Is this normal in puberty?

My 10 year old daughter has started to complain that one of her nipples is hard and uncomfortable. Her breasts have not developed yet, but it feels like a hard lump under the nipple, the otherside is fine. Could this just be the start of puberty or should I take her to the doctors to have it checked out?

totally normal.

all my three girls have now been thro this.

and one of my friends has a son that also had the same prob....tis just the very start of puberty and quite normal.

friends son was ok BTW, he did not go on to develop breasts at all.....it is as normal in boys to also have hard nipples as in girls, tis just that girls do go on and develop breasts.

Thanks for your answer. Thought it probably was normal, but she has been very weepy thinking something is wrong with her. The start of the hormones and mood swings .......

my DD1 was the same. scared silly thinking she was seriously ill!

another warning about breast development....she may find that one side grows quicker than the other for a while. each of mine has has that.....and one side may have the 'lump' for about 3mths before the other side goes lumpy. all normal, all ok.

oh, and she will be tender. DD1 was especially tender.....could not wear certain clothes for a time as the way the fabric brushed her skin was intolerable. I found that very tight vests helped then......some support and also a kind of barrier between lose fabric too.

I have been giving my DD (12) Evening primrose oil capsules since she was 9 for the sore boob thing and for her weepiness/ moodswings.
Nice that she spoke to you about it, alot of girls don't talk to mum.

Oooh, I remember that happening to me!

My "best friend" had told me that if I swallowed chewing gum it'd stick to my chest and kill me. Unfortunately, she passed on this helpful advice too late, for I had already swallowed the dread substance.

You can imagine what I thought.
