I'm looking forward to it starting again. I've been working my way through the DVDs so am pleased the new ones start soon.

And they say we'll eventually find out who Red John is this series!

I like cho. He's so blunt. Probably would hate him if I knew him in real life but funny on tv.

I've missed the last series but I reckon I can pick it up. Summary of series five would seem to be......... the hunt for red john continues. Look forward to finding out who it actually is. The 7 suspects identified though, are they recurring characters? I don't remember many of them.

I've managed to watch it. It's very good!

Can't believe Lisbon went off in a strop though, and then went in a deserted house on her own when she was already worried about Red John... I'd have gone nowhere near until the FBI arrived!

I thought that too polka
Loving it so far, hope they reveal Red John soon though, I think they can continue without this storyline.

I've read somewhere it's in the middle of this series, I don't think we have to wait right until the end, maybe episode 7/8?

I wonder whether they'll carry on with red in the title of every episode afterwards? They must be running out of ideas by now!

What do we think is going to happen? (PLEASE DO NOT POST IF YOU ACTUALLY KNOW)

I think RJ is going to kill one of the 7 suspects in every episode until there are none left and THEN... I don't know what will happen then. Confused

I think it may be the homeland guy or Bertram, my reasoning is:
Sheriff guy no charisma (how would be charm everyone to do what he wants) and older than middle aged
FBI guy -ditto but too young
Brett Stiles - could be him but too old??
Think creepy whistling bloke a red herring.

I don't have a clue though really...

Does anyone know if there will be another series?
I am avoiding googling as don't want to find anything out about series 6 (made that mistake once).

DipMeInChocolate · 12/11/2013 09:05

I reckon Homeland guy too.

We watch it on Demand Five rather than when it's broadcast. We missed the start of the series too, and watched the first and second episodes back to back on Saturday. Think you might just be able to still get the first, can definitely get the second still.

yep - episode one is available for 'about 5 hours' so that will be until tonight's episode is broadcast.

Homeland guy is really creepy, and wasn't he the one who broke in and photographed Jane's board? That might have helped him work out who the seven people on his list were.

I agree with Holla, I think we'll kill off one or two per episode until we get down to two and then he'll see them together and have to decide which is the real RJ.

I wondered if some of them were linked somehow - you know like in Murder on the Orient Express when they all seem separate, but are really connected. But then I wondered how many serial killer's friends you'd find in the top levels of law enforcement Confused

Hmmm. Tonight's episode was rather too sweet. I suggest that happiness may not last the series out.

I did like it though Smile Although, do they not have to sign a register in America?

Also, why didn't Jane go to their wedding properly (rather than looking around the door). I could see he was upset, but didn't understand why, did I miss something? The other wedding didn't worry him.

Yes I wondered about that Polka maybe he was sorting out the gun salute?

Any more theories on red john??

I would love it if it was a massive twist and it turned out to be Grace Van Pelt (red hair. Too tenuous?!)
I don't know enough about the suspects to really care if it was one of them.

Report
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/11/2013 19:08

I always look out for the other red-haired lady, there's one in every episode.

I don't think it can be Grace, surely she's too young?

Nah, it's not Grace, but it would be a good twist if it was.

Red John is Moriarty as Patrick Jane is Holmes. Lisbon=Watson, the rest of the team= Lestrade etc etc.

So, I don't think any of these last suspects are Red John at all. One or more of them could be proxies, perhaps closer proxies than (e.g.) Lorelei was, or unwittingly being manipulated. Those who have been manipulated, are innocents and would therefore realise and help Jane, they get murdered (e.g. the shrink. Perhaps also the forensic guy - what might he have discovered that would unravel a little more?)

Just realised, the narrowing it down to seven was on the basis of someone Jane had shaken hands with. That's the clue that ran through the last episode of (new) Sherlock too! I still haven't worked that one out but am tending towards an electronic handshake as in TCP/IP.

Am trying not to get all that wrapped up in this because I don't think the Mentalist has ever had the budget or the writers to really skilfully design Agatha Christie level plots, especially not this long running, or Conan Doyle chains of clues. They're going to pull something out of nowhere and we'll be supposed to go "AHHH! didn't see that link at all!" probably because it was never there.

I wonder if Van Pelt might be one of Red John's disciples. If not, I reckon her or Rigsby might get killed.

Also I suspect Brett Partridge isn't really dead. We never saw the body...

Van pelt had that weird red John boyfriend didn't she. I think she and Lisbon are involved.
