I understand he's almost an adult so he's probably wanting independence however he never shares anything with me or DH ,he won't tell us about his friends, what music he likes and he barely goes out and stays in his room a lot on his computer.

Am I over reacting or is this weird? He's doing well at school with just recieving 2 Bs and an 2 As in his AS levels.

Sounds normal yummy. Dd tells me nothing as well but difference is she's out all the time. Ds was much the same as well, on his computer all the time in his room.
Well done to him on his exam results Smile

Very normal. My 18 year DS is only just (ish) beginning to tell me what he bought himself for lunch/went with his mates/listens to for music. The last two years were a closed book to me but it is nice to find he has been doing quite interesting and productive things in the gloom of his bedroom. I think he had to disappear off for a while to find out who was and what he liked...he is still doing it, but is just about beginning to share some of his passions and interests. I had no idea and am loving finding out about this young man that has appeared out of the silence. Try not to worry about your son. He is just in the cocoon prior to emerging as a young man :-) x

Is there anything you can do together, like watch box sets (his choice) or something like that?

My DS will be 17 in December and he's exactly the same. And then occasionally he will be really chatty and tell me stuff.

Totally normal

That sounds very normal - lots of teens (especially boys) spend a lot of time in their rooms and grunt and scowlWink

Remember they are trying to "break away" from their parents and become adults - it's not personal if they don't want to tell you about their lives.

Only time was ds told me stuff was in the car. So l engineered opportunities to drive them places so we could have a little chat. Be warned! They are now early 20s and keep me up late chatting and give me TMI at times. Keep checking in with him. Tell him your news even if he doesn't seem interested. Follow all those teams, fights, etc so you are up to date with latest stuff. He's fine.
