DD is 15 and in year 11 at school. She has often had friendship issues when a friend who is close to her suddenly cuts all contact for no inexplicable reason. She also suffers from social anxiety and has just had her first CBT session.

She has lunch with a group of girls who often talk about stuff they do together and they never include her (according to DD she gets left out)

I realise that DD does not socialise very well in groups and comes across as unfriendly and withdrawn because she doesn't join in. I get the impression that she doesn't even try to fit in and she may give the impression that she doesn't even like these girls.

I also think that she is too self absorbed and lacks empathy. She doesn't suffer fools gladly either.

She doesn't "play the Facebook game", by that I mean she never "likes" anyone's posts or wishes anyone happy birthday, then she wonders why she gets ignored when she posts anything. On her birthday only two people wished her happy birthday on Facebook, and one of them was me.

How do I get her to put other people first occasionally and be more of a "you" person than a "me" person?
