waterloo road help with plot

haven't watched it for a couple of weeks.
can anyone tell me about the girl who said she was driving the car. got confused as last night she said she wasn't and the boy was.

We found out through flasback what actually happened - he was driving the car but she had climbed on top of him (ahem) and blocked his view which causaed the crash. She felt guilty so he asked her to also claim she was driving so that the police wouldn't have a case as they were both admitting to the crime. Police said they didn't believe her and boy's solicitor said would make things worse. She went to see him in prison with his dad to say it was no good. Boy got really upset and finally told his dad what really happened and shouted it was all her fault. She left in tears and told her sister that he was now trying to blame her by claiming she distracted him and caused the crash. (which she did). So basically he is going to be on trial and she is denying what really happened. Does this make sense ? - sorry if not!
