Wait til the Jan sales at least!!

Report
lulumama · 03/12/2006 18:15

wait for the sales!!! definitely,, what you buy now, might well be massively reduced next month.

i bought a couple of token things, like plain socks or bibs after 12 weeks, then found out the sex at 20 weeks and then bought according to gender.......!!

i did exactly the same as lulu, but bought loads of tiny baby things and ds was 9lb2 so get newborn, and babygro's from next, they've got scratch mits built in. and def get stuff in jan sales.

lulumama · 03/12/2006 18:22

yep...definitely buy 0-3 .....DD was 7 lb 8 and the newborn bits we bought only got a few weeks wear.....and people like to buy gifts..so don;t buy so much that people have nothing left to buy for you!! IFYSWIM....what are you doing re pram, car seat , cot etc...those are the pricey items?

lulumama · 03/12/2006 18:24

matalan and poundstretcher ( called instore, i think!) are great for basics, like vests, bibs, babygros, socks, hats & blankets......i bought DD loads of vests from poundstretcher..the quality is actually really good..she wore them, then passed them to a friend, who passed them on to someone else..when i got them back , they were still going strong, despite having been worn by 3 babies and been washed 100s of times!

CONGRATULATIONS! i was watching your other thread and i'm delighted you've kept the baby

definitely wait for the sales, you'll get up to 60-70% off stuff and if you gets everything too soon it'll make the last months really drag!

and don't buy teddies. ds has got so many that people bought for him that he's filled 3 ikea hanging baskets. the ikea singlar range is vv good value and get a travel system if you can

o god, definitely don't buy toys, they won't play with anything til their a few months an you'll enjoy going out with them to buy stuff!

agree with lulu, don't buy newborn size, my ds was 8lbs10 and didn't fit newborn after a week! 0-3 monthstuff is best

look at the nct website and find where the nearest 'nearly new sale' is near you. so much can be got there for so little. esp. recommended for one off like cots or baby baths.

PinkTinsel · 03/12/2006 18:37

well if the cot and buggy are sorted then those really are the most important things. get a bouncer as well as their invaluable for sitting baby in while you shower, cook etc. i didn't have one for dd and she ended up sitti ng in her careat while i did that stuff

stock up on tonnes of basics like babygros and sleepsuits as you won't believe how many you'll go through in a day, or how little you'll feel like washing!

is dp excited too?

well i have one of each and their both fab so it's win win whether you get boy or girl!

lol, at your dp talking to your belly, mine used to do that, he'd hug and kiss it too, even in front of his mates!

have you started skulking around mothercare yet? i used to wander around in there even when i had no money as it's sonice to plan and imagine all the lovely stuff you'll get baby. make sure you get a pair of maternity jeans or trousers before you technically need them as it sorta happens overnight. one day you can close your pants.... the next you're slinking into mothercare with a safety pin in your pants

go check out the ante natal boards too, mine was a great support when i was having ds and i still use the postnatal one as they're such fabulous woman!

Hey lucy, turned 15 weeks yesterday - not far behind you girl!!!
Know what you mean, it's all too tempting to start buying things, have restrained myself so far! Not feeling all that pregnant anymore as all my early signs, sickness, sore boobs etc have gone. Though i'm not complaining! My tierdness is still about though. My weak spot so far has been baby names, am convinced i have mine picked out already!
Are you gonna find out the sex of the baby at your 5 month scan? Think i will, was dissapointed cause didn't get a 12 week one! Still don't fully understand why even though midwife explained!
Do you feel like it's all going quickly? I bloody do, feels like yesterday i had my 6 week scan! Now i'm nearly 4 months - what's going on?!

my 2 are 22 months and 4 months, and i'm 22

lol, i had both mines names picked my 3/4 months too. i just knew i was having a girl the first time and was certain it was a boy second time, didn't find out for sure in the scanxs but were calling them by their names from about 5 months pregnant

I didnt get a 12 week scan either, a si had to have a scan at 7 weeks due to a bleed! Im waiting to buy things untill after my 20 week scan, specially as their will be january sales as well.

I didnt have any sickness, sore boobs or anything, so i guess ive been lucky. All i have is tiredness.

One thing i am feeling though is, if i sit on the floor i find it hard to get up on my own, like the babys really low. Strange sensation.

Glad everything going well!!! One tip - dont buy outfits, juts long sleeved, short sleeved body suits, sleepsuits and comfy tracksuit-like trousers. Its all DS wore for the first month or so! We had so many outfits that never got worn...
