my 12 yr old ds becomes hysterical about various things ,spiders and hearts ,although he did grow out of the word stab . I feel like its all my fault and want him to be happy and well balanced . Does anyone one know if it is expensive to get a child councellor ,i think that he would benifit from talking through things with someone not in our family . I know it probably sounds petty in comparison to other peoples problems but he has no self confidence at all and i want to help him .

Councelling is free on the NHS, or, about £40-£70ph private (not sure if a child councellor specifically is more or less expensive). If you pop to your GP, he should be able to point you in the right direction.

Where we are there is a charity connected with the career service and young people's health services which offers counselling to young people. Here it is called AITCH and you can access it directly by e-mail, or the senior school should be able to give you this info. if there is something similar in your area. Is your child at junior school or seniors? I think it would be worth talking to your gp anyway as it may be some other problem where counselling wouldn't help perhaps.
