Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2013 15:53

starts tonight (friday) 9pm ITV

3 parter about two friends - Serena and Poppy who were teenagers in 1995

Serena was seeing their teacher Marcus who then gets murdered

Poppy serves 17years and is now released though said she didnt do it

Serena acquitted and hasnt told anyone including hubby her past

Be interesting if story follows the book - unlike Crickly hall which changed things :(

Ooh, thanks for the reminder. I enjoyed the book so will be interested to see if they stick to it.

petal2008 · 19/04/2013 16:55

From reading the TV write up about the first episode it doesn't look like they will be following the book closely.

In the first episode it says that Serena moves from Leeds to the south coast to look after her sick mother. Don't remember that in the book - it was Poppy who searched out Serena who was already living on south coast with hubby and two children.

I won't be watching - I hate it when they change things for no reason. Plus it's on ITV so will be full of bloody adverts.

I've never heard of the book but i'll be watching.

MrsTomHardy · 19/04/2013 21:09

I've never heard of it either but will def be watching.

cogitosum · 19/04/2013 21:11

I've read the book and started watching.. Not too close to the book so far

MrsTomHardy · 19/04/2013 21:16

Is it worth a read??
I might download it onto my kindle if so Smile

MikeLitoris · 19/04/2013 21:16

I'm watching. Only because I haven't read the book.

I'm finding the jumping back and forth annoying so far.

NuhichNuhaymuh · 19/04/2013 21:18

just turn on, what have I missed?

cogitosum · 19/04/2013 21:20

It's ok. A kind of mixture between chicklif and crime/suspense

TantrumsAndBalloons · 19/04/2013 21:20

It's not anything like the book so far is it?

TattooEnvy · 19/04/2013 21:26

Is anyone else finding it a bit slow?

My sister suggested that I watch it but I'm nearly falling asleep!

Currido · 19/04/2013 21:30

I'm enjoying it because it is fillmed in my home town of Bray in Ireland! My brothers used to work on the waltzers and fairground.
Those beach huts are new though!

MrsTomHardy · 19/04/2013 21:35

I'm finding it a bit slow....nearly nodding off...I might try the book

NuhichNuhaymuh · 19/04/2013 21:43

was all of it filmed in Bray Currio?

Currido · 19/04/2013 21:48

Dont think so. We dont have a local prison! All the beach scenes and the house is in Bray . They obviously took english reg cars over to put in shot as the irish ones are fuzzy.

NuhichNuhaymuh · 19/04/2013 21:54

missed the first part so didnt see the prison bit!!!

So much stuff is filmed here, My office door keeps popping up in "london" Smile

rainbowslollipops · 20/04/2013 06:44

I really enjoyed it! Usually dramas can drag a bit for me but I'm hooked so far!

diddl · 20/04/2013 15:25

It didn't really grip me, but I want to know who did it & why!

So if Poppy says that she didn't do it-does that mean that Serena did it & got off because her family could afford better lawyers/coach her?

Or did they both do it together?

He's an abuser but Poppy got 17yrs(?)-so it wasn't believed to be self defense?

It was someone he'd abused in the past or a partner??

Well, at least it's only a couple of weeks to find out!!

Don't really like the Serena character though, so that doesn't help!!

The book is great but this is not a good adaptation and Poppy was not a stroppy teenager who hated her nasty stepfather! In fact I thought one of the saddest aspects of the book was that because her mother was unwell when she was growing up Poppy had a really good relationship with her dad but he couldn't cope with what he thought his 'little' girl had done and shut himself off. Her mother does try to explain to Poppy (when she's released from prison) why he can't bring himself to talk to her and also explains that there was nothing they could do to for Poppy once she was convicted but they had to protect the twins from the media.

Yes Petal 2008 I also hate it when they change the plot of a much loved book just for the sake of it

Watched it last night .
Not much like the book , and the book is much better in my opinion .
Dorothy Koonsom is one of my favourite authors .
Another very good read is ' The Woman He Loved Before '

Groovee · 20/04/2013 16:49

I read the book about 3 years ago, so for me it is better to not watch something after reading as it annoys me. Harry Potter infuriates me at times x

sunshinenanny · 20/04/2013 21:37

diddl, read the book if you want to be gripped! much better, really good ending; But I doubt if this 3 parter will stick to it!

Blonds I think they are trying to be clever and think they can improve on the author, I prefer it when the author adapts his or her own work for the screen it rarely works when someone else does it as their ego takes over.

It's sometimes neccesary to make minor alterations to a story for filming but this goes far beyond that
