Work experience in Y10 - did anyone's DC work with vulnerable people?

DD has come home with a letter about work experience. She's in Y10.

Her current career plans are that she wants to go into care work / social work, and spend a few years working abroad for a relief agency or similar. She'd like to work in a refuge, or work with young adults. That's about as specific as she gets at the moment.

Have your DC done anything similar eg frontline social work? Not just data entry and photocopying in the back office? She's happy to ring round to ask, but she'd be a lot happier if I just sorted it for her! I'm not sure it's going to be possible.

Hi, my DD worked in a local authority centre for the elderly with dementia. She found it really useful and had a great time. She also wants to go into social work.

I went to a local old people's care home.

I worked in a school for children with disabilities. She would be unlikely to get a placement within front line social work but possibly somewhe like a children's centre, a chur h with lots of outreach groups eg salvation army may be good

OK great. Thanks. I think the school would probably accept that.

Her current suggestion is to go to volunteer at a refugee camp in Greece or Turkey. She says she'll pay the air fare from her Christmas / birthday money.

I suspect the council's health and safety person might have a bit of a struggle with that one!

She sounds really passionate! Are there any charities who are supporting the migrants that she could work with here?
