The film or the new series?
I love them both. This is England 86' was great, esp the 2 lads puzzled about who would sit in the mini wicker chair grin

I was a little bit disappointed tbh, when it finished i felt as though not enough had happened?

I wished they had shown the 1st two episodes back to back.

I had never seen any of his stuff before - tbh didn't think it would be my cup of tea but i stayed up and watched this last night and loved it.Wicker chair - hilarious.
Would i like the film then - i always thought it would be too sweary and violent - i have got this wrong haven't i ??
I would have liked there to have been more music though.

loved this

and agree it will go much much darker, one thing i love about shane meadows films is the way they turn on a sixpence, from comedy to full on wtf ish ness, like in a room for romeo brass when they go to the seaside and it's all fun and laughs, paddy considine doing funny dancing etc then bam, he's being all scary rage man. or dead man's shoes where all the baddies are tripping and, oops, knock knock, paddy's at the door and he's in the mood for killing.

i like it because it genuinely seems to come out of nowhere, so it's really realistic.

on a shallow note i loved lol's wedding outfit.

all the skinheads i knew in the 70s/80s were horrible thought not gentle friendly types like this lot - are none on drugs? grin

Shane Meadows is excellent sharbie, check out 'a room for romeo brass' The film is a lot darker, but definitely worth watching.

The film is very raw but excellently acted,it's worth seeing.

Dh and I laughed at the wicker chair.

I'm quite in awe of Lol's looks, she's stunning and I love Woody blush

sharbie Wed 08-Sep-10 23:49:48

cool thanks proley and kat - i love finding out about someone new

StayFrosty Wed 08-Sep-10 23:53:06

i love paddy considine too. smile

i'm loving seeing sheffield on film (ig up sheffield). personally i think it's a very photogenic place in its own way. and am loving playing the 'oh look that's such and such a building' game. eg i once had a training day in the building where lol and woody's wedding was. the stairwell where they were arguing is near where i go to have blood tests done. etc. thrilling stuff, i'm sure you agree grin

LastOrdersAgain Wed 08-Sep-10 23:56:27

Lol is incredible looking! Think its going to get much deeper and darker. Wondering what's going to happen between Lol and Milky. He obviously <3s her <aww> I thought Milky died in the film...?

I stopped watching when one of the blokes took "cupcakes" to the wedding. Get your period details right. People weren't eating cupcakes in 1986.

no no no, I'm sure i remember cupcakes in the 80s.

prolesworth i was confused because i'm sure the film was set in nottingham, but that was deffo sheffield last night. warp films is based in sheffield. my friend works in the same building (not for them though, for another company on another floor) and he says they have paddy considine's dead man's shoes gas mask outfit outside their office.

sharbie Thu 09-Sep-10 08:11:50

well the bus def had yorkshire on the side

dittany Thu 09-Sep-10 08:33:04

Yeah, I think he'd have said "orange cupcakes" or something or just "cakes". Self conscious cupcake consumption is a noughties phenomenon.

PuppyMonkey Thu 09-Sep-10 08:37:13

Think it's s'posed to be set "in a northen town" but most of the young actors are from east midlands, mostly notts. I was disappointed with first ep of this too, very slow. Suffered from a lack of Stephen Graham - hope he turns up in future episodes.

It was absolutely shite. As I expected it to be.

It had none of the freshness and realism of the film. It was incongruously schmaltzy and at times painfully derivative and contrived.

There were glaring holes in the supposed 80's setting.

The high budget Skins-esque production quality and camera work was completely at odds with the supposedly 'gritty' subject matter.

And nothing frigging happened.

I'm still a big fan of the original film and all Shane Meadows' other features but he has gone down significantly in my estimation for producing such a shallow and soulless piece of TV for the E4 generation.

usualsuspect Thu 09-Sep-10 08:53:37

It seemed to be more about the production and camera angles than the content ..it was so slow I gave up on it half way through

kittya Thu 09-Sep-10 09:27:59

I agree, I only gave it 30 minutes. I just felt like it had all been done before.
