Hi all,

My dd1 has just approached me asking if she is allowed to watch shows like Family Guy and American Dad and The Cleveland show, I know that they are rude they are equivalent to a UK rating of 15 she is however fourteen and a half, some of my friends say it is a bit rude at times, I have never watched it neither has my DH. I personally think she is mature but I want to think it over, she does have half a year left until legally she can watch them without my permission. So I was wondering if I can gather advice and info from follow mums with teenagers, I do let her watch stuff like F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, The Simpsons and The Office US (We watch it together), and if any of you know of any good netflix (US) TV series/movies that your daughters or sons recommend that would be appreciated, I just don't want her exposed to REALLY rude stuff because F.R.I.E.N.D.S and other programmes she watches do have the odd sexual joke or swear but she doesn't really swear, and if she did she'd be in a lot of trouble. Whilst I am on the topic does anyone know any good Netflix kids shows for 6-8 years olds for my younger children (they are allowed one-two episodes a night of a series), I remember when my dd1 was a child she enjoyed Recess- an amazing series but they do not air it any more?

Anyhoo, thank you for all of the help (in advance)

Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory are great for mid-teens

Phineas and Ferb for the younger kids

I will look into the show, she is starting to watch futurama and is keen on it (it does not appear to be REALLY rude). I just want to make sure that she watched age appropriate shows I don't want to be a 'bore' or a 'nag'.

I think if shes watching things like pll and gossip girl (death/sex/drugs etc) then shes probably quite mature anyway? Gossip girl is a 15 and has lots of sex.
If shes fine to watch that with 'real' people then i would say she is ok to watch it in cartoon form. Most of family guy is over exaggerated and i cant see it causing much harm.

Thank you, I will now let her watch it I might allow her to watch 15's now but I refuse to let her watch 18's. And I was told Gossip Girl was a UK 12 so I figured it was okay Shock, and the advice I got was that it was inappropriate at times, I will look into Gossip Girl but PLL seems more mystery than rude. Thank you for all of your help :) :D.

Are you serious?

The problem with PLL and GG isn't that they are 'rude'. The problem is that the characters are vapid, backstabbing, ridiculous caricatures of rich and very thin teenage girls who have no respect for themselves or for anyone else and whose lives proceed without reference to any notion of equality for women or concern for anyone but themselves.

Gossip Girl and PLL promote luxury brand lifestyles and the women are portrayed as commodities within that lifestyle and above all as consumers. They are luxury brand porn.

And the death, sex, drugs, etc..

Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees.

What exactly do you mean by 'rude'?
