I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

This is where I regret not persuading DH to keep the Sky for a few more months...

specialsubject · 12/10/2013 14:04

the one time ever I would want Sky.

Oh well, back to the DVDs.

I'm freaking excited!! I have been watching my favourite season on Wuaki recently! For the build up! It's been emotional :)

Grrr, we have no choice - we can't receive Sky here even if we wanted to....

that 1st doctor aztec long episode was hilarious! DCV laughing head off.

thing is we're spoilt these days with sfx, and other tv technology and in those days it must have been awesome, but the toy tardis at the beginning sooooo obvious, the bad acting, the screen backdrop of the axtec city, classic so-bad-its-good stuff!

Making up for missing it by downloading The Web of Fear from iTunes -they've done a very good job on it, looks better than when it was first shown 45 years ago.

My 6 year old LOVED the cybermen, sat rapt through the whole thing. I'm quite moved ;)

Same here, it was brilliant, and the cybermen were more scary than the cureent ones, especially in black and white, and the bit where they emerged from heir tombs.

WE LOVE TROUGHTON!never seen his epsodes before. think hes now my fave doctor.see where Matt Smith gets it from, fab stuff.(well, fave until Capaldi takes over!)

Frazier Hines was quite fit when young too!

KayHarker · 13/10/2013 20:23

Yeah, I'm surprised at the lukewarm reception this thread has received. Time was a Who thread was a hive of activity

I guess a lot of Who fans have moved on :(

There were some pretty active threads around the time of the last series - maybe it's because this is only on Watch, not BBC. Hopefully we'll all be out in force as the 23rd gets closer!

The Web of Fear was a great nostalgia-fest, though it's sad that the episode that's still missing is the one where the Brigadier (then a Colonel) made his first appearance.

I've nc-ed, but I was on the threads last year (and the last Torchwood one, but the less said about that the better...). I'm really looking forward to the 50th anniversary.

Have you seen the Lakeland stuff? I'm not going to tell you how much I bought Blush

Report
BurlyShassey · 14/10/2013 19:43

yes we got a few Lakeland bits.
but im sure loads of people have sky tv!

come on Whovians, (ive n'cd too recently so im a whovian from other threads too) its true there were threads 5 miles long before about the last series and the Peter capaldi stuff etc.

What no old pre-tennant fans there? my DC LOVES the old doctors.

I don't have Watch so didn't join this. Usually a DrWho name though and a regular on the threads but have name changed loads in the last few years.

Ds1 enjoyed The Attack of the Cybermen earlier. He's getting to be quite the expert. Not sre how I feel about him getting into Colin Baker, though that's pure prejudice on my part (he killed my Doctor  )

So good to see the older episodes and stories on. I Envy the people who only discovered it since it came back, they have so much to watch pre 2005. I'm watching Terror of the Zygons tonight it arrived in the post today Grin

We watched Web of Fear at the weekend - the one where the Great Intelligence used the Yeti to take over the Underground - remember the reference in the Snowmen Christmas Special?

Now I really want to download Enemy of the World, but I have to wait until DH gets back from Halifax on Friday, because it wouldn't be fair to watch it without him.

Me and the DC have been attempting to watch the entire show, renting the DVDs from LoveFilm. We've got as far as the third doctor at the moment! The effects and monsters and some costumes are hilarious, but the storries are fantastic. The Aztecs was a particular favourite of our, where we see the same dilema that faced DT's doctor at Pompeii about meddling with history. It's also quite dark at times - I wonder if they'd show scenes of human sacrifice on tea time TV today?

Report
Kasterborous · 14/10/2013 22:17

Ooh what story are you up to Asheth? Are you watching them in story order or just which one you fancy.

Report
OohDoctorDarcy · 15/10/2013 07:20

asheth is lovefilm well stocked then? Maybe we could do that when I unpack my DVDs and fill in the gaps.

burly can't get sky here even if we wanted it. No dishes allowed. I wanted virgin but can't get that either.

I have had this MN nickname since I joined over 10 years ago, I claim the crown of greatest DW fan! Except I don't know half as much as some people on here. DD and I watched Planet of the Daleks last week and she loved it. She wanted Daleks and I wanted Jon Pertwee, my and DH's Doctor with Tom Baker. I caught a little but on Watch but I need time to look properly and catch up

Grin at Davros. I've 'met' you lots of times on Dr Who threads. Think I'm coming to my 10 year anniversary, anyone remember how to check?

Kasterborous We've just started Dr Who and the Silurians. We're trying to watch them in story order, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes we have to wait ages for one - like we did with the pilot - An Unearthly Child and watched some others in the mean time. But we don't move on to the next Doctor until we've watched everything we can find on that doctor.

Lovefilm seems to have quite a good stock Darcy There are gaps from the first two doctors. I'm not sure it that's just the missing episodes or i it's possible to find those elsewhere. I think the third doctor is almost complete. I haven't looked beyond that yet. The only problem I find is that putting the actors name into the search doen't seem to bring many results so we have to put Dr Who and then trawl through loads to find the Doctor we want!
