Twin Peaks (inspired by The Returned)

The Returned reminds me of the odd and scary Twin Peaks.

Everyone sneakily watched and talked about it at school, it was pre on-demand days so required cunning!

Killer Bob was terrifying, stopping me from watching it again!

Kyle mclachlan was great in it, he's aged (unlike viewers, of course)

I adored Twin Peaks but I live a lot of David Lynch films too (I'm odd like that). I wish they'd re-run it.

Is The Returned all subtitled or did I just catch the only bit?

All subtitled, but slow dialogue and lots of quiet bits, so not too distracting, and makes you feel clever for "understanding" french!

Oh how I loved Twin Peaks! They'd never get away with showing that on a terrestrial channel now; even back in the day as I recall it was tucked away on a late-night slot that changed from week to week depending on what the football was doing.

Crikeyblimey, I like every David Lynch film that I've seen. I think he's brilliant.

I am enjoying The Returned. I would say it's more Lost than Twin Peaks though. But then I am biased because I think there's not much that can touch Twin Peaks.

Twin Peaks was great!

My favourite characters were Leyland Palmer and The Log Lady.

I loved that program so much. It was always repeated on another day the same week - I watched it both times every week just to try and understand it.

Loved the soundtrack too

Loved Twin Peaks

Love David Lynch films. 'Lost Highway' is in my top 5 films ever. Liked Mulholland Drive too

Hate hate hated Blue Velvet. But I think it's because Laura Dern makes me feel stabby.

Could devour a TP box set right about now Smile

I loved Twin Peaks. Audrey Horne was my style heroine for ages - those tweed skirts and Young Liz Taylor make-up and tight jumpers. I can still remember the crawl of horror that went over my skin when she went undercover at One Eyed Jacques', and her dad turned up, and insisted on trying out the new girl... Ugh.

Went a bit weird at the end, with Annie and all that Lodge business, but some of it was genuinely terrifying. Leon's violence hanging over Bobby and that lovely waitress girl, and Leland Palmer, and Bob in the corner of the room. Huge part of my teenage landscape.

Do you remember when Audrey knotted a cherry stalk in her mouth to impress Agent Kyle? Twas a scene I've never forgotten...!

Oh yes ladytron, that was memorable!

Had forgotten the music too, we used to have it and once had it playing while on a family car trip en route to Scotland, Grampian mountains at night, spoooooky!

There was also a laura palmer's diary book, with sex bits, it was passed round!

I was about 15 when it was first shown - my friends would come round mine every week and we would all watch it in my bedroom. I was obsessed with it! I tried re-watching it about a year ago as DH hadn't seen it and had bought the DVDs. After a few episodes I had to tell him to go on without me - it was sooo slooow I was almost in tears waiting for each episode to end.

Still terrified of Bob - my neighbour looks just like him and really gives me the creeps. He was walking past once and looked in and I said ' oh no, Bob from Twin Peaks is looking at me'. Unfortunately the window was wide open and he heard me. Blush

Amazing series. I'm still angry at David Lynch for not properly finishing it off with a third series or explaining what happened to Agent Cooper...

Report
Wallison · 17/06/2013 11:18

I think Lynch kind of lost control of the 2nd series because of pressure from the network. The ending of it is monumental though.

Here is the bonsai scene - I love Youtube sometimes!:
