Would you pay for a phone contract for a 17 year old?

DS is after a new phone as his (which he bought himself ages ago) has broken. He gets £10 a week pocket money off me and works Saturday's for about £25.
Would it be unreasonable to offer to set up a contract in place of his £10 a week pocket money?

What does everyone else do regarding teens and phones?

My daughter bought her own iPhone when she was 16. She had been saving for ages. I Have the contract because she is under 18 .
I agreed to pay half the contract for 6 months and then she would pay the full monthly amount herself. I set up a direct debit from her bank account to lay for the full amount and I reimbursed her the balance from my own account.
This has worked well.

Depends how much the contract is, whether ds was in education or working.

Most people I know give their kids contact phones. I would only do so with insurance.

My own DC have PAYG handed down iPhones. If they get lost it's not a big deal.

Ps forgot to say my DD,'s contract is £25.99 per month. She found this deal by searching online herself.
She has a lucrative Saturday job and can easily afford to pay for it.
As soon as she is 18 the contract will be in her name and she will take full responsibility for it.

My dd is nearly 18 and I've been paying her phone contract for four years. I will probably continue to pay it while she goes through uni as well.

She's just finished A levels and although she has a part time job, has not been working for several weeks because of the extra study periods. She will start work again next week and will work until Uni starts next February. I am happy to pay for her phone as long as she doesn't abuse it by going over the data limit (which she never has). Her course will not allow her to work more than 8 hours a week and it's 10 weeks study and then 10 weeks placement in hospitals so she's really going to struggle to find work to fit in around that. Every penny she has will go on her accomodation and I fully expect to be sending money for food as well as paying her phone.

We have 5 kids between us ranging from 16 to 22. We pay all their contracts but I really do feel
that when they start working full time they should be responsible.
