DS2 has recently discovered Frasier which means we have been watching an awful lot of it. I'd forgotten how unbelievably funny and clever it is - it never assumes that the audience is stupid, the acting is consistently brilliant (ridiculous English Moon brothers aside). I'm getting a bit obsessed with the celebs who voice the radio call-ins - list here.
Any other fans?
Love the series. Especially Three Valentines, and the Christmas episode where Frasier brings home a Jewish(?) girlfriend and Niles bursts out of the bathroom dressed as Jesus as he's in a nativity play.
One of my favourite lines is when Daphne is waxing lyrical about finding a "real man" whilst Niles hurriedly scrunches up the napkin he was using to make an origami figure.
D: "was that a little swan you just made?"
N: "no, it was a B-52"
Frasier - simply the best
I love Niles. He is so perfectly cast
One of my favourite bits is the end of the Bad Boy / Dirty girl episode. Daphne to Eddie " have you been in the bin again you bad boy !!"
I've just watched the one were Martin buys Frasier a painting from a restaurant and he hates it, but daren't tell him. I cried proper tears at that one. Very emotional.
Officer Nasty - the stripper Frasier tries to hire and accidentally cuffs himself to.
Oh and when Frasier dresses as a clown to scare his dad and Martin has a heart attack.
Frasier and Niles fawning over hand towels whilst a pregnant Daphne looks on.
Pure class.
Just finished watching the Alaskan Cruise one on C4 when they all end up in Meris' bathroom. Fantastic.
"Is the hat rack moving?" One of my favourite lines of the show.
Love it!
The complete set is down to 56 pound on amazon down - back in stock shortly.
I know because after looking at it yesterday to see if it was the set I have, the bloody advert has been chasing me around the internet all day
Love it so much. I've got the box set but have never got through the whole thing. Time to try, I think!
I think my favourite episode is the one where Niles hosts the party to unveil a new painting. Also when they open the restaurant! Any episode involving dinner was usually a winner.
My favourite is when Frasier and Niles have to go to Mechanics School. They are rubbish so decide to be cheeky and bad.
And I can't remember the episode but the line I'll always chuckle over:
"Copernicus called and it turns out that you're not the centre of the universe."
Niles to Frasier I think it was.
Just googled, it was an episode called 'We Two Kings' and it was:
- Niles is tired of fighting with Frasier over Christmas:
Niles: Why do you have to make everything so difficult?
Frasier: Niles, I've got news for you - Copernicus called and you are not the centre of the universe!
What about the episode where Niles has a duel with Maris' fencing instructor while the Spanish maid is translating from German to English?
Turns out the fencing instructor was having an affair with the maid and not Maris.
"He didn't steal.... Your shoes!"
Happy to find this thread. My favourite is "they're playing our tune" - Frasier decides his show needs a new jingle and ends up conducting an orchestra with a full choir and including a monologue from Niles.
Frasier - Our show deals with the whole range of human emotion from euphoria to despair and nothing says despair so quickly as the scurl of a bagpipe.
Roz - Nothing says "turn off the radio" so quickly either.
I've found a great Youtube thing - looks like a bloopers/outtakes reel but includes some interviews with the cast and great clips - here.
another fan here too.
love niles. loved it when he and daphne finally got together
one of my fave episodes was when roz met the parents of her baby's dad. oh the noses... has me in stiches every time!
we only own series 4... one day i will own them all
I've been working my way through it for months now, a mat leave bonus (thanks C4)! I'd forgotten there were so many episodes, only 84 (saved) to go I think.
Niles was always my favourite, just adorable. I love Lilith too. In fact I always thought Frasier himself was intended to be an unsympathetic character, being so pompous and vain, an anti-hero, providing a central focus for the likeable characters. Apparently not everyone sees it that way.
After many years I grasped that we might feel sympathy for Frasier's lack of self-awareness, vulnerability and constantly being misunderstood (because he's so pompous and vain...) but I still can't feel charmed by him.
Love the show though (except when it descends into real slapstick) and am still a bit shocked that the 1990s were 'a long time ago' though can see from the programme that, in some ways, they were.
Box set on the way!
My favourite line and one that is now in our family :
"We leave at nine-ish". (Said emphatically by Frasier after being called on his "we leave at daybreak" line)
In our family we always leave at nine-ish
Anyone remember the bit when the present for Frasier's some got lost?
'The Cranes from Maine have your living brain!' Brilliant
Frasier's SON!
Frasier is just wonderful. I think I love him because although he is arrogant and snobbish, there's a kind man in that character somewhere. It's a gentle humour. And sooo witty.
My favourite episode, has anyone mentioned it so far? is when Frasier is 'helping' at Niles's proposal to Daphne. The turtle doves and the madrigal-singing dwarfs being marshalled on and off as the proposal is on, then off, then on again.
Oh I loved the proposal episode
I watched a classic with Bebe at her worst today, and then found YouTube compilations of Bebe being brilliant - another fairly minor character who was just perfectly done.
I had NO IDEA about the sleb call-ins!
Love Frasier, especially the earlier episodes. When I catch one on cable I always think the more hair he has, the funnier it tends to be.
Favourite line is Frasier to Niles when Niles is smugging about all the free concert tickets etc he's getting because of his newspaper pieces.
N: 'And all because I have a small column'
F: 'That would certainly be the Freudian interpretation'
