Monday 9.00pm channel 4

I'm definitely watching this and I hate to admit it but years ago i was infact one of those ignorant people who thought young girls had babies to get houses, benefits etc etc. I saw the clips for the show and felt so sorry for the girl who was upset about her child living in a cold house, but i suppose there are going to be folk who say you made your bed lie in it. This is going to be a very interesting and sad watch

Saw this as "critic's choice" in the papers today and sounds interesting.

I don't have television but would like to know what the programme was like and what everyone else thinks after watching this.

It will make me cry, mainly beacuse although I was never a teenage mums i have lived in similar situations to many of the teenage mums I work with such as hostels, B&Bs arguing iwht benefits offices etc. Will ahve to wtach it several times before showing it to my classes so I don't start to blub in front of them!

my sister was a teenage mum, infact 2 of my sisters were and they both ended up in council flats in not so nice areas and they did have it tough, I vowed never to have children until I'd done what i wanted to do with my life (i have a gorgeous 14th dd now) but i sometimes feel my sister missed out

My SIL was a teen mum two times over.

It was hard going, b/c she also had an abusive partner.

But she finished her hairdressing qualifications in May and has been working in a job she loves.

She is in council housing but w/hope she will be living in our building soon w/her two sons!!

SO proud of her.

It will have DH in bits, he can't watch anything like this. Bless him. We will watch it though.

I want to see this too. Good to see a thoughtful, objective documentary on the subject.

at damp houses and chips and peas for tea.

Am also watching..very sad about the tea for the kids I will say some people I know living on benefits etc have been extremly lucky and have 2 bed houses etc in semi decent areas so think it depends where you are and when.

'I will say some people I know living on benefits etc have been extremly lucky and have 2 bed houses etc in semi decent areas so think it depends where you are and when. '

That's really lucky. Chances of that happening here in Edinburgh are astronomical.

This girl has been through the mill and she's only 20!

How shameful, in a nation as wealthy as this . . .

Expat I used to work on a estate in liverpool where a few of the pnd mums had a lot of money and had been given decent houses in the process of being redone with new bathrooms/kitchens windows etc although I do know it is rare. I also know we live as a family on less than some of them had.

It is awful what some people are subjected to when others lie and cheat and steal their way to things they are not entitled to and get away with it!

her mother is awful but I can understand the 'shes my mum' disappointment and responsibility to being her daughter

My step kids mum has had some lovely houses from the council over the years, including new builds. She has recently been given a 5 bedroomed house on a new estate.

I wanted to watch this but totally forgot it was on until I just saw this thread. I haven't seen any adverts but saw it in the tv magazine. Is it a one off or a series?

Is/ was it any good?

That's hard to believe that can happen in the UK.

Guess there are more houses elsewhere.

They're a real rarity here.

Report
bubblerock · 14/08/2006 21:31

Definately! Also depends where you live, we were in Cheltenham and had a lovely 2 bed flat given to us within 6 months - without a permanent child! It helped us start out and we only stayed a little while before buying a house.
