how I met your mother series 9 - starts Thursday!!

I've seen 3 episodes of series 9. I hope the Internet theory that the mother dies isn't true although I have a suspicion that Robin or barney might die.

the writers said a main cast character dies.

Based on what I've seen, the mother's personality isn't what I expected it to be.

Any predictions on how it'll end?

Someone dies? I'm on episode 14 and all still alive. Some truly shit episodes and some brilliant ones.

That's what the writers said in a press conference. They made The Mother a main cast member so I wonder if that's who dies?

I'm guessing it'll be revealed in the final ever episode.

I enjoyed and thought the last episode was good - how your mother met me. Didn't expect her to be like that. I guess I always thought Victoria would be the mother.

There's something Ted said to his children in one episode early in the series which made me think the mother was going to die - it was one of the "truly shit" episodes (thanks TheNight - exactly what I think of the series so far, I wondered if I was just being a grump when I found some of the episodes totally unfunny).

I wasn't sure whether to say it in case it was a bit of a spoiler for people who hadn't seen it but since you're asking!

It's the episode where it's all about "what if I'd done this instead of that" sort of thing, if I remember rightly, and it ends with Ted saying something like "I would have done anything if it meant spending another second with your mother" - not that but along those lines, I'm rubbish at remembering! But it definitely gave the impression that he wasn't going to be spending any time with her any more, and I wondered if the whole basis for telling the kids how he met their mother was because they'd just lost her

I think Barney might die. I read a theory once that he's never referred to like he's alive to the kids, whereas the others are.

I think it's ted and the kids are watching a video as he explains how he met the mother.

That would fit TheNight and chanie...do the kids ever talk back? They roll their eyes when Ted goes off on a tangent but I'm sure I remember them saying the odd thing too - or am I wrong?

The kids interact with ted though don't they? And in the first episode don't they say "are we being punished?" When he says hes going to tell them how he met their mother.

If the mother is dead wouldn't that be massively inappropriate?

Doesn't ted refer to barney as uncle barney?

I thought it may have robin who dies as ted tells his children about 'uncle Barney's wedding'. If Barney and robin were married and robin were still alive, surely he would have said it was Barney and robins wedding.

Unless there is some story behind why it's called Barney's wedding which I missed.

The story starts with ted meeting Robin I wonder if it concludes with her dying in the future (2030).

We know she's definitely alive when Marvin is 17 (mike tyson story)

Yes in the first series the kids would respond to red but now they don't, I think just so they can re-use the same footage of the kids . Ted definitely refers to 'your aunt robin' AND I remember when he said something like "I would have done anything for extra time with your mother" but I decided not to be morbid and to assume the best not the worst... But you do see lots of flash forward things with Lily and Marshall so it can't be one of them... Noooo I don't want any of them to die!

Very excited about the new series, I hope it's good.
Dh has a theory (general wondering about what it means)based on the episode that had ted in the bar by himself and barney arrived saying it wasnt real and that this happened months or years ago.(can't remember) then he ran to the mothers house. So he thinks ted dies or is in a coma.

I'm placing my bets that it's Ted who dies but in the present (when he's telling the story). Like he's ill and dying and that's why he's telling them how he met their mother. And he will finish the story, with the last episode switching back to him and the children in the present day and then he will die.

Either that or the mother.

The 45 extra days speech was moving wasn't it.

Sometimes I find Ted to be a massive jerk like he just wont let Robin be happy with barney but that speech made me feel sorry for him.

If ted is dying the kids seem awfully rude and blasé about hearing their dying father talk

I think the mother dies. Fits in with the whole max thing, the time travellers speech and making her main cast member when she's not in it that much.

Could explain why after all those years why marshall opened Lilys death letter. The death could've prompted him to open Lilys letter.

In the flash foward of their college reunion Teds crying laughing saying "where's my wife?" After smoking a sandwich. Wonder if this means she's alive?

Good point about the kids hmmm this is hard! That's where's my wife bit could mean she's dead too. Like the kind of laughing you do before you cry. "Where's my wife? She should be here too..." type thing?

And oh dear a spin off? Does that mean the mum will be telling the kids and therefore is alive?!

So maybe it's Barney or Robin. We've got to get this.
There must be a clue somewhere

Well I'd heard no rumors. Putting spoiler alert before giving away any major plot line would have been nice, to late now. I didn't read past the first post, goes off grumpily...........
