My first job post uni was as a holiday rep in Magaluf (obviously some years ago now!) it's a work hard/play hard job, but definitely one of the best experiences of my life & came home with the best tan I've ever had even though we only had one day off per week!

Dd 17 off to 'Maga' this summer I'm already getting worked up. Visions of her falling out of clubs 8am then sleeping/frying in the sun

Make sure she has a LEGIBLE copy of her travel insurance and enough money to pay the excess. Then wave her off with a tear in your eye and a cork up your bum.

she's repping so she needs to check that the company is properly insuring her, normal insurance won't apply. BUT I guess that in this game they are all freelancers. So she takes an EHIC and speaks nicely to World Nomads.

swilling and frying are exactly what they do. She'll come home with less or no money. She also needs to stay relatively sober when working so she'll see how disgusting it all is.

if she's up for all that - best of British. For a place that shows the worst of British..

Not a lot you can do if they are an adult. Its a bit of a right of passage, first holiday with friends. I trust my DDs to make good choices, or at least make bad ones safely.

remember this is not going to be a holiday!

there do seem to be agencies dealing with it, and making some attempts to look after the workers. There'll be others just taking money off them. Might be worth some research.

sad story of the one that came home in a body bag after balcony jumping. No travel insurance so cost her parents £5k for that. Unimaginable.

Have you holiday repped yourself? I have - it practically is a holiday!

I repped in Magaluf too. It was an amazing experience- really set me up for life tbh.
(plus I met DP there....)

I have done something similar although even when I was a kid this kind of place was not for me. My job was the best thing I ever did, but those who signed up expecting a holiday didn't last long. When you are essential in making sure that an expensive and non-repeatable holiday happens, you get off your backside or you get deservedly fired. Believe me, the adults who are paying quickly spot the lazy staff and don't hesitate to complain. (as they shouldn't!)

But this is different. Selling drinks, tickets and drugs to kids in a place like Magaluf won't be much of a service challenge, nor does it have discerning customers, nor is any quality needed. Those who don't work hard enough won't sell enough and will run out of money. No-one's holiday will be affected.

Is she actually going to be working for one of the Big Four holiday companies? I did and was well looked after (accom/wages paid into UK bank account/food at my hotel)

Okay, so taking a trip to magaluf in the summer my daughter and her friend are turning 16 my concerns are as they will be having a different room from me and my youngest daughter, the concerns are they might go out at night as I've heard her conversations on the phone, can they buy alcohol in corner shops or near by supermarkets or get access to pubs/night clubs without getting asked for ID?

no-one in Magaluf will give a damn about selling booze (or drugs) to the under age, especially as they probably look a lot older.

good luck with that one...

Lol I'm sure they come up with these ideas to see which one will finish us off! - now if he says he's off on holiday there you'll be relieved !
