I am totally out of ideas….for a birthday present for my son's 17th birthday….he will be getting driving lessons from his dad (my exh)…I would like to buy him something for around £40-£60. Not an 'experience' or dinner or theatre as we have a few nice things planned for the summer holidays so I would like to get him something but am all out of ideas…he likes football (watching, not playing), is very studious, likes reading but has a pile of books he wants to read, and is interested in current affairs…..thank you so much for any suggestions!

Well, at 17, my ds would have liked more driving lessons, or his license paid for, or his test paid for....... (do you see a theme here? Wink)

Clothes, shoes, dvd box sets, x box games, magazine subscription, lego, chocolate. These are the sort of things which regularly crop up on my ds's present wish lists.

thank you - his dad is paying for his driving lessons, licence…etc etc etc…I'm thinking about a magazine subscription - he used to have one, but I think he didn't read it so that's why he stopped it. He actually doesn't ever 'want' anything - he's not one of these kids with a long list, he's happy with what he has and never asks for more, but I would like to spoil him, especially as he has worked so, so hard for his GCSEs.

If he isn't particularly materialistic how about a card with cash in or opening a savings account for him?

Is there any point in getting a magazine subscription if he didn't read the last one? TBH I don't think teens really read magazines, it's all online social media, innit!

He sounds lovely - great that he has worked hard for his GCSEs. Would he like a nice hoodie or trainers (always popular here!) ?

i thought about getting him a voucher for somewhere, or even for somewhere like yo sushi, then he can go with a friend….he gets a modest allowance that he mostly saves….i wish he wanted a hoodie….he says he doesn't need many clothes and so I am forever washing what he does have!!! lol

He really is a lovely, sweet boy, (obviously I am not biased at all!!), and really not materialistic (although he loves his iphone!), and that's why I would just like to spoil him with something….thanks for the suggestions…please keep them coming! x

Is he planning to go to college for a levels? Or uni any time soon?

A digital radio would be a great gift, if he's often tucked away studying.

A nice smart leather wallet or manbag?

Or an e-reader? Kindle or similar?

Two vouchers for your local go carting so he can take a friend.
Gig tickets.
Two Cinema and nandos vouchers.
Give him a night in with mates. Say he can have x amount of friends round and buy them pizza and beer or let them cook a BBQ. Music on good night with mates.

Tickets to his favourite team's game, maybe a stadium tour too if they do them. Or to watch England at Wembley.
