to scream 'NOOO - stop being an arse' at him! I agree re Hank though - he's the one my sympathy's - and also Walt Jnr (but I'm only half way through series 3 at the moment!)

Ps - this is only because it's fictional - real life I wouldn't want to know any of them!!!

Yes i loved hank too!

Agree that i think we are supposed to veer between liking and disliking them all. Which is what i love about it because it makes them so real. Even the lovely jesse had me not liking him at times. Wont post spoilers for you though Grin

Enjoy OP!

Mitchy1nge · 14/12/2014 14:38

none of the characters are very likable are they

I wanted them all to die!

Nervo · 14/12/2014 14:38

I've still to watch the final season. Not that fussed tbh. Dh and I kept waiting for it to get good and it never really did. Not compared with The Wire.

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 14:39

I envy you. I'd love to be only starting out with Breaking Bad. The third last episode -Ozymandias - will stay with me as the best thing I have ever seen on screen though I don't think I will ever be prepared to watch it again.

awaynboilyurheid · 14/12/2014 18:18

No never warmed to the wife, but think that's the charterer she plays I liked walt at times then really disliked him as it progressed. Another one who loved Hank and Mike .Wish I was watching for the first time loved this series!! My OH and I used to say can we watch just one more ? even if it was late at night it's soooo good.

Vivacia · 14/12/2014 18:24

Hank's a bit of a gobshite at first though, isn't he?

HollyBdenum · 14/12/2014 18:35

I didn't like Hank, although he grew on me in later seasons. He starts off as someone whose morality is based on part of a group of good guys, but doesn't really think things through or have any empathy towards outsiders. I see pre-Mexico Hank as the sort of cop who would cover up for a colleague accused of raping a junkie or beating up a suspect, and he doesn't look good in his dealings with Jesse.

Pagwatch · 14/12/2014 18:39

Couldn't stand her.
Loved Mike. Loved Jesse.

Totesnamechanged · 14/12/2014 18:40

I never really liked hank, loved Mike and loved Jesse.

It's definitely my favourite series, closely followed by homeland and Dexter. The writing in breaking bad is superb

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 18:52

I found myself warming to Marie towards the end which surprised me. For me though, it was all about Walter White. I rooted for him and was repulsed by him in equal measures. I loved and hated what he became. I found the depth written into his character and the portrayal by Bryan Cranston to be simply superb.

foslady · 14/12/2014 19:09

It's ages since I got caught up in a series - dd has been away for the weekend at her dads so it's been on non stop!
Agree about the writing and casting/acting, I think that's why I'm hooked!

Ive just watched the first series, am currently deciding whether to watch series 2. I've got them all on DVD but feel a bit meh about it.

I don't like any characters.

Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 21:10

It takes until about season 3 to REALLY get into it. I think I took a break somewhere in the second season. It is worth it. Stick with it.

foslady · 14/12/2014 21:53

OH GOOD GOD - just got to the main event of series 3, Jessie is SOOOO slappable!!!!

OP posts:
Imscarlet · 14/12/2014 21:59

It's all ahead of you. How many episodes a night are you on? I used to average about 3.

foslady · 14/12/2014 22:18

2 or 3, I have to wait until dd has gone to bed! Done a series and a half this weekend though! Struggled a bit with series 2 but it's getting good again (and from this thread see I wasn't the only one)

OP posts:
SecretSquirrels · 21/12/2014 09:28

I'm just on series 3 but I'm watching with DS at uni. Saw series 1 and 2 in September and had to wait until this week to pick it up again.
I don't warm to Skyler stupid name. Walt Junior has really grown on me.
Hank is difficult because I'm watching Under the Dome at the same time and get the characters confused.
Mostly I want to slap Jesse for his clothes and mumbling but I'm usually too sorry for him.
The bit where Walt let the girlfriend die was a shocker. Too grim to watch.
Love it really Grin

Apparently the writers had meant Skylar to be largely sympathetic and were quite shocked when the audience reacted so strongly against her. I think you do sympathise with her more as the series reaches its conclusion but as a p&p pointed out, no character is entirely likeable, which is part of what makes it such great tv!

YoooSkylaaaarrrrrggghh · 21/12/2014 15:43

I love them all.......Enjoy!

GahLinDah · 21/12/2014 15:51

I think the only one I liked throughout was Walt Jr. Such a sweet and good character, a massive contrast to the darkness going on around him.

I disliked Hank, I don't know why.

Walter was brilliantly written and acted (still can't believe it's MITM Hal), I was so conflicted with him and was happy with the ending.
I really felt for Jesse, though he was a nob at times, he was Mr Smalltime who got caught up in an awful spiral.

I loved Breaking Bad, wish I could watch it all over again with new eyes.
